Ziva's Daily Roundup - 28/02 Started by: Ziva on Feb 28, '14 03:51

Back in the same spot as the previous evening, Ziva holds a fresh stack of newly printed Daily Roundup's. Although not blown away with the response to the previous issues edition, she nevertheless appreciated greatly the kind comments of those who had taken time to read and respond, and especially the generous benefactors who had eased the costs of printing the production a little. As you walk past, she nudges a copy into your hand with a smile and a cheery "Have a nice evening!", although the sound is muffled somewhat by the scarf wrapped double around her face.

ZIVA'S DAILY ROUNDUP
Issue Two

Motor City Rebirth Special:

Corktown falls Silent

A deathly hush fell over Corktown today as it's newest crime syndicate rolled into town. The successor to Raptor and TokyoZombi in continuing the criminal tradition in the district, which has boasted notable leaders of the likes of Anomaly, JackRyan, Orithyia and Subtle has been announced as Billy, leader of 'Dead Silence', the self proclaimed story telling division of Czylharz, who had previously worked under JakeLuciano in the Suburbs of Chicago. Soon after making his move, Billy took to the streets to announce his first auth, Visicaro, who will go on to run 'Hunting Season' within the district. We here at the Daily Roundup would like to congratulate both Billy and Visicaro on the move, and hope that the new tenants of Corktown can continue the tradition of strong leaders prevalent in the district since it became part of our world.

Downtown goes Ninja

The rebirth of Detroit was furthered only hours later, when Downtown became the next district to be populated. Yobssarg, previously an inhabitant of the Bronx, New York, was authed into Detroit by Godfather Cantillion. Yobssarg will head up the Shoryuken syndicate, and states he is looking foward to working with Billy.

Here's hoping that Detroit's new inhabitants can usher in a new age of the city thriving once more.

Blackout in Black Bottom

The only district left unattended to in today's announcements and movements is Black Bottom, last home to Godfather Dripple. We here at the Daily Roundup would like to speculate on the future of the district. It seems almost certain, given that Chicago and New York have both now sent their own auths, and given the current state of Philadelphia, that the last remaining district may be given over to contest. The possibilities for such a contest district are endless, although hopefully infinitely less dismal than the last contest offerings our world endured. On behalf of her departed Grandmother, the author would here like to insert an 'I told you so' to those who insisted our last round of contests would be anything other than a shambles.

So, hopefully as opposed to Crew Leader Idol: Detroit, what are the possibilities? On a personal level, the author is hoping to see something a little more structured, a little less of a popularity contest and a little more of a reflection of the world we are supposed to live in. Something, perhaps, a little more of the style of the Las Vegas Project - although it could be called into question whether or not the prize of a share in a city as opposed to control of the city is enough of an incentive to attract mafiosi to put their lives on the line. Lives on the line though, would undoubtedly separate the men from the boys. The Kukulinski bloodline in the not too distant past posited the idea of a dueling contest to determine the successor to a district. That too could be an interesting solution to the question of Black Bottom.

Ultimately, we here at the Daily Roundup will be awaiting an announcement from the Godfathers with baited breath - and we'll hopefully be the first to report the news when it comes!

DanThe(Bad)Man

One of New York's most notorious Don's has been seen confined in the jail of the Gods twice in the last two days. Rumors abound that wee Dan has been caught committing one of the most notorious crimes that a young man can commit: the neglecting of his education! After spending two days in the classroom with bars, Dan has been seen back out on our streets, albeit looking slightly haunted by the tough prison life. Will he ever be the same again?

Dan had picked up a copy of Ziva's new paper. It was interesting, it covered routine things about Detroit and even the speculation regarding it's third district. If only she knew how close to the truth she was. He continued reading until he saw the line about him. How did she know? How did ANYONE know? Dan started sweating and looked around, people began to stare at him.

'I'M NOT STUPID, OKAY? I JUST DON'T LIKE CLASS.' Dan yelled at the people around him. They had begun weird stares and began to laugh.

'It's not funny!' Dan liked the paper. It had included him, even if it brought up his down moments.

'Zivaaaa! Wonderful paper, dear! Can we expect more?'

Dan smiled.

Ziva patted Dan on the back.

It's okay Dan. You're not the first, you won't be the last. Perhaps we can get cells next to each other next time we both let class slip, and play hangman to pass the time. Or sing songs! Singing songs could be lovely! Oh imagine the possibilities Dan!

Thank you, though, for the kind words on my paper. We most certainly can be expecting more - and expect an exciting announcement in the next few days regarding the future!

He picks up a copy roundup and takes his time reading the news. He looks towards Ziva.

Long may this continue young lady I certainly am enjoying this newspaper. In regards to Black Bottom I would say that you're correct in your speculation and hopefully it won't be as shambolic as the last set of contests this world endured.  I think the idea that was brought foward by the Kulinski was certainly original and I am sure something along those lines would create a buzz. Hopefully the Godfather Council will pick up on this and try to bring something that gets us talking for the right reasons.

Having been impressed by the previous offering of Ziva's Daily Roundup, Dougal ensured he took a detour on his travels to see if Ziva was in the same spot she had been in the previous evening. Sure enough, she was, and Dougal once again approached her for a copy of the Daily Roundup. He sat down at a nearby bench to catch up on the day's current events. He was particularly pleased at the stories surrounding the rebirth of Detroit, and agreed with the sentiment conveyed within the article.

Having felt guilty at not leaving Ziva a tip the previous evening, Dougal duly obliged on this occasion, smiling at Ziva as he did so and wishing her a good evening. "If it ensures the survival of quality journalism it is a small price to pay" he thought as he climbed onto his lovely horse and rode off through the fields.

Thank you for your kind words, gents! It's always great to hear positive feedback, makes it far easier to keep going.

As she heads off to ready this evenings Roundup, Ziva wonders where the lovely horse is going with its fetlocks blowing in the wind. She makes a mental note to bring some sugar lumps along with her next time she's out distributing. She'd like to shower the horse with the sugar lumps. 'I wonder', she thought, 'Does Dougal ride the horse over fences?".

Disgusted with the rag she had read earlier, Mercury sought out something with real news. She lit the copy of "Daily News" on fire and tossed it into the nearest trashcan. She went to her regular newsstand and had a word with Carl.

Hey Carl, what ya got with REAL news around here? she asked. No rags!

Carl thought for a moment then presented Mercury with "Ziva's Daily Roundup". Mercury flipped him a nickel and walked off reading it. Now this was more like it! She'd finally found something worth reading.

Upon completing it, Mercury went to the local Western union and sent a telegram to the editor.

Thumbs up to Ziva's Daily Roundup! What a refreshing read!

Mercury left it unsigned, paid for the delivery and headed back out into the streets.

Report Post Tip

Receiving a telegram praising her Daily Roundup had made Ziva's day. Beaming, she propped it up on her desk, to remind her what her hard work was for.
