The Take Down of Scandia Started by: Oliver_McTavish on Nov 18, '07 18:00
I believe I am massively late on this speech, yes, but unfortunately other circumstances beyond my control had to be dealt with first.

So, you all want to know what happened with Scandia? Well, I killed him, I will be outright honest about that. Not trying to hide anything. Yet I suppose you all want to know the reasons why? It’s only right, I do believe I owe you all that much.

Why did Scandia die? Too many damn reasons. If I were to truly chronicle everything, it would take ages, and I really do not have that much time to write something up.

For a long time now I have felt that the man had not valued my opinion much on any subject. Call it petty, but I have always been rather feminine when it comes to dealing with my feelings. This, for lack of a better phrase, has ‘rubbed me the wrong way’ for quite some time. Yet, I’m a man who does not dwell to much, so let things slide by the wayside.

It was when Scandia’s family members began approaching me, asking me for advice on how they could start ranking within their family, or asking for loans that something did not click right. Some approached my Right Hand asking for advice on training his gun. One even commit suicide so that his son may join Badass Inc. where he knew he could not. Surely, surely this is something they could have asked the man- or at least talked to him about themselves? Well of course I asked the many who continuously came to me- it seemed as if there was a less than an open door policy on how the esteemed members of that crew could be contacted. Again, it did not sit well in my stomach, but what really could have been done?

The turning point came only a week or less ago. After the auth of Seventh in New York, Scandia approached me. He seemed to think that the families of Cthulhu and the newly authed Seventh were up to something big… something that could ultimately end in the demise of all the other families of our world. That they were attempting a ‘power hold’ or were going to make a play for more power. I remember that then and there the man gave me three options- that we could attack first, approach them and ask about it, or simply wait and see what happened. It had been a long time since I had seen such a fevered paranoia in a leader- and it was too reminiscent of the man that I officially stepped up for a bold suit to destroy.

Me? I am a man who likes to weigh options. I asked for time before giving him an answer, as I did not entirely believe that the leaders from New York, who had always been so open and honest with me, could be planning to throw a spanner in the workings of our world. For the next day I observed and came to my own personal conclusion that things were not going to be as drastic as the man had made out. Never again did I approach him or bring up the subject.

I instead went about my own business, including the authing of my esteemed colleague Jay-C into Chicago, our home city. The response that Scandia supplied me with was what broke me in the end. Chicago, being under my jurisdiction, was mine to use however I pleased- but out of respect for the other city leaders and Family Heads I sent correspondence to let them know of my intentions. A slight remark barely a sentence long was my reply. In utter disbelief that the man could act in such a way, I am proud to say that I acted with as much indifference to him when he presented his newest candidate for auth into Los Angeles.

The greatest disagreement I have ever seen break out in a coffeshop ensued. It was that very day that I decided the man should die. With only a handful of my best men available, I pulled them all together and we started our attack.

So there you have it. Out in the open. Any questions can be directed to my mailbox at my headquarters. You may now commence your ass kissing or abuse at will.
Report Post Tip
You didn't have to explain anything, you had your reasons and as long as you believe your actions were correct then you did the right thing.

Too many people here think too much and ask for too many other people's opinions before acting. We are the mafia, we are supposed to make tough decisions ourselves. Right or wrong reasoning, you did just that and isn't that what our leaders are supposed to do? To make decisions that us lowly hoodlums aren't ready to make yet.

Some people will love you for war, some will loathe you. Either way, stay true to your instincts and when you do finally pass onto the other side, you shall with a peaceful conscience.
Report Post Tip
I do say old chap, thanks for informing us at last as to what happened that dreadfully delightful night. I was getting worried you never would.
Report Post Tip
You didn't have to explain yourself...pointless.

I would love to hear his side of the story though.

seance anyone?

Sounds like someone I know.

Lolz, despite the fact you two were getting on so well in a recent war, one providing the pro shot for the other straight after shooting, et al..... Short memory? I think I remember you quoting in the coffee shops 'damn, we rule' or something equally as ghey. Carry on.
Report Post Tip
Not really a short memory. Oliver and Scandia used each other during that war to ensure their own survival. Had it been another of the Family heads that had been contacted by Scandias' family and then proceeded to take him out you wouldn't be able to stand on that comment.

People forget to often that while we work with people in the past does not mean that we hold a lasting alliance with them. In fact the only family that Oliver should hold true to is Jay-C's. That is unless something happens in the future to cause matters to turn different.

I do not know the in's and outs of Scandia's family but I believe my boss and he acted accordingly. A Family head that doesn't take time to ensure their family knows what they need to know is failing in their position as head.
Report Post Tip
My dad was under Scandia, and what you say doesn't suprise me. You had your reasons, you're a CL for a reason and what's done is done. Mistakes happen and hopefully history won't repeat itself.

The man whom committed suicide had not earned enough points yet to rank up to Wise Guy, and was ranked only moment before killing himself. That really didn't have nothing to do with being in our crew. Some of us rank slower than others. I myself didn't rank up to Made Man till I was old enough to be a Boss and I was online A LOT, doing my stuff, when I need to. Scandia had similar ranking problems, it wasn't just the crew members. I'm not saying you are wrong I am sure they did approach you seeing as you have the highest rank in our world. Many came to the heads of the family, but some didn't. We made it very clear that you could ask us anything at anytime and would receive an answer in just.

This I really can't comment on too much because he didn't make any of these worries apparent to me. But why should he I was only a lowly RHM.

I am not going to say his candidate should of been authed. It was definitely one of his only times I had seen him take preference for someone because they were his friend, not because they had proved himself. P.O.D. lets out a sigh.

My only big deal with this is destroying the entire family over this. I am not accusing your family because I haven't seen any witness statements, but I don't think because of you not liking Scandia that his ex-members should have been free-for-all. They deserved their 24 hours of protection, and I think it is unfair those who died after Scandia was dealt with, especially since 90% of them had tags.

I just don't understand why his punishment was carried out on the entire crew. Especially since my father had gotten so far in life only to have it snuffed out in his sleep. I am not going to complain largely, because I am only frustrated by the unnecessary deaths that took place that day and being my father's position I can see why his death was necessary. What is done is done.

Just figured I'd give you all a piece of my mind seeing as I don't think I do it often enough.

Thank you all for listening.
Report Post Tip
Well my dear friend If you should know our family did send out word that his family was to be given time to find a home.Anything WiseGuy and up tho I am sure had no choice then to be taken out. I mean we don't need pissed off survivors going rogue now do we?

It is sad to say but in times of war you must make sure that when you attack ,you make sure to leave no one that can continue on the fight alive. Its called survival.

Either way...whats done is done.

Thank you Boss for clarifying the situation for us all
Report Post Tip
I have only one question to this entire incident, at anytime you "warred" Scandia, was he online?
Report Post Tip
Once again not directed at your family but...

They couldn't rogue all of them are Earner or under. All of them tagged. All of them died unnecessarily. At the very least I would've liked to see the other leaders to follow your example. It is as I understand it pretty much an unwritten rule to allow the recent homeless some time to find new homes. Most of those on the list didn't even know about the war until they awoke in the morning. Very unhonorable display by those under their respective leaders. I mean, god damn people. Show some restraint.
Report Post Tip
well if they where under earner then I am sure my family was not a part of those killings. We were strictly given order that if we shot we would be punished.
Report Post Tip
Scandia died November 17 at 28 minutes after midnight.

Let's take a look at the members of The Honourable Organisation who were given a chance to find a home, provided they were ranked Earner or below:

Alkado1, Gangster, affiliation clearly marked in profile, died 7 minutes after Scandia.

D-Day_Dumoulin, Gangster, affiliation clearly marked in profile, died 28 minutes after Scandia.

VladimirLenin, Gangster, affiliation clearly marked in profile, died 25 minutes after Scandia.

LadyPenelop, Gangster, affiliation clearly marked in profile, died 28 minutes after Scandia.

tatorbits, Gangster, affiliation clearly marked in profile, died 31 minutes after Scandia.

Hitman_908, Goomba, affiliation clearly marked in profile, died 38 minutes after Scandia.

SoulHooligan, Goomba, affiliation clearly marked in profile, died an hour and 2 minutes after Scandia.

So that's just the kiddos who died within the first hour after their leader fell.

Look, Oliver is a crewleader and can do whatever he wants. More respect and power to him... But don't come out here and say that they members of Scandia's crew were given time to find shelter after Scandia fell. That's just disrespectful and unintelligent.

Please.
Report Post Tip
Nikki Believe what you want. Oliver Messaged us all. Told us they where to be given time.

Now if other families did not do it that is of there own accord, but as for Oliver I know we where told to ceasefire on them when Scandia died.
Report Post Tip
It is indeed true that orders were given to our members not to shoot any remaining members of Scandias family who are wearing the family name.

Seeing no words from witnesses reached us stating that our family did not follow this orders, we can only still assume that the killings were done by the other crews.

It is always sad to watch the aftermaths of wars, it is always difficult to find a unique response by all crews on such a matter, history has shown that.

It is only in a CLs hand to stop his own family from hunting down the left overs.

Oliver did that.

Cathal makes his way into the midst of the discussion, and clears his throat.

Normally I'd stay out of this kind of discussion, because there is always some unpleasantness exchanged here. I have friends on both sides of the topic regarding the potentially unnecessary killing of Scandia's members following his death. In a perfect world, when a leader falls, the war should be deemed over. Everyone knows this does not happen. Then comes this inevitable discourse about who deserved to live, and who should have died. I will say that some of the names in the obituaries were perhaps very unethical kills. However, on the other side of the coin, I'd invite you all to take a closer look at some of the names mentioned by Prophet of Despair and Nikki, and take note that a fair portion of the gangsters and goombas from Scandia's crew were dreadfully inactive, some of them died during a prolonged sleep (OOC: They were reasonably inactive when they were killed, and have yet to sign in to even notice).

In this life that we lead, many of us believe that the unsponsored members of a family deserve complete protection. Unfortunately, there is also a significant portion of the population who think seeing a wave of unprotected people is like chumming the water in the vicinity of sharks. I can't say who is right, but I think that it is pertinent for us to see that this issue will never be black and white.
Report Post Tip
Cathal, fair enough. You raised a good point. I did go back and check myself, and you're right. Some of them were.

Regardless, and again, I care because friends were slain, but I understand because its the mafia... If the gripe was with Scandia not taking care of his crew to the point that they were going to Oliver for assistance, then why take it out on the helpless after Scandia fell, as there were people who were active among the fallen within the 24 hour period.

No, its not a rule... nor is it a law, and I fully believe that Oliver messaged the family telling them not to shoot. Perhaps if Oliver had come to the streets as was done after Proteus fell, many people could have been spared.
Report Post Tip
And I may have missed one, but in the list I provided, I think only one was inactive... and by 3 days.
