Cathy Parks stands under a street lamp and lights a cigarette. The New Year's festivities had died down and it was time to stop the celebrations and get back to work. Realising that her last speech on the topic she was about to broach had caused some ripples over in Chicago, there had been a hesitancy to continue that which she had promised the community some days ago. In spite of this, Cathy was determined to stay on course. She felt as though there was a lack of openness in The Streets it was either self-serving flattery or animosity as far as she was concerned. And she understood why. To speak your opinion, your own impressions in a sincere and honest manner could cause problems. In this thing of ours, respect was everything. Could someone tell the truth about their feelings and remain respectful? Cathy hoped so. "So last week I came out here and said that I wanted to share with anyone listening just exactly what my first impressions were of the current leaders and discussed in some depth how I felt about Oliver_McTavish and Badass Inc. Well this time I would like to speak on Mortay the leader in The Big Easy and of La Famiglia di Soldato." "Well my business dealings with Signore Moretay as a leader myself are in fact quite limited. We have not had the occasion to speak very often as our cities are indeed far from each other and most of our conversations take place on the telephone. However what I gathered from our conversations is that this man really loves being a leader. Not just likes, loves. This could possibly have something to do with the beautiful women he surrounds himself with (which I believe name themselves Moretay's Maidens), but I think it is more than that. "My uncle Rick and Moretay's father were very close. Indeed Moretay's father served as a right-hand to my uncle, although their working relationship was cut short when half of the world as we know it went to the mattresses. Even all that time ago, it was apparent that the potential for Moretay's bloodline was indeed very great. So when he first put on that bold suit, it did not come as a surprise to me at all. I was extremely happy to see Moretay get his chance. "Has he lived up to that potential that I have just described? My honest impression of him both personally and how he presents himself in public is that he hasn't just yet. "What has most impressed me though are two things: 1) His push to improve the New Orleans bar strip. 2) The fact that he makes such a large effort within his headquarters. "I took a trip to the Big Easy a few days ago and their bar scene is not just good, it's flourishing. His family are luring in further visitors with the promise of honing skills like jailbreaking and then inviting those present to visit their businesses. If I were to model Philadelphia on what Moretay is trying to do for New Orleans, I couldn't go far wrong. "With regards to his Family and his Head Quarters, I have not heard a single member of La Famiglia Soldato speak against him. Indeed, all I seem to be hearing about the man is praise and more praise. And it seems to be to be a family that genuinely respect and care for their leader. "So it is apparent to me at first impression that Moretay is steadily growing into a great leader and one that could really go far. But, and this cannot go without being mentioned, I would certainly like to see him in the Streets more. I'm not talking about doing it just for the sake of it, but to bring his enthusiasm as a leader and presence from the coffeeshops to a forum where people other than his family get to hear him speak. "I would not use the word mute - that is far too extreme and there are others who speak far less in The Streets than Moretay does. Equally, I know that some people will come here and say "quality over quantity" and "we're tired of generic topics" and so on. But for me personally, a great leader isn't one who works solely from the confines of their Head Quarters. A great leader is one whose presence helps to improve all of the cities, not just his own. "Thinking over what I have just said, I wonder if my expectations of the man are too high. But then I think why shouldn't they be? I believe he has it in him to be an incredible leader and if he can manage to improve his presence, then certainly he'll be the one to watch." |

Stumbling along in what could only be described as NOT a straight line, Goosington hauls himself up against a lamp post to regain a modicum of composure. Cautiously testing his balance, he thinks better if the situation and pulls up an overturned milk crate, one of the sort that veritably appear to be littering our public highways these days. Exhaling loudly, he firmly places his backside upon it, and gathers his thoughts. All these boxes everywhere. It's a miracle there aren't more accidents on these roads really. Someone ought to clean up the detritus from time to time. Returning to the point at hand, I agree wholeheartedly with you Ms Parks. I must confess I know little of Moretay and his kin other than the snippets I occasionally overhear when nursing a steaming cup of water filtered through beans. I too would like to hear more oratory on his part, but I also understand that he his highly active in his crew. However, since I do not have the pleasure of hearing what goes on behind closed doors in New Orleans, I must form an opinion of the fellow based upon when I do happen upon him elsewhere. Which I believe is the point you were making in the first place. From the little I have seen, of the people he has surrounded himself with I have yet to hear a bad word spoken against him. So unless I get to know the chap better, this is what I must base my feelings of him upon in the meantime. Now if you will excuse me, I have to go see a man about a dog. He tips his hat and struts away on shaky legs, with just the slightest hint of a sway to his gait. |
