| GAME CHANGE: The rising cost of keeping the cites safe. | Started by: Squishy on Aug 25, '17 21:25 |

Just reset the game, that way everyone gets a fair chance and those that no longer play will come back and have that one last shot to do something. Plus I imagine people paying for credits would go through the fucking roof. This way, we wouldn't have to go into rebuild mode every fortnight thanks to some cunts that take things way too far and bloodline (despite saying they dont) |

Today is another prime example of the issues which you have highlighted. I could shit here and talk about the facts but I am sure you already know. |

The point about it costing me $200,000 per new member was raised for realism. I even said that in the reply. What I meant by that point, as it is either being misunderstood or ignored, is that I find it unlikely the mob spent millions recruiting people to join them. Given that we are a mob simulation, why are we doing that? Surely there must be a more realistic means of achieving what we actually want; user retention. Alternatively, just ignore that point and use it to generalise if you prefer. I also didn't say I don't have the time to do the cold calling, I said I have better things to do with my time and I do; so do most other people who play this game, I'm sure. It certainly isn't the part of the game that motivates me to play as it is so unrewarding and I think, with some true diehards aside, the vast majority of people do not play this game to recruit less than 10% of the people they speak to (happy to be corrected on that point if I'm wrong) either. I've said before that maybe I'm just the biggest dick in this game, who is useless at recruiting and every user hates me and all the new ones think I have a stupid profile picture and an envy-inducing long neck so don't join me either. Fine, maybe so. But, I don't really think that is the case and I doubt you do either. I think it is probably a combination of factors, with the primary ones most likely being that most returning players use it to milk cash having already chosen a crew and most new players take the route of least resistance and join whoever gets an invite to them first. Neither of those things make it a very appealing task to engage in, yet if I don't mail everyone, the system says I'm doing it wrong. Crazy.
Firstly my crew is full, so the growth of my crew is not really an issue. Secondly, I have had a thread in my HQ since August 2nd which states:
Do you think this is incentive enough or do I need to be more explicit about the money I'm rewarding people with and how it'll benefit their prospects in the future? I personally think it is quite clear. If you truly want to change the game for the better, look into why these type of situations continue to recur because most of the problems we are experiencing now are not unique to this regime. The common theme is virtually always a regime/dictator figure who survives for a really long time and people become disenchanted as a result. This is not a new phenomenon, it has been repeating itself for as long as I can remember and it never changes because the game is setup to make this the most effective means of play. I and others, I'm sure, would gladly brainstorm ways to improve the game for the majority of users, but punitive measures that make the game less appealing to the users we do actually have is nonsensical. And, I assume you know this already, but nobody is intentionally keeping the game in rebuild mode. |

Just wanted to address this real quick. I know this. When I spoke with Disorder about why we had sponsorship coverage suddenly drop down to the 60/70s for a few days, he brought up this point, which kind of blindsided me, it didn't click up until then that it was a very real way to exploit a game mechanic to oppress those at the bottom. The feature was put in to ensure that it can never become an exploit in the future, not that its happening intentionally now. |

There was a post a while ago which I think hits the nail on the head of the mentality of a lot of our current and recently departed users:
I would love to hear some suggestions on how you restore hope to users who every day and every account lose the ambition to bother. |

The issue you're describing is a form of paradox. In order to shoot anyone of importance, you have to build. In order to build, you have to work for someone. At any given time, any single individual cannot build the necessary stats to threaten a real shot. So the logical answer (in my mind) would be to require that individual to recruit accomplices. That, the larger the force you assemble, the more you can divide up the necessary time to execute. However, the present BG/BG wack system only exacerbates the isolating terms of this paradox, as the value of any number of kills drops substantially when split among multiple shooters. One person with 1k kills can do damage, 2 people with 500 kills are a nuisance, and 5 people with 200 kills offer virtually no more threat to those at the top than 5 people with no kills. I believe the system should be revised to allow for cooperation among smaller guns. That way it gets much harder to find and kill everyone that isn't trusted, and you don't have to "exhaust your war chest" in order to make a serious play at the top, so long as you have enough friends. |

I have an idea although this might not be the right thread for it. Why not get rid of witness statements when shooting NPCs? Make it easier for people to build and hide the strength of their gun. Have only witness statements when players are shooting players or corrupt agents (since we pay for those out of credits which is basically like cash). Doesn't solve the problem of people then turning around and killing others every certain amount of days, but at least it's a small start. Or if we could find a way to have more bodyguards around that could be killed since those don't leave witness statements. Right now, unless there's a big Durden spawn, bodyguards are rare. And they go very quickly. People might be more likely to come back and have hope if they feel like they have a chance of slipping under the radar. The way things are right now, no one wants to try and build because building leaves witness statements and too many witness statements gets them killed. Or so the rumors say. |

Bloodlining is now the most common reason to kill people these days rather than actually legit game reasons. There is no motivation to get past that. MR is slowly losing playing characters no matter what people say. |

This method can work in the system we have now, people choose not to use it.
CL has 30 members. Each of these members is able to BG wave. 30 simultaneous waves nets 150~ dead bg's...
It's there. Use it. |

What about Toaly? Killed for killing Tetley when he was GF of Philadelphia, that was what? 2 or 3 years ago. Is that not bloodlining? That's the reason he was given. Am I wrong? |

You said bloodlining was the most common reason. My contention that is that it is not common at all and certainly not the most common reason. I would therefore like some evidence from you of how common it is and all the many, many people who have been bloodlined. So far, you have put forward Toaly and in response I give you all of the people who died yesterday as that was not related to bloodlines. Look forward to further figures from you. Also MR is not losing playing characters (at least not from the stats on the front page); people are just not buying credits/donating/investing as they were previously. |

Because you're all paranoid cunts that kill any and everyone for fun, therefore people don't want to play whilst you lot are around. The last run Curtis had it was exactly the same. This current regime is doing exactly what 303 were doing but much worse, what happened to them? They all got DD'd and banned with the exception of a small few that were still able to continue playing. I can't wait for the day Izzy turns around and DD's the lot of you, surely it can't be long now. I wonder, can you tell me the difference between this regime and 303's regime? |

"Unfortunately as time has gone on his propensity for housing returning family of rogues" i mean...this was in the take down speech. So whether true or not that bloodlining is occurring, the evidence is mounting strongly in its favor. This is certainly not alleviated by Disorders own words there. Granted I was just a wise guy in Admirals family...so I was not privy to the higher up discussions. Maybe they had definitive proof of tomfoolery and massive rogue plots from withing Admiral's family, but I doubt it. When the three people were shot down earlier in the week...two were inactive and Im pretty sure at least two didnt even have guns. Again, maybe they had real evidence...but I don't think so (please prove me wrong and I will retract). One of the fundamental principals of the game as far as I can recall was that the son/daughter was not punished for the sins of their parents. Now - I know this has always been a bizarre ideal...as grudges can and will persist. But - at least it was something that people at least pretended to adhere to. Also - this thread is now full on de-railed. sorry for contributing to that :P |

Lets not pull things out of context. Disorder was making a Star Wars joke in the opening line of Street speech. He then listed several other substantive (depending upon your perspective) reasons as to why he did what he did. I am happy to let anyone start over and create a new character. The problem is they don't. They start a new character exactly like their old character, which creates the current rogue bubble we have now. There is no reason for these individuals to setup at Wise Guy and shoot at Disorder et al, their motivations are OOC based. How then are we supposed to respond, just let them be about their business care-free so they can shoot us in the chops? |
