Ok so I'm here I havent been able to get to these streets as often as i would have liked due to unforseen circumastances but I would like to come and talk about something which has been troubling me recently. It appears to me there is a wave of greed running through some mafioso around here. I have heard of stories of low ranked gangsters and people who have not done anything of note asking for loans to hire bodyguards or saying they are saving up for a bodyguard instead of donating the cash to their bosses. Now maybe it was they way I was taught. but my father and peers always told me that you should donate your cash to the boss for these sorts of things to help protect the family. Then if he/she sees you fit and important enough to have a bodyguard then they will let you know and help you out. after all, I'm not sure why on earth a new person would want a bodyguard for anyways. Either they are extremely paranoid or they just want a big man to tuck them up in bed at night. There is at least one family line around here whos parents must have instilled it and passed it down that there is nothing more important than hiring as many bodyguards as possible but then that persons family line keeps dying so what does it achieve in the end? Like I say maybe its just me and my ways. But if this is the way that people are thinking now then I for one, am disappointed. Moretay steps back allowing more people to give there opinions on the subject |

| Those are some very good points and I too were raised the way you were. I agree with what you have said on the subject it doesn't make sense to ask for loans for bodyguards when you have a family and that family is supposed to protect you. It seems that people are looking out for themselves instead of their families and that to me is wrong | |

I agree with this quite a lot, actually. Family first. Now, I'm the first to admit I don't donate as much as I should, I have businesses to take care of, but just because I don't donate money, I do step up and donate time whenever possible. I work for the donations that I don't make. That being said, if you're one that wishes to request a loan for a bodyguard, wait. Don't request just yet. Talk to the boss. Ask for a job, something to dedicate your time to, ask your boss to give you something that will make you a valued member of your family. That is the way to get, and stay, in good favor, and in good favor is where you want to be, because it's those that are there that the boss will wish to protect first, because the boss knows that those are the people whom are going to step up and get the job done. |

The Captain agrees with you to a point, Mr. Moretay. The family should come first, donate to your boss before buying yourself bodyguards. But...let's be honest...don't we all REALLY look out for ourselves anyway? I mean sure, most of us do a lot of stuff for our families, and we all say we put our family before ourself, but do we really? When we do things for the family...do we not expect something in return? We move up in status by doing things for our family. And the higher in status we move up, the more we feel we need to protect ourselves, hence the bodyguards. One more thing, logically, the more bodyguards we have, the safer we should be. (although I guess that would make us a bigger target, but I don't feel like getting into that one right now) The longer we live for, the more we can do for our family. So by looking out for ourselves...are we not actually, also looking out for our family? |

| I would have to agree with you. I never quite understood why one would need so much protection, when only a gangster. Isn't that one of the perks of family life, protection? It seems rather selfish to hoard all your money for yourself, and not help out the family. A leader is kind enough to provide you shelter, and anything else you need. And you repay them by showing a lack of respect and generosity for their help? Things have changed in this place of ours. We need to instill better values into our young mafioso. | |

Then, on the other hand you have people who give their all, do everything they can for their boss and don't question it. They don't always know what is happening around them because they are not "made" or ranked high enough to get that type of information. Their life is basically to make money for the boss, be a cash cow and never question anything. Should something happen to their leader they are left out there in the cold world all alone. They were not selfish, They gave, They never asked questions, they played their role and in the end... They are sent to the slaughter house, where all good cash cows go. Is it selfish to protect yourself while trying to help your family out? NO, It is not. Afterall, what has your boss done to insure your safety in the event of his untimely death? Would it not benefit the family to have members that are also protected? Who will the boss lead when everyone else is killed? Should you give to the Boss? Yes, Yes you should. Should you walk around in rags and smoke cigarette butts off the street while the Boss wears designer clothes and smokes the finest cigars? That is your call, but either way, it doesnt make you a bad person. Now when the Boss spends all of your hard earned money buying bodyguards for their closest friends and sex partners do you draw a line there? Are you working to protect everyone but yourself? Do you even have a purpose other than building him or her up? Is there a line..really? It's not all black and white. |

I have always thought protecting the Boss with Bodyguards was the best thing to do. Why not give something back to the person that has protected you along your way to success. But where does the line stop? Taxing is a great way to get money from your members. And in this day and time "kick ups" are now called Donations. Donations are supposed to be given freely. They are Donations. You are not obliged to give them. During Church when they pass the Donation Bowl around, I give cash when I feel the need. If I don't agree with the sermon at the time, I'm not going to donate so he can do it again next Sunday. Another analogy that might be taken into consideration is the Pimp and Ho situation. The Pimps being the Bosses and the Hoes being everybody else. The Hoes are taxed and then are usually expected to kick up. By looking at what the Ho brings in (Earnings), the Pimp knows how much to expect from his Ho. As we are Hoes working the street, I can see and the feel the reason why to protect yourself. The usual condom just doesn't do the trick anymore so the need of Bodyguards are high. MikeHunt lays down his pimp hand and yells out... "Bitch better have my money! He quickly realizes he isn't a pimp and goes back to work. |

My family tree goes back quite a ways in this world. In that time, my ancestors have worked for good leaders and bad leaders alike. Most of my relatives were hard working earners and thusly have had some extra cash stored away from time to time. Now, most of the time, they would kick it up. In fact, even now, I like kicking my extra cash up to the Boss, but, it's because I think she is a good leader. But why should I kick my money up to just any leader? Sure, most will say this protects the family, but does it? Just because a leader gets a ton of cash and stacks themselves up with loads of bodyguards, doesn't mean they'll keep me safe. In fact, there've been times when my ancestors have donated millions of dollars, just to watch the leaders personal, coffeeshop friends taken care of, even if they haven't worked as hard as my family. So, I believe that donating should always remain optional. If you want to, by all means, do it. If you feel as though you're nothing but a breathing, pettying, earning member of something you don't agree with or believe in, then take care of number one. Afterall, let's face it, oftentimes, you're the only one that can and will take care of yourself. |

| I totaly agree with you here, you only need a bodyguard if you are say the head of a family or RHM, there is no need for someone such as myself to have a bodyguard. I think of it as as soon as you have $150,000 that is when you start to donate. | |

Bodyguards are needed for numerous people. Not just the Boss and his number 2. Who are the first to die in any conflict? The hitters are. The guys known to be killers. They are the ones who need protection too, more than anyone else in my eyes. After the Boss of course. They're the ones who put their lives on the line for us to survive. Since they always put it out on the line, they should be protected by bodyguards. |

Cathy Parks had been listening to the ensuing conversation from quite some time, her hands clasping a hot cup of coffee. She notices some good points as she sips the hot liquid, and steps closer to await her turn to speak. When there is a lull in the conversation she goes to stand by Moretay. "I think with regards to ideas of greed amongst our community as well as 'self-serving' behaviour I think it's really a two-way street. Which I will explain. "First off, for people coming into this world fresh off the boat demanding money for protection, well I have little to no time for those people. The key word is demanding though. If their mother or father had done a great service for my family in particular, I wouldn't hesitate to add some men to keep their next of kin safe. Those who are unknowns demanding positions and/or money, I wouldn't even have in my Family. I don't think I need to say anything further on the matter. "Next we have donating and 'self-serving' behaviour which was mentioned. Now this is where we come into grey areas as -VALA- pointed out, because I believe it is as much the Leader's input as the members'. "We've all been at the bottom of the ladder before. My family line has many times been in that position and from what they told me, it's really fumble in the dark as to whether you make the correct choice for a leader. Maybe you know one of the leaders vaguely? Maybe your parents were good friends with them? Those instances do happen, but on most occasions you go into a family with blind faith that from your initial conversation with them or a talk with someone they employ, that you will have made the right choice. "Plainly there are times when the situation may not be suited to you, but it's very hard to complain. The only way out of families in the majority of cases is in a body bag, via a promotion with a newly authed Leader, or by going rogue. The first and third options aren't exactly choice circumstances and the second is rare. "If you find yourself in an unbecoming position, should you donate? Should give your all for the Family? I think even the best of us would struggle to do that. Therefore many do hold onto their money, and I would find it hard to blame them. You can argue that their leader has given them shelter and protected them, but it does seem understandable as to why people would hesitate to give away their earnings to someone who would kill them if they dared to breathe that they wanted to leave and whom they do not respect. "Certainly, those instances I gave as examples are in the minority. The majority of people do kick up cash to their boss, putting faith that what they earn is going for the benefit of the family. That trust is something that every leader wishes to have from the people they sponsor. "Obviously, if someone seems happy enough and then is not willing to part with the cash, there are some questions to be asked - and I do believe that to be 'self-serving' behaviour. "Which brings me to the viewpoint of the Leader - me being one making this matter a bit easier to talk on. I have a group of people in my employ and I can choose to take an enforced cut of their earnings and the members have no say about it. If I'm doing that, it makes me money certainly, but it shows absolutely no faith in my members. The alternative is to lower the taxes to the point where I take practically nothing from their earnings, which some might consider it to be folly, but I believe it shows trust. "I lower the taxes so that people can spend that money on training, on improving themselves and then trust that they will take the initiative and donate also. However, again it is not quite so clear cut. Obviously there are many ways you can prove to be valuable to the Family. Only one of those ways is by kicking up cash, donations. Equally, I can look at the contribution a member has put into the Family. Are they working hard with businesses? If they are a hitter, are they training well? Are they active in talking to other members and in the Head Quarters? "So for me as a leader, there are many factors that come into play with regards to contributing and 'self-serving' behaviour. With each individual I question whether they giving their all for the family in terms of those activities I previously described. But at the same time, I personally ask myself, am I doing enough to warrant it. "Yes, I am in a position of power. Yes, I have influence on the lives of a good proportion of this community. But that is still no reason for me to think I am excused somehow and may leech off every member of the Family for my own personal gain. "So if there are those holding onto cash, those just sitting and doing nothing, my first instinct is to not assume they are only looking out for themselves. I need to look at all the angles, and hope that by doing so, it does make me a better Leader. If after that I feel as though it is the member who is being 'greedy' then I can choose not to promote them." |

Most humans have a need for material items. Something to spend thier money on. Most humans want to see something at the end of all thier hard work. For a teenager this might be buying himself a pair of shoes with his first weeks wages, he will allways remember these shoes. For other it might be to buy one of those impressive automobiles. Fact is some people just want to feel they are making progress, that they are being successfull. Some spend money on needless things. Buying a BG before Wise Guy could be seen as senseless. But in doing so they save money. So people want to buy BG;s simpily because they can, its much the same as reaching a new rank for somepeople. Saving money is the name of the game? If this is the case, saving for you boss is logical, but for the over ambitous so is buying a BG at gangster. For they will in fact save a lot of money. All that said, with out a strong Boss, what future do we have? Sure surviving in a familiy has become a lottery anyway. With the occasional war and half hazzard rogue. Sometime people feel like pawns part of a larger plan, we make up the numbers. Meh i babbling Give money to your boss, when your boss is solid then you can indulge in yourself. I think .... |
