It's always better when the Mob runs things. Started by: Frank_Ligambi on Oct 23, '14 07:37

Las Vegas is a great place because the mob runs everything...............keep the money flowing.

Frank_Ligambi strolls into the streets and lets the world know what is on his mind. He has just been released from prison after spending 8 years on some racketeering charges and all that time behind bars has allowed him to obtain his degrees in philosophy and economics, a crowning achievement in his family. He dreams of being part of a Las Vegas from old times when you could be a part of a community of gangsters who ran casinos and bars and parlors, who ran everything in town.

"In my opinion things are better when the Mob is in charge. What do you think? It seems like an argument worth examining"

When the wise guys were part of the community.......

If you live in the community you want to be engaged in the community. Once upon a time we were allowed to operate legally, you appreciated it as a wise guy and you reveled in it. You took ownership of everything you did.

Unlike the old days now many of the casino executives live elsewhere and spend all their time globe-trotting. They're not invested, they don't really give a flying fuck. Back in the day when the Flamingo and Stardust were the only thing going on the old-time operators, the mobsters, lived in town and it was definitely better. It was amazing you might run into mobsters at the country club, coffee shop, church or casino. You could rub elbows with them and Hollywood Stars like ZoeyH.

America has and always will have a fascination with outlaws. Back in the day Las Vegas residents got to live among them. They were certainly more colorful people, they had style and substance. Mobsters like my Uncle Joe, Joseph_Ligambi were all over the place.

And those gangsters as dangerous as they may have been, they gave back. Old school mobster Moe Dalitz and his partners generously built the Sunrise Hospital. He also gave the University of Nevada - Las Vegas money for all their furniture in the first University building. Mob bosses generously paid hospital bills for the sick children of casino employees. The mob was invested in a city that ran successfully.

Mob families may not have been invested in good government but who cares? What has government brought to you other than headaches and heartburn. Any big city has had it's share of educational, crime and traffic problems always due to uncoordinated growth. It was never due to Mob ownership of hotels and casinos. You may argue that once law abiding corporations were allowed to own casinos they could bring massive capital to the economy. This of course can lead to bigger resorts more jobs and rapid population growth. If you think about it though all that growth with no real investment in society and the ties that bind us doesn't really do any good. If you don't eat and sleep where you make your money and shit then what are doing?

There was less crime when the Mob ran the town. Because there was no need to rob or commit burglaries because there was so much legal gambling money coming in that the families didn't want to bring any heat to their operations. The skim at the Stardust was $7 million per year and at the Flamingo, it was $36 million from during the 1960's.I hear from certain associates at the Tropicana it was $150,000 per month. Sure that money was taken from the top and no taxes were paid, but do you think current bankrupt casino operators are really paying all they should in taxes. At least the mafia families would fix the streets, build the hospitals and maintain the cutting edge image of Vegas. We needed to attract the entertainers and the money. We wouldn't allow anything to get in our way. It was true capitalism. Banks versus organized crime is not really a close call. Banks are the real crooks and thieves.

Cocktail waitresses, bartenders and all employees made good money in the real Mob days. Sure the IRS wasn’t as rigorous about collecting taxes on tips back then and casinos didn’t have to report when someone won a big jackpot. There were a lot of loopholes and they benefited everyone even the little guys. Nowadays the banks and rich executives are the only ones that benefit.

In the restaurants you can still find a $7 prime rib dinner and lobsters and caviar. In old school Vegas though food was less expensive overall nowadays any cheap Hometown buffet will cost you $25 dollars or more. Screw Guy Savoy, since when does a french prick making je ne sais quois commandeer $250 a plate dinners I mean seriously what is this shit.

Most importantly and finally, yes, I would love to see Frank Sinatra again. We should get Frank_Sinatra a show again it would be grand. I would take Sinatra over any show currently in Vegas Britney who? Celine Difuckthat! I would take Frank Sinatra over any performer at any time in the history of the planet. Fly me to the moon my man and let me play amongst the stars! The human race has it better when he's on stage.

Nowadays all you get is a magician with pasty white skin and blue guys jumping around making you feel awkward.

It's too bad the police have pretty much taken the mob currently out of Vegas but we should stake our claim and make a comeback a serious takeover and make this the most happening city of all.

After all.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas........
