Daily News Interviews: Mako Edition. Started by: Kal-El on May 30, '14 07:56

So, this is the first edition of the Daily News' weekly interviews. I'll be doing different players every week. From GFs, CLs, Hands, to Goombas, Thugs, and if I'm lucky I'll try to bring a few MR legends back from the dead. If I'm lucky. I hope you enjoy it and if you have any suggestions then feel free to message me. I'll start reaching out to more people, and as time goes on, I'll have other players interview other people.

All my questions and stuff are in Orange and Mako's will be in Blue if it isn't obvious.

Another day, another HQ visit, another interview. This time it was someone admired by all of the world. Before Kal-El even joined this thing of ours he knew about the man he was going to see today. Weird isn't it? His first encounter with this man was coming to him for advice. Usually when you mail a GF, they often give you that 'fuck off aura'. But not this guy. He welcomed everyone with open arms. Open arms and triangles. And you know what they say about triangles? Dammit, bitches love triangles.

When he arrived in The Loop, he made sure to call Cassi to make sure things were fine. He got the green light, so Kal-El flew his way to the Illuminati HQs. He was amazed at what was seen. A HQ built of 100 dollar bills. When no one was looking he took handfuls of them and shoved it in his socks.

"You know, you were supposed to be our first interview, but Cassi told me about the little incident you had. *cough* No trousers passed out on OJ's lawn *cough*. No worries though. Thanks for blessing me and allowing me to still interview you.

So tell me, how is MoneyMako doing today?"

Mako gave a small grin as he takes a seat across from Kal-El. He held up a finger to signal that he needed a smoke before he responded, and you could see the relief in his face as smoke filled the air.

"That whole night was a misunderstanding. I thought a fun night out in Queens, New York was a good idea. Sometime during that night I got lost. Where? I don't know where or else I wouldn't have been fucking lost, would I???"

Mako calmed down and lowered his head. After taking another puff, he continued on with the story.

"Too much liquor, that's the conclusion I've came to. Told Cassi to hold my calls and next thing you know, I'm laying naked in front of OrangeJuice's front yard. They say I was singing to his window right before I passed out cold. I don't remember any of that, but I do remember waking up with a red rose in my hand, and no pants."

He narrows his eyes at Kal-El.

"But he made me breakfast when I woke up, so all is well."

"And you ate it? OJ's cooking is horrible beyond measures. Trust me, I know from experience. If you want to eat something good though, you should visit Haven. She has the best Chicken Alfredo. It comes with Rigatoni if you want, and the sauce is...."

Before he finished his sentence he realized what he came here for.

"Sorry for that. I babble a lot. So lets move on.

As everyone knows, this is a family business, and I'm sure you've read the ancestor journals that everyone seems to leave behind. So tell me, who started it all and who trained that ancestor of yours? Did they leave behind the crew name? You know, give us a little bit of background for the ones before you who helped shape the Money Man."

Mako's mouth tightened at the mention of OJ's cooking and his ancestors. He closed his eyes for a moment to take in the atmosphere as his mind raced through it's own memories of what all took place in his father's journals.

"Technically, everyone. I guess everyone has helped form the aspect of myself, as I like to watch... The Illuminati is always watching. And with watching, comes learning. It would take me hours to mention all of the names that I've seen in my father's journal. So, lets go with who of those people made the biggest impact on him."

He reaches over on the table and picked up a glass, followed by the liquor bottle. He looks up to Kal-El, feeling a little rude.

"You want a drink, pal?"

Without waiting for an answer back, Mako was leaning back in his chair and taking a swig of the vodka he poured. He sloshed it around in the cup some before telling his story.

"There's been many before me, and for that, I'm thankful. If it weren't for the stories that my grandmother told me growing up, I'm sure I'd live to make the same mistakes before. However, I was taught more than just how to handle myself around other people. I was taught something that can't be taught to most people... Loyalty. Loyalty to who? Well, that's for each their own. I know my paths and I cement them in stone, because I repay loyalty with the same.

Godmother Innocence of Los Angeles was a huge role-model to my father, God bless her. She was viewed by some as what would be claimed as... 'cut throat'. But to me, it was love. Love to where her loyalties lay. She taught my father to not put up with bullshit and to put either his foot or gun down whenever he was threatened in ways that made him uncomfortable. Cory Chase was always known for running a tight ship when he was Godmother Innocence's underboss. Many of those around at that time will tell you the same. He expected perfection, and punished those who didn't meet his requirements. All in all, he had one of the most strongest families and loyal fuckers that my bloodline has ever read about. This was back when you had enough room for 50 people in your headquarters. Can you imagine what 50 gems look like? That was the Chase Committee and inspired by the Godmother of the city. She took in a kid from a bloodline that made a questionable decision before becoming her underboss. She loved him and he loved her, dedicated his life to fighting for the city and whatever his Godmother needed. One of the greatest cities that has been written about, but it ended. In a blaze of fire.

It's always my favorite story to read about, because it goes much deeper than what people see from the outside shell. The city was unified and they looked out for each other. It was an art of beauty.

I wouldn't be anything if my father hadn't been taught by someone from the bloodline of jynx. My grandfather needed some fine touches put to his mechanics. Jynx made sure that happened. She taught him how to pickpocket, shoot his gun, and how to behave. All in all, their friendship became almost untouchable. She was the first person I read about that took any of my kin under their wing, and she wasn't even from the same city as my grandfather. She thought he intelligent and a quick learner, so she taught him everything she knew. Holy shit, he learned fast. All thanks to jynx. Without her to read about, who knows what I would be today. My grandfather surely wouldn't have gotten chances out of gate like that without her, and she knows how much it was appreciated. In fact, that friendship still carries onto our kin today."

Mako waves to the voice recorder.

"Hiiiiii Sophia."

He takes another drink from his glass, and continues on.

"Then there was Zero McHannon. A man that not many people would've taken a chance on, but Godfather SpaceCowboy did. He looked past the rumors and tales to see the man that was underneath the skin of my father. Others told him to kill Zero, but he put his foot down and never let that happen. An interesting story that one is, but it's what I hope defined my kin that day. A war broke out, Chicago versus New York and Philly. Godfather SpaceCowboy wanted to help those who raised him within Philly, and Zero McHannon wanted to help Chicago take down those that he considered his enemy at the time. Zero had friends from Chicago and he wanted to join their side on the war effort, but his loyalties were with Godfather SpaceCowboy of Detroit. Sticky situation, no? Not so much. The decision was already made for Zero.

Detroit assembled their squad and fired back at Chicago with a wave of their own, which was surprising to most. They showed their power when people thought they didn't have that much. Zero swallowed pride and let loyalty lead him behind SpaceCowboy in that war, fightingalongside of his Godfather. It was a well fought war, and Chicago became the victor and rightfully so. At the end of the day, Zero wanted to die with SpaceCowboy or live with him. If he wanted to fight for Chicago, he would've been with them and not Detroit. His decisions were already made, and he knew it. A tough pill for him to swallow, but Godfather SpaceCowboy backed Zero and protected him through all the bullshit. Zero would've never been able to live with himself if he turned his back on his Godfather in his moment of need."

Mako caught himself looking at the floor as he took another cigarette out of the package.

"I would say those people had the biggest impact on my fathers growing up throughout the time period that my kin has been here. Great people to learn from, even better that I can call those people my friends today. Just comes to show you that you might be on opposite sides, but that's just the nature of how things go sometimes. I'm honored to say that my kin has grown with those individuals and they've helped form my bloodline. Without them, it just wouldn't seem worth it all."

"I don't like to drink. I prefer bloody red eyes ;)

It must have been hard to bring those skeletons out of the closet, but when you do things like that it definitely makes for a more interesting read. Enough of the past though. Why don't we speed things up to the future? Tell me about the history of YOU, of the MakoFather. Where did you start and who gave you your opportunity?"

Mako smiles and waves his hand lazily in the air.

"Sorry about that, I tend to get carried away. What some people might see as skeletons, I see for fortune."

He lights another cigarette that he already had pulled out of his package and put his hand on his chin.

"Lord Toaly, one of the best. It still hurts that he retired and returned to the old country, but he is still in my heart. He is one of the main reasons for the empire that you see today. He built the great city of New York and then left us to represent him the best we could. It's hard, but we try. I try. We thought that could've only been possible if Godfather Numbers4Glory was taken out of the equation. That, or suffer the fate that the empire Lord Toaly built could have came to a end by those who wanted to leave it for their own selfishness. The city of New York was built to be unified under Lord Toaly, and now that has bled into Chicago. Hate us or love us, we are what we are.
Godfather Goku brought me back to come help him. At the time, I was hesitant, thinking about staying over in Italy and spend some time with old friends and family. However, Goku was in need of me, someone he could trust to look out for him like every great Godfather needs. Not long after, I was noticed by others and that's why I have this 303303 tattoo. They brought me in with open arms and made me feel as if I've been one of them all these years. It's a family that easily embraced me and were quick to call me one of their own. Then they did whatever they could to see me excel. First giving me my own family, my own district, and supporting my way to Godfather. I don't think there's any questions about where my loyalties lay.

Cantillon, JohnnyNoname, Tagean, Amethyst, DanTheMan, Jeddy, Desmand, Solid.... The list goes on. Along with a great family that supports me and my decisions.

It would feel wrong to leave any of those people out who gave e the opportunity to be here, and they know I'm here for them. I've grown up with these guys, watched them as kids, and tell stories about all the stupid shit we used to do as children. And to be honest, no much has changed now that we're grown ups. But like I said, they took me in and treated me like one of their own from the get-go. Not an easy task at all.

It's not a club, it's a lifestyle..."

"And if it isn't a lifestyle, its a religion.

What keeps you going in this thing of ours? What keeps you coming back for more? Do you have personal goals? Friends you can't leave? Why can't your bloodline hang the old ways up yet?"

Mako shifts in his seat, still smoking on the cigarette. He crosses his arms and gives off a small laugh.

"I guess those are a few ways of looking at it. The gift that keeps on giving. Like I said before, I did plan on staying home in Italy for a while, until Godfather Goku voiced that he needed me.

I won't deny that my kin and myself have a various amount of friends that I would miss. Breaks away from this country are needed sometimes, and it's always nice to travel back and talk to those that knew my father. I could always real out to those people, so I wouldn't consider it something that keeps my kin traveling back to America. There's always been some goals of mine that were hard to obtain, but now I think I've reached the main one, doing what my ancestors couldn't do... Run a legit district as a Godfather.

But with that comes new goals, ones that I didn't see before. Now that one thing has become possible, it opens the doors for much moreand beyond.

However, the Illuminati reached out to me as well, said they needed me as well. And well, you can't really turn down the Illuminati. When they say you're going to do something, you're going to fucking do it. Did I ever think I'd be the leader of the Illuminati? No, not in the slightest. It's hard knowing the truth and everything I get to see, even harder knowing that the Illuminati runs its own path.

Always watching.... Always."

He leans back in the chair again and takes a deep drink, leaving it at that.

"Dammit. I must not be doing something right because the 1% has yet to contact me.

What players do you have the utmost respect for and tell me why with each name? Please don't give us a billion names. Give us about 2 or 3 if you can. Even if its only one that really sticks out."

Mako gives a small shrug and twirls the vodka around in the glass.

"I respect mostly everyone. I respect people until they lose it. So I'm not going to name anyone in particular, because it's not like that all. Anyone who has approached me can talk to me. I think I'm pretty easy to get along with, even if I have conflicting beliefs with people. But to answer your question the best way I can, everyone has my respect. Just because I'm a Godfather doesn't mean I should stop what I'm doing.

I think it would be an easier question to ask who I don't respect, but we won't be getting into that today."

"And we don't want to start any drama! Or do we?"

Kal-El chuckles.

This is the part of the interview where I like to do a little OOC talk. What can you tell us about the man named Mako, as a character? You don't have to get too personal, but just tell the readers a little something about Mako the character.

Sure thing, not a problem.

Mako actually has a story behind what everyone sees on the streets and through reacting with him. He's a weird one too, having affiliated himself with the Illuminati and the mafia at the same time. It brings an interesting dynamic that I DO love to use in my role plays and base the character around altogether. Personally, I think every character should have an interesting RP direction, and that's what I've done with Mako. He's a alcoholic, drug addict, and a sex addict. He's everything bad in character, but he's smart and can form what he wants to say well. It's pretty much safe to say he is use to the alcohol and drug use, so it doesn't effect like it once did.

The Illuminati bit is something I do plan on taking further as time progresses and the character lives. What story do I want to tell with Mako? Well, you'll just have to wait and see for that. It will be interesting and from an RP aspect, which I know not that many people are excited about, but it makes me happy and that's what matters.

None of the in character stuff I do with Mako involves the mafia. The Illuminati takes time out of their day for mafia related things, but that's not even close to the full picture! And I hope people see that, and if they haven't, I hope they look for it upcoming in my rps.
Lets just say... Mako is having some second thoughts about this Illuminati ordeal and doesn't know how much longer he can bare the secrets of what partakes in the society on his shoulders. Like I said, should be interesting.... So keep an eye out for some of my RPs that I'll be doing if you're interested.

Not many people go for the bigger picture when they create a character. I haven't really ran into anyone in ANY RP game that has things as thought out as you do. This definitely makes me see you in a different light, and I'm not saying that to prevent me from getting shot.

What's your Top 5 movies of all time?

Top five movies of all time to me. Hmm... To be truthful, I'm not as big of a movie buff that I used to be, but there are some titles that do stick out. Never can forget Casino, The Departed, or Goodfellas. Weirdly enough, those are the type of movies I enjoy to watch. Comedy is always a good choice. Not a big buff either, unless you count sports. I guess those days have become a llittle more behind me than anything else.

Yea, Goodfellas has to be the greatest mafia movie of all time. People like to say Scarface is, but Scarface isn't a mafia movie. Its about a guy who becomes the #1 drug Kingpin in the world. Only the GodFather 2 rivals Goodfellas.

Well, is there anything else you want to let the community know?

Mako stands up from the chair and finishes off the glass of vodka. After putting on his duster and hat, he turns toward Kal-EL and nods.

"The Illuminati has no further comments at this time, or any messages for the community. I guess besides what people already know.

The Illuminati is always watching. We are a secret society for a reason."

Without another word, Mako walks out of the room, leaving the interviewer behind him past the door. So endeth the interview.

(OOC: I want to thank GF Mako for the great experience. It was something amazing and it exceeded all expectations I had about this. He can fucking RP with the best of them, and I didn't have to do all the work. The chemistry was smooth. Let it be a lesson to everyone.

I didn't participate in the threads about the streets being dead. I didn't complain to anyone, and I went back to read some of the old Street legends like FlyingPig's work. That guy was a genius and deserves a lot of credit. No matter what anyone says, he deserves a golden statue.

TheJoker_, HarleyQuinn, and I decided to try this out. I hope it goes a long way, and even when I do stop playing this game I hope someone carries the torch on this. Stop bitching and go find new ideas, or revamp the old ones and make the Street more lively.)

Maeve thinks to herself after hearing the interview with Mako. The Illuminati... Damn, it would be great to have her own little secret society! Well, she's a smart girl. Maybe she'll just make one herself! She smiles and walks on by.
