. As a newborn child Roadrunner was torn from his home in Ireland. Of course he was not called Roadrunner then but it is hard to remember what his real name was anymore. He was brought to America by his parents who died soon afterwards. From then on he was raised by a couple who came over with him and his parents. From the time he could walk he was always moving, and quite fast. Life being hard, he took to petty theft to help provide food for the home. The screws could never catch him when he ran; he was fast and knew the streets to well. He built a reputation for his abilities and began to get odd jobs running things for different people. Once a very well known man with a lot of ties to the criminal life came to him and asked him to deliver an envelope to a shop owner across town. Knowing that if he failed or did anything other than what was asked he may very well end up dead. He took the envelope and ran like his life depended on it because, well, it did. After dropping off the envelope he went back to the coffee shop where the man had found him and the man was gone. As he stood there the waiter came up and handed him an envelope smaller than the one he had just dropped off. Inside was one hundred dollars. Some months later a friend of his father’s who had found a way in with one of the local families came to him needing a favor. This man was not too high up but was a family friend and had some connections so he said yes. The job was simple: pose as a delivery boy and find out if there was a man in the room. He was given the description and sent to a hotel room. After knocking and dropping off the parcel, Roadrunner went back and relayed that the man was in fact in the room. Following the older man into the room Roadrunner witnessed his first murder. It was only later that he would find out that the man was an informant for the feds. Two days later the older man was in a back room with the head of his family telling him about the events that had taken place. When the Don asked about the kid who had been there the older man told him about Roadrunner and his part in it all. Another man who had remained silent until that point spoke up and vouched for Roadrunner, telling them about the job he had done for him. After conferring for a bit they decided to give the young man a chance to show what he was capable of. Another two days went by, by then Roadrunner had put the whole thing out of his mind telling himself to forget about, it knowing he could never talk about it with anyone. While walking down the street lost in thought he got snatched into an ally by a large, mean looking man. Thinking this was it Roadrunner closed his eyes and accepted his fate. As the pressure was released he expected the bullet that would end his life. He opened his eyes as a soft voice spoke. The man apologized for his man’s roughness. The elderly man told him he had been noticed and watched by those who matter and would now be given the chance to earn a real living in the criminal underworld. And so began Roadrunners growth in the Mafia lifestyle |
