So a few characters back I had a situation happen that I thought would possibly make a good topic of conversation to bring to you all,  and I had planned to bring a new topic about every week or so, but sadly Poor SpaceCowgirl met her demise before that could happen.   And since this is an idea I liked, so I thought I would bring it back.

So without further ado my new topic I would like to discuss is this:  Would you rather be lied to or have the truth hidden from you?  Do you see one as being worse than the other or are they about the same?

My first choice would always be to know the truth, even if it will hurt.  There is a lot more pain if being lied to, or if someone tries to hide something from you.   However, if I absolutely had to choose I think I would go with having something hidden from me. As they always say, ignorance is bliss.

I would say they are about the same, but it also depends on the lie or truth that is being hidden, if its a big lie or truth being hidden, I can say that would be worse than if it was a smaller lie or truth that was hidden.

That's just my two cents, not sure if it answered your question or not though.

You cannot take back a lie once told, but truth may still be revealed in time. Of the two, I would have to say hiding the truth to be the lesser evil.

Report Post Tip

Ignorance is sometimes more bliss

Report Post Tip

i prefer truth, you can't build, fix or compromise if you don't know what the real issue is.

Report Post Tip

White little lies I can deal with, wont fret. Big lies just might aswell tell me the truth cause I'll find out anyway and I can always forgive a confession ;>

Hard to say about if it would hurt or not ..or how badly..it would depend on what it was.

Depends the situation I suppose. Rather have the truth held back though. Once you get caught lying it's hard to get that trust back.
Report Post Tip

I would prefer to know the truth no matter the situation. I tend to be brutally honest and would expect the same in return lol Lying takes too much work and rarely ever ends well in my opinion

I believe having the truth hidden is just slightly less painful to deal with than being actually lied to.  Being lied to is an active act, while having the truth hidden is passive and can be later followed up, or "corrected", once the time to reveal the truth has come.  Once a liar, always a liar...

Report Post Tip
I'd rather know the truth. So I can learn to deal with whatever the situation is right then. Rather than having the truth eventually reveal itself later and having to deal with all that pain like its brand new. Does that make sense?
Report Post Tip

Always the truth.

This topic hits home for me. I encountered a situation where someone accused me of lying when they discovered something about me. My argument was I was never asked. To date, I stand by my belief. Had I been asked, the truth would of been told. I detest a liar and what is unsaid and not asked is not a lie.

Report Post Tip

Sin of omission...some would call that lying.

I'd rather know everything upfront. No surprises.

Report Post Tip
Keeping it real means a lot to me...so the truth is wassup...i hate being in the dark
Report Post Tip

A person cannot rightfully be found guilty of lying if never asked. People deliver and confide with information about themselves as the trust builds. If asked and they lie, that is a lie.

Alright NakedsAvenge. Here's your scenario.

One of my closest friends contracted herpes from her fiance'. She's a forgiving soul, and married his nasty ass anyway, despite all our protestations.

She's barren now, can't have children of her own.

By your reasoning, he's free and clear, simply because she neglected to specifically ask if he was STD free?

(An illegitimate kid with a drugged out mommy soon came sniffing around after they were married, adding to her woes. But hey, she's sorta got a kid now!)

I am sorry to hear of your friends' heartaches. This is a clear case of a man who was engaged,  unable to commit himself to one woman. The symptoms of herpes typically take 2 weeks to surface for woman, which is the only way she would know he cheated on her. Men often have no symptoms. This scenario in my opinion is a separate topic.

Report Post Tip

I prefer not to be lied to. I can respect the truth even if it bothers me.

I cannot forgive a liar though.
