| Is MafiaReturns.com Dead? | Started by: Spawn on Aug 15, '17 18:34 |
The fact that anyone believes it was an accident shows where the problem is. How do you accidentally copy someone else's anon code from a profile?? Your anon code is located in your bank not someone else's profile. Not like they have the same message up either, his was vastly different than hers so explain how an accident like that happens? Not to mention, the timing of it all. Somehow it conveniently, or "accidentally", shows up in his profile only a day or two after she had already sent him a very ooc mail asking that he leave her alone and stop randomly messaging her.
Yeah, that really sounds like an accident to me. Interesting to see the author of this thread get jailed for harassment. I guess we'll see the new policy get used now. |

I think something is wrong with the BGS/KILL part of the game and no I dont know how to fix it. But unless you have 10000 bgs and a 4k gun there is not much point in playing. But I still have the addiction. I wouldn't say its dead but it is not the same as it was yrs ago (partially due to me getting older I am sure). I have been playing for 15 yrs approx. |

I don't believe this game is dead or dying. I think that in times of pure stagnancy it can give the appearance of decline. In times of action and excitement it can feel lively and growing. In reality the game's userbase ebbs and flows pretty predictably over time. One thing I will remark upon is the BG/Wack system that's presently in place. I've said it many times over the years, and my arguments have become more visibly problematic in the frequent points heard:
In my opinion, these can be fixed and make conflict something more accessible to more people (in the same way that violence between Mafia families was). I believe that's worth pursuing, but I don't believe the game will die without such changes, nor is the game currently dying in their absence. Good discussion though. I think being constructively critical about the game is the first step towards making it more attractive to players. I've been gone a few months so I don't know what the state of the game's development is these days, but judging by the absence of the "new UI" I heard so much about it appears to have run into some snags. |

It's interesting to see from the graphs MR make available that the number of daily active users is near enough the same as it was this time in May. If anything, it has increased slightly. Now I appreciate that this is just one data set (etc. etc. etc.) but that would suggest that at worst MR is stagnating, and not 'dead'. |

3 years ago there were 1200 users on the page. ( https://mafiareturns.com/war/wackstats.php ) 2 weeks ago there were 600+. |

Alep why do you think our numbers are half of what once were? Let me get it straight out to you. It's because the rogues that have been more and more. Because of them innocent people died ( and don't reply with that BS of rogues are innocent too or God know's what). This is the pure truth, because of you rogues, the game is slowly dies. |

If that's so Alpe, it has nothing to do with the current regime. Don't get me wrong, if it were my site and those stats were correct, I'd be worried. Heck, if you're correct with those figures, I'm slightly worried as someone who has played on and off for a few years. However, I doubt a regime change would fix that. The reason for that decline is probably because the game has changed very little over time and regular players have gotten bored. It's great having regular customers but if they become too clique-like it can also be difficult to encourage new players to play. It can be intimidating. Before I played this game, I played a similar game called Dark Future. For all intents and purposes it was the same game as MR, with a few small differences (Russian Roulette for example!). However, they also had a forced reset. I can't remember the specifics, but it was something like if one member of the game had been at the top for three, uninterrupted months, a reset would be announced and triggered a month later. That person was declared the winner as it were. This reset was interesting because it largely stopped alliances. Why would you support someone else's attempt at winning? Now you could say that people are loyal to their city's and their city's alliances, but are they really? Most people playing this game have a group of friends they enjoy playing with, they make new friends along the way and lose old ones, but rarely do they care for fictional pacts. I'm not suggesting it's the way forward for MR. As a Las Vegas resident OOC I'm happy to admit, I'm in a great position, but those numbers should certainly be creating some conversation, if they're indeed correct. |

"It's great having regular customers but if they become too clique-like it can also be difficult to encourage new players to play. It can be intimidating." I took a small snippet from what you said, but I remember starting this game a year ago, compared to most people here today had started this game like a decade ago, and I never really felt like I was discluded. I am satisfied to say that I have made a lot of friends since then and learned the game to a proficient level. I can definitely see the concern though, some newer players might be intimidated easier or afraid to go out and message people, etc... |

I know 100% those numbers are about right (Give or take 100), I can blame the current regime, why? Each new regime brings new, old and different players back into the game. Some regimes a handful of people stop playing because of being bloodlined and other reasons, some others have more friends and people feel safer returning to MR. |

This has nothing to do with bloodlines? Don't you get it? It's just people getting mad they die early and can't progress. Why this is happening ? Because of some people so called "rogues" that try to create chaos and anarchy, so the upper structure takes actions and some have to die because of your greed and because you just can't accept the fact that the game has change a bit and it's not like the old days. This is the situation. Deal with it and stop crying for nothing, |

To quote myself from the other week when some other guy also wrongly tried to claim user numbers have significantly fallen:
Please link me to the point where we had 1200 users please, Alpe. |

Looks like the average time people put in per day has decreased by an hour over the last 3 years, 1/3 drop in activity. |
