Race's Returns - The Mechanics | Started by: JackMezzo on Nov 11, '20 14:25 |
You do not have to read everything below to take part. The bare minimum you need to know is in Section 6 and Section 3 for Horse Ownership The continued transparency of this feature is important to me, as such, I've updated the core functionality brief below, omitting only the specifics on how the multipliers affect outcome. I've also removed references to the previous tournament and included details of the updated functionality. Please advise if you have any questions. The most significant change can be found in reference to the Home City Advantage, following feedback from users. Horse Racing Public Information
Horses are generated by random number generators, which decide the following stats:
These stats do not change, with the exception of Race History. The multiplier that uses this stat will only consider the previous 10 race positions at the time of a race. This means a horse which is performing poorly, or excelling, will change their overall performance score over time.
Tracks are generated manually by the individual running the event. For this event the six cities were given a surface type and then a distance. During testing, the distances have been shuffled around to provide a mix up of conditions. They are now set to:
Weather conditions are considered on the day of the race, with the host checking local forecasts to determine the best match of the three conditions type. Conditions
Horses may be bought and sold by users. The horses which are available can be seen on The Stables spreadsheet.
Determining Racers Racers are determined by random grouping via an online tournament picker. They will race in groups of 9 at a time.
Determining the Winner The winner of a race is determined by several factors. All rolls are recorded and carried out in advance of any betting, which ensures there are no adjustments made to favor a particular punter.
For example, a high performing horse might have a similar or greater chance of winning a race which a horse that matches all four preferences does. A typical race will unfold as follows:
Example: Horse 1 is the favorite to win and assigned numbers 1 through to 50. Horse 2 is assigned numbers 51 through to 60 Horse 3 is assigned numbers 61 through to 80 Horse 4 is assigned numbers 81 through to 90 The favorite is likely the winner, but the element of chance is still present.
Modifiers Once the core results have been determined, modifiers then come into play. Two 6 sided dice are rolled for each horse, with possible results being:
Modifiers are rolled in the order of Last Place to First Place according to the Core Results Home City Advantage On the day of the race, a post will be made in the appropriate Business District thread that represents the track the horse is racing at. Any further posts made by residents of that city will increase the number of places a successful Home City roll provides, if the roll is successful.
This means that Home City advantage may change the results written up when the race is first run, however as there is public evidence of this, it is not considered an issue. The host will adjust placing as appropriate on the day of the race.
Delivering the Results Results are delivered in two ways.
Users will need to read the text to understand who the winner was. Users may wish to scrutinize the descriptive writing to understand if their horse was Injured or Determined for the next race, as per the modifiers
Each of the six cities will have a business district thread created to host the various races. These may be owned by a significant figure in that city, or the host themselves. Results of races in that city will be posted there, and the opportunity for users to RP their experiences at the races is also available.
To take part in an event, users will need to:
Once results have been made public, the host will calculate winnings and pay out any funds due to punters and horse owners. Race history is updated after every horse has raced, and we repeat. |
