And it all comes back to this. Started by: Sairia_Shalai on Nov 09, '17 14:16
As her feet touched down in Chicago, Sairia felt a myriad of differing feelings. On the one hand, she felt a knot loosen in her chest. True enough, this was not where her humble beginnings too place, but it was where she started her own walk in this thing of theirs. Now she would never speak ill of the dead, but she wasn't certain about their move to Detroit. Had it been because they were friends with those that had risen to power? One could easily debunk that idea. They had not found favor in their eyes. Instead the last few days had been hell on Earth. Sairia was no stranger to this. Her aunt Kenzi had lived through a number of these things, with young Sairia hanging onto her coat tails.

But now it was her turn to make this work. Her first instinct was to put some distance between herself and the carnage. There was nothing more she could do for them and no one seemed eager to hunt down a lowly wise guy, so she managed to escape. Oh how she wished she had paid more attention to who her aunt spoke of in the past. But one name did stand out in her memory. A young man by the name of Darkee. Her aunt had played handball with him a number of times and was one of the few that she had said can be trusted. He was a good man, she had said. And so it was that she packed her few belongings and flew to Chicago... Back again and back home. One could only hope this new road led her well as she found Darkee and by extension, a new family and a new home.

Walking down the streets of Chicago, completely lost in thought, she was oblivious to the footsteps approaching. Thankfully her single bodyguard was not.

The footsteps got louder and louder before stopping directly in front of Sairia, if it wasn't for her bodyguard who stuck an arm out to stop her she would have walked straight into the man who was approaching her. Duffy, a short and stocky Irish man who's built like a brick shithouse stands infront of Sairia and her bodyguard, he sizes the pair up and lets out a slight grunt. He wasn't displeased at the sight of the two but more displeased that it was him who was sent to do the job. Without speaking Duffy pulls a sealed envelope from his inner jacket pocket and hands it out to Sairia's bodyguard, giving him enough time to open it and read what's written on the piece of paper inside.

"We do not know each other very well but I'm sure you've heard of me once before, an unexpected turn of events has lead you to Chicago from what I've been told and it would be quite rude for me to not invite you to one of our fine establishments to help you get settled in. I'll be waiting for you at the Broadway in Chicago, you can either find your own way there or my most trusted bodyguard can drive you.

- Darkee"

Duffy adjusts his slacks and turns away from the pair, making his way over to the car parked further down the street. He opens the back door and peers back at Sairia and her bodyguard as he awaits their response.

"Don't even know what to expect when we get to Chicago... Running off on half a whim... I swear you're just like your mother and aunt put together..." This string of malcontented ramblings came from just to the right of the young, petite fiery haired lady. Sairias eyes snapped to her bodyguard.

"It will turn out ok Grayson..." She murmured softly but with a hardness to her tone. Grayson's eyes softened considerably before speaking again.

"They both used to say that too... And usually they were right. But it only takes once for them to be wrong."

Sairia nodded quietly as she took in his wisdom. She had come to respect and take seriously the wisdom that Grayson had to offer.

"Come now, I only decided we should flee the place where our last family perished only to fly way across the United States on the hope that we'd run into some person that I only know of from Aunt Kenzi talking about him... I know. Worst mafioso ever." She shot him a wry grin and he ruffled her hair playfully before sniping back. "S'ok. We'll make a mobster out of you yet." Sairia wrinkled her nose and shoved his hand off as they continued to walk side by side. Just then, out of no where, Grayson's arm swung out and fairly solidly thunked into Sairias chest, stopping her cold. She cringed, reeling a tad.

"Grayson!" She looked up, rubbing her sternum. As she looked up her eyes met with those of the man she likely would have plowed right into. She gave him a light, but apologetic smile. "Oh my! I'm sorry about that... Should have been watching where I was going better..." But the man didn't seem too interested in her apology. Instead he was handing them a note. Grayson took it warily before reading it over quickly. Sairia managed to catch a glimpse of the paper, namely the signature on the bottom. "Darkee.. " she whispered before noticing that this rather irritable looking man now held the back door of his car open. Well you didn't have to tell Sairia twice! She headed right toward the car, only to have her arm lightly snagged be Grayson. He didn't pull her or grab hard, but his meaning was clear.

"Miss Sairia will honor the request, but I wish to drive her myself. Thank you." Grayson would remain respectful as was expected, but he left no room for argument. Sairia nodded, taking a step back to stand nearer to Grayson nodding as if that was what she planned all along.

One could easily wonder how Grayson still stood when they saw how rash and headstrong his charges could be. But he headed down the street once it seemed to be acceptable to do so. Once he was out of earshot of the other man, he glanced to Sairia, who was lost in her own thoughts. They were on the road. Kenzi had said family was everything. Being without a family was not an option. "I don't like it, Sairia."

"I know, Grayson..."

Duffy closes the door after seeing Grayson's response to the offer, he shakes his head and gets into the car before peeling away from the sidewalk. He left Grayson and Sairia on the side of the road with no actual address or instructions on how to get to the theater and now there was a good chance they would be late to the meeting. Duffy didn't mind though since he had taken a disliking to Grayson since seeing him for the first time at the handball courts back in the slums a few months earlier.

Chicago was a big city but the theater was a well known establishment so surely the pair would be able to find their way there in a timely fashion and wouldn't leave Darkee waiting for too long... Maybe that was wishful thinking though.
