Unwritten Rules of Mafia Etiquette Started by: Luxuria on Mar 24, '09 06:41
It's occurred to me that of late, so many of this world have forgotten the ways of old, the genteel rules of etiquette when dealing in this thing of ours, so, together with a few others I've compiled a list of old rules of engagement with other players and basic explanations for each.

Rule one:
Never ask for drug prices in other cities with out first offering a copy of the prices in your own.

In day's of old this was a show of trust, the information given could very well reveal the location of a person. These days, it's a simple matter of courtesy, get what you give. I for one refuse to give prices to any one who doesn't give me theirs first.

Rule Two:
Bail active inmates before the sleepers.

Nobody likes being in jail, but at least if your asleep, your not pacing, most people who fail once will fail again, allotting more busts then simply bailing the sleepers first, then the active inmates.

Remember, Bail unto others as you would have bailed unto you...

Rule Three:
Leave the inmates with the most guards for last.

Every one works hard to set up a jail break, but the people paying the guards off should be allotted the honor of bailing those big shots locked up in the jail.. Yeah, it makes you look good to walk in there and help get those guys out,

Rule Four:
Unless it's a matter of life or death, approach the Left or right hand man or woman with questions before you approach the crew leader him or herself.

Most people assume the crew leader has nothing to do but cater to their whim and will, THIS IS NOT SO! Believe it or not, the boss man is rather busy 99% of the time, bring matters to the right or left hand man first, or better yet, if you have Sub crews, talk to your sub crew leader first.

Most crew leaders of old never talked to their crew much more then to give orders, some stooping so far as to kill members who insisted on whining to them to much, whispering: "Next time ya gonna have ta keep ya trap shut, Schmuck."

Rule Five:
Never, Never, Never buy out of a crew.

Buying out of a crew is one of the most disrespectful things you could do short of killing yourself. Most crew leaders will drop you if your reasoning is proper... Leave with your honor intact, or don't leave at all.

Rule Six:
Do not flood other Mobsters about any thing, whether it's a bar you've just posted, or your boss about your next promo.

First off, if you've opened a bar, customers are better at advertising then you it's better to be modest and let others do the talking, you look so much better if you're not spamming everyone with requests to visit your bar. Your best tactic is to depend on word of mouth as a general rule.

Rule Seven:
If you want to go to heaven fast, retiring is not the answer, nor is suicide.

Speak to your hit squad leader, Right, or Left hand men, They'll be willing to help you out, it helps the family in the end if your gonna leave, at least, then, a family member gets the kill, leave with dignity and honor, not disgrace.

Rule Eight:
Witness statements go to your crew collector and no one else.

God, how many times have I heard people say "Nice shot" in a public room? You just saw some one get killed, open your mouth any bigger and some one will put a gun in it to shut you up one of these days, Don't ask, don't tell.

Rule Nine:
Your gun is a private matter.

No one should know your numbers, no one should know you even shoot it, this is your saving grace, you and your hit squad leader are the only ones who should know the numbers. If your a shooter, take pride and hide, the more people who know you shoot, the bigger the target on your back.

Rule Ten:
Respect, Honor, Silence, Loyalty And Family.

Respect, Give it to all, expect it from none.

Honor, Take pride in being the best you can be and don't stoop to the level of all others, just because some one else said it, don't copy it, be proud, Your a mobster, yes, but you also a family member. Take Pride in yourself and your family.

Silence, Speak to none of family matters, speak to none of guns and battles, protect your loved ones, your family, and others who depend on you. To others speak nothing but banter and known facts, even simple stuff can get you and yours killed.

Loyalty, When words and promises are all you have to live on, loyalty is more important then almost any thing else, when you bind yourself, tie yourself tightly, because loyalty breeds loyalty and is repaid in trust. Be loyal to yourself, and your family.

If you show no loyalty to your family, no other family should stoop to taking you in, because you've already proven you're willing to leave the family that protected you in your tender years as a gangster and goomba. The only exception to this is to take a job within a new family.

Family, Respect it, Love it, Honor it, stand for it, Live for it, DIE for it. Each and every member of that family is family for life, every member lives and dies For the family, With out family you'd be nothing, with out family, you'd be dead.

You are your family, you are by the blood you signed in, Part of that family for life. To turn your back on your family is to turn your back on yourself, total lack of respect, honor, loyalty, Life. Your family protect you, Provides a place to grow, live, love, be... Honor your family above all else, for it is good. To turn your back on your family is to die.

Rule Eleven:
Picking pockets is fun... not worth crying over.

I can sum this up fast, Do you like loosing your hard earned cash? Course not, but 1 - 5,000$ is nothing when you make that much in one flight is it? Don't whine about pick pockets even the best of us get hit now and then and though it can be annoying it's not really worth moaning over.

On the other hand, if some one has "Don't touch" me written all over the way they walk and talk, it's likely they'll have a gun ready to take you out if your fingers are caught in their pocket.

Rule Twelve:
The Made Man button is the ultimate sign of Trust, loyalty, honor and respect. Respect the suit, Respect the button, Respect the rank, Respect the made man.

To be Made... Few of this day and age realize what this entitles, the respect and honor that is represented in the made mans pin, This is the ultimate sign of family, this is the bosses way of saying "I Trust This Person To Represent Me." You are, in receiving this pin, in essence an extensions of your crew leader, your words are suddenly worth more, your actions reflect back on your leader, What You Do Matters. This isn't just another rank, just another set of jobs, this is entrance into the inner circle within the family.

Do not be fooled by the petty value of this pin on the streets, it's worth every drop of blood you spill working for it. You'll never be as much a part of the family as the day your don the Made Man's Pin. Remember that next time you feel the need to spew out your mouth.

Rule Thirteen:
Whispers should be polite, their crimes are buried with them, so should your bitter feelings.

Whisper's should never be insulting, whether it's friend or foe, their dead buried, and all your dancing on their grave make you look like an ass, in the old days grave pissing was enough to start wars, keep this in mind, because this day and age, your life is sacrificed for the safety of the family.

Rule fourteen:
Don't Beg.

Self explanatory, No, I don't want it. No, I'm not giving it to you. No, your begging won't help. Just don't beg.

Rule fifteen:
Enjoy Life!

We all come back, Reincarnated threw our children, enjoy life, it's not like you'll never live again.

Rule sixteen:
Your Leader is Always Right.

No matter how many journals, diaries, stories and myths you've heard, the boss is ALWAYS right... In signing the rules when you joined the crew, you signed away your life to your Crew leader, some Leaders will allow members to input on his or her choices, but in the end, it's up to your boss, if your boss says Jump, You ask how high, not why.

Rule Seventeen:
Don't expect to live if you don't tell your boss your going on Vacation.

Walking out the door and not coming back for a month will have you walking back in to find a gun to your head, boom... your dead.

Rule eighteen:
Earn your invite.

Treat this as a job interview, give a list of your lines history in good detail, make it worth reading, make it interesting, none of this "Can I has a Invit?" One liners should be ignored...

Rule nineteen:
Respect the Dead.

Funerals are places for family members to come to say good bye, if you must celebrate victory, private pubs and houses are good places to do so, Funeral's are a place of respect and goodbyes. So much like whispers, Respect should be shown at all times or face death yourself.

Rule Twenty:
Respect a person's wish to be left alone. If a person doesn't want to be bother, than don't bother them.

Take a hint, if some one says bug off, bug off, you don't make friends by bugging people.

Also, if some one comes to you with a question about the game, be polite,

And my final point:

Though it's not required that you follow these, respect yourself and those around you and keep them in mind. And when in doubt, keep in mind the golden rule, "Do unto others as you would have done to you.

I'd like to thank the Crew leaders who helped me, my friends and any one else who inputted into this. Also, These are not rules, these are guild lines, this is a code of conduct..
