For thoses of us who have just died, but don't have the time to set up and play a new account, I think it's reasonable on the login page where chat is an option, to also have mibbit/ ajax chat as an option. To be able to get on MIRC, and still have what small communication with friends as they can.

Just a convienc factor, I would deffinatly appricaite at this time, and Im sure would come in use to others through out time.

You could always go to the mibbit site and select Jaundies from their list of servers directly or use a client such as mIRC, IceChat, or X-Chat to access the network.

Also... There is a chat tab on the home page.

Yes I know there is a chat tab. But mirc was brought into the game for users that don't have java.

Report Post Tip

you dont have to have a game account to use MIRC

I think he's looking for a link to the Ajax chat rather than the Java chat applet. I think your best bet would be to download Mirc unless admin want to code in the ajax chat onto the chat link on the title page. Alternatively you could just use java...

?Lol. For users that don't have Java? >.> Java is about a 5 minute download, tops. Much quicker on faster connections. It's easy to setup and easy to use. Works with pretty much every browser. Plus, there are a massive amount of irc clients that you can get. XChat, IceChat Mirc are just the main few on my mind at present. If you are a Linux user, there are even more options to choose from. Having the coders change something so small is ridiculous and a waste of their time.

Actually, I don't think this idea is ridiculous at all. I'll explain:

  • For one, an AJAX system like mibbit is more accessible to those who might not have full control of the PC they are playing on. For example, many office or school computers will not allow JAVA applets to run for security reasons while they generally have no problems with mibbit.
  • Secondly, if I'm new to the game, want to find out what the community is like and hit "chat" and it instantly starts asking me permission to use a JAVA program I'm going to probably going to give it a miss. I don't know the game yet, I therefore don't trust the site, so let it launch an applet? I think not!
  • Thirdly, to address tiggys point; If I'm new to the game (and/or maybe not that technically minded) I have no idea that the MR community resides on the Jaundies network, or that sites like mibbit even exist. To be frank, I probably have no idea what IRC is either. So to suggest they just do it manually is unrealistic.
  • Lastly, to address the point of "just download a client like mIRC or XChat". For the reasons I gave in point 1 the user may not be able to download a client, and for the reasons given in point 3 the user may not understand the process of downloading, installing and configuring an IRC client. The aim should be to make every aspect of the game as accessible as possible, to that end this suggestion is not helpful.

For the reasons I've just given I give this idea my whole hearted support, not to mention that the code needed to change this would be minimal.

As for "not knowing how", there is a nice tutorial floating around about how to use irc and set it up to connect to the Jaundies network. >.>

However, I do see your point, some people aren't on their home computers and can't willingly download a program.

Meh.
