The Birth of a Freak Started by: Toadette on Nov 14, '17 03:09

When Toadette’s parents learned they were expecting a child, they were nothing short of thrilled. Already the parents to a little boy, they longed to have another child and continue to grow their family. Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, party of four. But they struggled for years to conceive, a problem with no easy solution, and there seemed to be no hope to giving their precious little angel a sibling to grow up with.

Nine happy months passed, with Toadette’s parents sparing no expense to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Vitamins, high quality food, rest for the mother – anything the midwife suggested was followed. And when Toadette’s mother finally went into labor, only the best was present.

“The baby is coming!!” Toadette’s younger brother ran around the home, shouting this news at the top of his little lungs.

The midwife and Toadette’s parents were locked in the bedroom, everyone fussing and fawning. “It’s coming!” The midwife said, as her mother screamed in the background. “I see a nose. I see a curl. It’s a healthy, perfect, lovely little.....”

“Girl.....” The last word was barely a whisper, causing Mr. Robinson to look up from his wife and glance to the midwife.

“What is it, what’s wrong?”

The midwife looked up at the proud parents, her face pale. She said nothing but held up the baby girl who had just been born. Still covered in blood and screaming bloody murder, it took the parents a few moments to realize what was wrong.

Two arms, two legs, ten fingers, ten toes, a cute little face - and bright pink hair. That’s right, the perfect little girl the parents had prayed for was not quite so perfect.

The room was silent other than the baby’s cries. It was the midwife that moved first, wrapping the baby in a blanket and cleaning her up. She did her job, as was expected of her, because despite the bright pink hair the baby was still a living breathing person that needed to be cared for. Hours passed and the midwife eventually left the home, leaving the family to adjust to their newest addition.

“Why is her hair a funny color?” The Robinson’s son asked his parents when he first saw his new baby sister. The parents looked at each other, unsure how to answer. What had gone wrong?

Toadette was perfect in every other way; she was a happy baby who rarely cried and had an easy temperament. Her mother tried to hide her hair under bonnets and hats, but each day the hair was thicker and longer, with more and more people noticing. Eventually, Mrs. Robinson stopped taking Toadette outside and over time, she stopped inviting people to her home. She couldn’t answer questions about her unique child so she started to avoid them altogether.

And then, one day, Mr. Robinson came home looking completely shattered. He sat at the kitchen table, shaking his head, unable to even speak for quite some time. When he did, eventually, his words were devastating. “We’ve lost everything. All of it. The markets crashed and the country is wiped clean. We have nothing left. The banks have nothing, our accounts are worthless.”

“What will we do? How will we take care of our family?” Mrs. Robinson sat at the kitchen table next to her husband, who reached out to cover her hand with his.

“We’ll figure something out darling, I know we will.”

Stay tuned to find out what the Robinson's did to ensure their financial future, and how it involved poor little Toadette.....
