Lucy enters the office. "You asked to see me?" She closes the door behind her. |

Cesare was uncharacteristically tense as Lucy entered the office. His eyes gave off the feeling of studying a poker player, looking for a tell. His elbows were resting on his desk with his hands clasped, "Take a seat, Lucy..." As she moved further into the room, there was an obvious silence. No casual shifting of clothing or furniture came from Cesare. He was only ever protective of a couple things in his life. Furiously protective. Now one of those things had been placed in jeopardy knowingly or through some blind stupidity. When Lucy had seated herself, Cesare pushed an already filled glass of whiskey with his finger towards her. "Lucy, do you have any idea why I wanted to talk to you?" |

Lucy thinks about it for a moment and sighs with a smile. "Of course. It was only a little nudge. I told her that if she wanted I'd be happy to point you in the direction of things that would make her happy." She shrugs. "I was trying to be a good friend but I swear I didn't say a word about the... you know. I wouldn't ruin your surprise. Rest assured everything is fine for that still." |

Cesare was nearly dumbfounded at her reply. Could she seriously think this was still about the trip? For a moment his eyes grew intense. Then he pushed himself away from the desk and leaned down to retrieve something on the floor. He straightened up and placed a box on the table. The bottom of the box was beginning to show the signs of drying blood seeping through the cardboard. He studied her face as she took notice of it, hoping to see some spark of familiarity. Then he reached into his jacked pocket and produced a note and slid the paper across the table, watching her closely as she confusedly grasped for it with her fingers:
Signor Toretta and Don Swango,
As she looked up from the note Cesare dumped the contents of the box on the desk, scattering severed toes across the wood surface. His voice was growing rough and raised now, "Do you want to try to explain this to me Lucy?! Why THE FUCK am I getting threats from Tyler fucking Durden?!" |

The box makes little noise when it connects with the table. The red on the bottom is tell-tale. Instantly her heart begins to race and her eyes widen. She begins breathing through her mouth, blinking more than normal, looking around the room she makes note of who is there. "Didn't think we'd left for good, did you?" Her hallucination of Husky offered. A hallucination of Varga stepped into her line of sight. "You're in trouble Lucy. Big trouble." She looked back to box and reached out for the letter with a trembling hand. She reads it silently. Cesare dumped the contents of the box all over the table and tears welled up in her eyes and her mouth fell open in an attempt to contain the bile that was rising in her throat. "Do you want to try to explain this to me Lucy?! Why THE FUCK am I getting threats from Tyler fucking Durden?!" Lucy winced at Cesare's tone and put her clenched fist to her mouth trying desperately to contain herself. "Old man..." She swallowed and cleared her thoat, avoding looking at the toes of what she knew HAD to be Tommy Malone her childhood friend and blood brother. "Gregory Whitehill, he leads a southside gang under Billy Durden." She managed to say, less composed than she wanted, still trying not to look at the gore laid out on the table. "He... raised me... found out just before Philly - he killed my parents. I hadn't moved on him yet... I was just talking with old friends." The last word made her voice crackle with anguish held tight to her chest. "Breathe Lucy." Arya's 'ghost' reconciled behind her. "He's not your enemy - he's just afraid, like you. Keep it together. You're Consigliere." "It's my fault this time." She muttered to Arya, though Cesare might be confused as to whom she spoke. "I've put them in danger." |

Cesare wasn't quite sure who she was referring to, though whatever she'd done had undoubtedly put the entire crew in the crosshairs. He was completely in the dark about what this was about or who it was being pieced apart. She was playing a dangerous game working like this by herself and she'd nearly gotten he and Nikki blown into oblivion. "I'll say!" he started in mistaken response to her mutterings, "Nikki could've been blown apart the second she opened this! All because you've got some vendetta you've got to pursue!" He stood abruptly, fuming as he went, "What were you thinking?!" he was nearly screaming as he sent a glass full of whiskey careening across the room and shattering against the far wall causing Ricardo to poke his head into the door to make sure everything was okay. Cesare waved him away and walked out from the desk towards the window behind him, trying with everything in him to calm down. However much of a friend Lucy was to Nikki and himself, she'd been incredibly careless. Still, he was trying carefully not to lose his cool. He ran a hand over his head to smooth his hair and lit himself a cigarette. He was sorry for whatever bastard was going to have to take on this mess when he and Nikki were gone... |

Lucy closed her eyes and tried to slow her breathing. "I should have told Nikki right when I arrived... I should have told her that I knew things that made me a liability to Durden. I knew a was a loose end, someone who'd left a literal mark on the local Durden family - I never dreamed they'd make a move like this. It's bold and sloppy and stupid." She said with a large amount of nerves in her voice. She wanted a drink so bad. "Clearly... I have underestimated how much I've pissed them off in the past." She looked back at the toes on the desk. Her lips quivered and she pressed them together tight to make it stop. She couldn't mourn. Not here. Not now. "I won't move my hand against them." She says softly. "I'll be as quiet as church mouse on Sunday. This has to be saber rattling... Durden wouldn't have hurt Nikki like that, surly he wouldn't. He'd wouldn't risk the Godfather coming down on him like the wrath of heaven itself." She thinks about her options. She thinks about all those at risk. She wonders if Tommy told about Cinderella. "If I disappear... go silent... maybe everything goes back to normal. That's all he wants. He wants me to shut up and live in silence with my ghosts - I can do that. I've done it this long. It's a small thing to keep my family safe. I can leave town a while. Till the heat dies down. Go back to Vegas if I gotta." |

"No..." Cesare started, much more calm now. He was piecing together empathy. They'd all lost people. "We need you to stick around," he said, turning back around to her, "the crew is going to be experiencing a lot of change here in the next couple hours and we are going to need to stay close. Nikki's getting out from behind the desk like she talked about, and in all likelihood that means I'm out too." He slumped back into the chair and took a drag off his cigarette, "That means this business with Durden is going to have to be taken up with whoever the Godfather puts over us next." He rubbed his hand with his face. "Just...be careful, Fazzone. Nikki knows you well enough to know you didn't mean for this to happen, and she knew at least a little about what we were getting into bringing you to us, but whoever comes next...?" he trailed off leaving the implications to settle. Silence crept back into the office. Cesare knew Durden wouldn't go any further than this without being provoked. He poured another glass and slid it towards Lucy. |

Lucy takes the glass, her hand trembling still. "Tommy Malone." She said softly. "His name was Tommy Malone." She nods to the toes. "Got my first kiss from him running papers on the loop. He was with me when I buried my parents." She takes a drink. "How they found out about him - maybe they just guessed." She almost hugs the glass. "Maybe someone sold you out." Varga's ghost offered. "No one sold me out." she muttered. "He's crazy enough to have dug up a dead's journal and fallen in love with you based on that guy's word alone. Sounds like the kind of insane that does shit like that." Ayra proposed. "He doesn't love me." She replies to the halucination softly, staring into her glass. "Really? Why did he bring up Sicily if he doesn't love you?" Husky's ghost asked, coming to kneel down at her side. His hand so near to her own she thought perhaps she could touch it. All musings that this wasn't real, gone in the moment. "I don't know..." She shook her head. "I... hadn't thought... it doesn't make sense that he said it. But he wouldn't betray me..." "Why?" Arya asked, but it was Lucy's voice that continued to speak for all sides of the conversation in her mind out loud. The conversation was now "two" sided so that Cesare could hear. The derangement of this woman was there (like all derangement) to protect the mind; Lucy's illness was clearly walking her through the how and why this had occurred - keeping her from shattering further. In time she might come to accept that all of this was her own mind... but in the moment, she saw the faces of the dead and spoke in tones that mimicked their own seeming to forget that Cesare was there at all. "What would he gain? No one turns traitor on family without significant gain." Lucy said in her own voice. "So it was luck - you're going with the suggestion that Tyler Durden found out about all of this because he got lucky?" Arya's tone was condescending. "You're smarter than this Lucy." Lucy swallowed, something of awareness coming back to her eyes. "We left someone alive in Enna." "The boy." Lucy said in Varga's fatherly tone. "Pietro." Lucy said, realization lighting up her face. She looks up to Cesare seeming to remember him, seeming to think he never heard anything she said. Seeming to think that it had all happened in her own mind. Her face is calmer, the ghosts - silent. The puzzle solved she looks like a woman planning her next step. |

Cesare watched her as she sat in the chair and turned side to side speaking in different voices as if it was all some game. After a moment he knew something was wrong but couldn't bring himself to stop watching what was happening. Eventually she stopped the conversation with herself long enough to look back at him. "Lucy, what the hell was that? Are you feeling alright?" It was bizarre. As if she'd just had a committee meeting with herself... |

Lucy wet her lips. She'd done it again. Like last night she'd talked to them... and now someone else had heard her. There was nothing for it. She had to be honest, it was the one thing Cesare thought he knew best about her and she couldn't take that away or she'd lose all capital she had in their friendship. "I've been trying not to make a big deal about it... but sometimes when I'm upset... or afraid... I..." She drew a breath, she was about to admit she was crazy. How could she not expect him to strip her of rank for that? "I still talk to my old crew." She looks at them in the room. "It helps me calm down to talk things over with them. Most of the time they're in my head... no one else but you and Frank seems to know. And, if it's all the same to you, I'd like to keep it that way. People might ... think things about me if they knew I talked to dead folks, ya know?" |

He knew that the takedown in Philadelphia had been hard on her, but he never imagined that she was carrying the ghosts of a crew in her head. If this was anyone he may have had them committed, but the way he saw it, it was soon to be someone else's problem. Still he couldn't help but worry about her state of mind... "Lucy, listen to me." he said with the tone of a caring authoritarian, "You should take some time to get your head straight. Spend some time with Frank, take a weekend away from the HQ and clear your mind. I'll keep what I just saw between us for now, but if it comes back to harm the crew in any way... I'll have to speak up. Understand?" He hoped with everything that she'd take his advice and come back twice as capable. There would be a time to go after Durden... but it wasn't now and especially not in her state of mind. He looked down at the bits of flesh on his desk, "Tommy Malone is it? I'm sure he was a good man. Deserved better than he got..." he delicately replaced the pieces back in the box, "If it means anything to you, you can take this." he said motioning towards the box, "A man deserves to be mourned." |

Lucy let a tear slip down her cheek but wiped it quickly. "His cousin, my head bodyguard, he'll be real appreciative of you giving him back to me. And um... any other parts that might arrive. He was Catholic. They'll want to put him in the family plot near his wife." She stands up. "And was good, the best brother anyone could have wanted for. You'll... let me know if any more of him arrives?" Assuming Cesare says yes, she will carefully take the box and say, "I'll do as you ask. Don't worry, I won't let you down. I'll get this under control. I swear it." |
