Mos Def... GAY! 2pac or Biggie, Biggie because all the shit he had to go through to get to where he got too, 2pac because his poetry was amazing (rap is poetry, but his real poetry that was turned into a song after he passed) and he fought for black rights.

Really, if you feel that strongly about it, I'd be interested to hear a more intelligible criticism of his work.  I like Mos Def's dirty, raw, New York style.  He doesn't use all the flash and phoniness of most other rappers.  He doesn't try to pretend to be someone he is not. (Tupac went to a high school for the performing arts, for fucks sake.  He wore fucking ballet shoes. How 'gangsta' is that?)

If you read Def's lyrics, you will also see a mixture of intelligently written poetry with a civil rights agenda - two of the reasons you claim to like Tupac.

If you have a better criticism of Mos Def than "Gay!", I'd like to hear it.  If not, give his stuff another chance. You might like it.

Alright you caught me, here's my real criticism his stuff was good, 2002 he hit his peak, his newer albums/songs don't have that spark that his old stuff did, in 20 years I'll remember him as an actor rather then an MC. Again I did like his old stuff, but honestly can you say to me with a straight face that his new stuff will be as good as his old stuff.

2Pac he had enough material for 100 more albums, he was taken way before his time, 5 albums at the age of 25/26 (correct me there) he had spoken a lot about the mistreatment of his brothers as well as help me through a lot of hard times with his songs. I'd like to see Mos Def reach a whole generation...

So that's my critism for Mos Def, again I never said i liked Pac more the Nas & Eminem, who are much better lyricallist then anyone who was and anyone who ever will be.

I prefer East Coast/NY rap to West Coast or Southern rap. Some rappers are better songwriters than freestylers. I tend to think Freestyle rap takes a lot more talent. I named this account after one of my favorite rappers actually. He is one half of NYC rap duo Heltah Skeltah along with Sean Price (Ruckus). Those guys flow off each other really well together and their albums keep getting better and better.
