Let me start by saying, I'm not an expert on Role-play, but I do know there are a fair amount of you reaching out to me for help and with questions so... I thought I'd draw on something we use to do in other Role-Play communities I've been a part of.  On other Role-Play (RP) websites I've been to, there were typically some kind of classes held to teach some basics of RP to those who always wanted to try it but never felt safe doing so.  The classes allow for a safe environment where everyone is new and if mistakes are made, you don't need to feel bad because the point is to learn a new skill.

The classes work like this - 

• There are a series of threads posted, one for each topic being taught in the 'class' - I try to keep all classes 5-10 lessons each.
• Generally this is done on In Character (IC) boards as all 'homework' is written by students as if they were taking a class from an older/ranking member of the community's premise (in this case, if I was teaching, I'd be teaching newer/younger gangsters about our way of life and how things work, or older ones wanting to brush up on some skills with a co-worker/friend.  It would allow for you to meet my character and get to know her as a teacher/mentor/friend)
• Generally if students do their homework correctly within the allotted time they are tipped for their posts or given some sort of IC reward.  If something is wrong with the homework, the teacher will advise and give help so that the concept is learned by the student.

• 1930s Setting & Concepts
• Character Creation & Plot Seeds 
• Character Exposition Posts (Writing Stories to Share aka Blogging for your Character)
• Basics of Businesses & Free Form RP (How to & How to Get Others To Join You!)
• Planning a Long Term RP

Would this happen more than once?

• YES!  So even if you're too nervous to be in the first class, I'd likely host this class twice a year (more if it should ever become necessary) the lessons would remain the same and anyone on the site would be welcome to use the class format to host a class of their own (should I not be around to do it.)  With every person who uses the lessons I bet the class would evolve and improve becoming something informative and fun for all.
