Ziva's Daily(ish) Roundup Returns Started by: Ziva on Mar 07, '15 18:53

Ziva had been putting off the unpleasant task of taking apart the contents of Godmother Maria's apartment for some days now. She knew it had to be done sooner or later. The manager of the building had been understanding at first when Ziva had explained that Maria had passed away and that she needed a little time to clear out the apartment, but that she couldn't afford to upkeep the rent on it herself. But, time was money, especially in real estate, and Ziva had her own cross country move to complete. So, to that end, Ziva had set aside most of the afternoon to box up Maria's possessions. Some, she was sure, she would keep, take home to the small apartment that she'd rented since her own arrival in Chicago. Some she would box up to mail out to family members scattered across the country. Some would be taken back to the old country to be passed on to folk there. And some, she would throw away, or give to Goodwill.

The kitchen had been cleared quite quickly. The bedroom had presented more of a challenge, but now was all packed up in the correct boxes. Ziva then turned her attention to the office. She was sorting through a filing cabinet that mostly seemed to be filled with inventory reports and rental agreements when she came across a brown envelope with an address that Ziva recognized as being from on the outskirts of the city. Inside the envelope was a single key. Although she knew she should be the responsible adult and check the address out on another day, Ziva was about ready for a break from the sorting a tidying, and so, placed the key and the envelope in her pocket, locked up the apartment and jumped into her car.

She wondered idly as she sped down the highway what the address might mean. Some kind of weapons stash, perhaps? Maybe some kind of safe? Fuck only knew.

She pulled the car into the parking lot, and was surprised to step out to a large storage unit warehouse. She gave Maria's name to the grumpy looking old broad on the reception desk, who, in return, directed her to the third floor, locker 3643.

Slipping the key into the lock, Ziva swung open the door, to find some kind of Aladdin's cave of family heirlooms, relics and possessions stored away. There were letters and journals from ancestors of old, jewels, art, some items surely from the old country. There were deeds to old business properties, keys to HQ's, photographs of friends of old. And, in one corner, a beautifully painted up newspaper stand. On the front read "Ziva's Daily Roundup". Intrigued, and slightly excited to see her own name, a name that had carried through several generations of her family, Ziva walked over the investigate the stand, and found a yellowed, folded up copy of the Roundup underneath the stand. She sat and read through it, suddenly inspired. Determined, she wheeled the stand out to her car and loaded it up into the trunk.

Between arranging her move and settling down in Philadelphia, she made some little renovations to the stand - a fresh coat of paint, a couple of additions. And, most excitingly, to her, she made up a poster, which today she headed out onto the streets of Philadelphia to hang. As she tacked it up onto a wall, she stood back to admire her handiwork.

The local streets of Philly were live. Many had flocked here after the recent wars to start a new and escape other troubled areas of the country. Not so different from where Philadelphia was a short while ago. Oh how things change, thought Scarfo, as he strolled amongst the people.

Scarfo was a busy man these days, especially the past 48hours with much happening around Don Capazzo's mansion. Still, he made it an important task to be amongst the people as much as possible, if not only to keep a keen ear and make sure he was aware of what the grape vine was sprouting.

After talking to some of the locals, Scarfo happened upon Ziva looking intently at a wall. It caught his attention, and with it he stopped to see what she found so interesting. He stopped next to her and took a glance to where her focus was position, reading the poster that could be seen tacked up for all to see.

"Ziva's daily-ish roundup. Returning soon."

Scarfo continued the road the poster inwardly, before turning his attention to Ziva and speaking up.

"A news publication to hit the streets, it looks like. We could do with something like that, especially here in Philly. The growing population needs to know what's what, and the activity of the streets should reach many more than just those that make their way into the groups and stand amongst the chatter. A new take on the headlines across the city sounds good."

Scarfo nodded a few times, in self approval, as he finished speaking.

Luigi-Antonino had been doing his daily rounds. He was going from his barber shop to Mama Luca's Italian Restaurant. His stomach was grumbling after sitting in the barber's chair for the last two hours getting the perfect haircut and shave. His Italian loafers clicked and clacked on the hard concrete floors and Luigi could see the city was abuzz with activity. There were a lot of new faces and businesses being setup and Luigi wondered if there was some way to learn more about the comings and going and general happenings.

He came to a crosswalk and saw a large announcement tacked up to a wall........

Aha the answer to my demands! It seemed Luigi always had things in his mind that seemingly popped into view. A strange occurrence or maybe some form of psychic clairvoyance powers......

The weather had drastically improved from this morning. The sun shined bright, light beams reflected off the pavements. There wasn't a dead heat as there was a little breeze which made the heat bearable. The good weather brought out nearly all the citizens of Philadelphia.  Phantom walked down the streets alone. As usual he had a cigarette in his mouth. He only use to smoke to warm his self up but now it had turned into a habit. Phantom was going to a local bar with a couple of friends and they were going to organize there next crime.

Phantom was getting closer to the bar, his mouth was beginning to get dry and his thirst became unbearable. Phantom caught a colorful poster in the corner of his eye. It was stuck up against a red wall. Phantom went over to it and quickly scanned it. He read into himself. It seemed to be a poster about a newspaper returning. Phantom smiled to himself as he loved reading newspapers. Whether it was in the back of a taxi or on the toilet, he could read newspapers anywhere. Phantom analysed the poster one more time he realized that Ziva was the creator of the newspaper. Phantom turned around to see Ziva nearby. Phantom strolled up to her. With a strong smile still on his face he said.

“Hello Ziva, I’m looking forward of your first edition of the return of this wonderful newspaper. I can’t wait to find out all the news of street. There is not enough of these papers to buy so hopefully that will change quickly. I would love a sneak peak before the newspaper goes on shelf. Best of luck to you, I know your business will succeed.”
