This is something I've been toying with for a while now, every time the idea pops back into my little brain I can't help but think, "that could be really cool." What I'm after is several writers, each capable of adopting a style and writing a pre-determined story in that style. I will provide a synopsis, and some character details for a mafia based story (not too long, promise) which we will then write in our individual styles - just to see how well it works. I attempted to do this myself, but to be honest, I'm just not that talented. At this stage I am pretty much just gauging interest, if there's not enough to make it worthwhile I won't bother with the story/character development work. My initial thoughts are to attempt to get this story written up in the following styles. Noir Comedy/Romantic Comedy Thriller Action (may have to be written up in a script style to pull this off) Literary/Novella I'm sure we can squeeze in as many variations as we have willing participants, but I'd like to see those basic themes covered. So, anyone interested? Or shall I consign this to the darkest depths of my mind once more until I have the time (and ability?) to try it myself. Should any Crew Leaders or Gods want to sponsor this as some kind of competition, that would be lovely, if not it'll just be for the pleasure of doing it. |

Had a feeling you would, Cathy :) I have decided to temporarily cure my family's recent habit of dying every day and join a family (subject to finding one willing to accept an idle git like me) to make communication somewhat simpler while we're doing this. |

All sounds good mate, but I can't help but notice one glaring omission. In your list of genres, 'XXX Rated' is conspicuous by it's absence. This situation must be remedied, and once it is, I would be more than willing to assist you in your quest for amateur porn. On the other hand, perhaps not. Recently I've been having some rather, ummm, "unusual" fantasies, and it may be best for everyone involved if such thoughts are not made public knowledge. |

So, I left here a minute ago, and went to church. Hey, I'm a religious kinda guy, it sure helps fill in the blanks where science screws up. Oddly, one of the gods spoke to me directly. I was a little freaked out, as you can imagine, but once I'd regained my composure we had a chat about sponsorship of this here experiment, and here is what we are doing in the way of prizes: The overall best entry (as judged by the Gods) will win a 10% stat boost - now, I have no idea what a stat boost is, these gods have a bloody strange way of speaking, but that's what he said to me, so that's what I'm saying to you. Can I get a cleanup in aisle 4, I just saw 30 hitters drooling over there... There will be a further two runners up prizes winning 2 BGs a piece. Still no porn section. Sorry. |

The more the merrier, I always say, especially now we're making a competition of it, I suppose people should write in the style in which they're most confident. I will get working on a basic plot outline tonight and tomorrow. |

That fella that could well be Evsie lights a fire in a discarded oil drum, handily filled with all manner of wood and papers to get it going Okay folks, gather round, bring marshmallows if you wish. Please will all those interested in the competition take a look HERE. There's some character ideas put up there, more to come in the next 48 hours regarding plot synopsis - your ideas and input are welcome there, though I can't promise I will be able to use all (or any, come to think of it) of them - really depends what's going on in my crazy mind at the time I sit down to work it out in detail. I have a few general themes down already, but don't really want to present them to you in their current state as, frankly, they'd make little sense to anyone but me, it's more a stream of consciousness than a proper plan. Anyway, I hope you're all quiverring in anticipation and all that good stuff. |

Okay folks, I've dumped a copy of the synopsis in that same back Alley we met in last time. Deadline for entries is 2359 mafia central time on January 11th - which will give the judges a weekend to read all the entries before making an announcement on the following Monday. Entries are to be pinned up here on THIS street corner for all to see please. I know, I know, that much work deserves it's own corner, but we don't want to be cluttering up the whole city with entries to this competition. Best of luck to everyone. |

Excuse me for being stupid but what is Noir? I thought it was the French for Christmas what is its other meaning? Film noir is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas. Would that be it? |

BanditKeith, read Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler, tell me if there is any other genre they fit in as comfortably as Noir authors. Sometimes the meaning of terms gets expanded through use and misuse, as has happened here. Happy to help. |
