A Christmas Story - Why the heck not? Started by: Eros on Dec 20, '17 01:30

December 23rd, 1934 - Los Angeles

Bells were ringing, and bullets were whizzing by. Christmas carolers were singing in the background and then screaming for their lives only moments later, it took just a couple of seconds for everything to change completely. It was almost magical, the excitement in the air, the snow blowing around the city street as if it were a set rather than real life; and then without warning, suddenly all of their lives changed forever as Eros exited the building and walked past the man with the machine gun and into the vehicle to make their grand escape.

"Did you get the stuff?"

"Are you sure we should be doing this two days before Christmas?"

"Who gives a fuck about Christmas?"

Eros tentatively said his next words, knowing fully that these people were generally more brutish than the people he was used to dealing with.

"I mean... I'm sure some people do..."

It was a three-day job, leading up to Christmas itself. Today, they stole the key to the mansion of one of the most wealthy men in America, and tomorrow they would use that key to kill him. Well, not with the key, they weren't that skilled, but you know what I mean...

"...and on Christmas Day, we take his home over, and it becomes our new place of business."

"Yeah... it's a bit brutish, isn't it?" he had tried to talk them into trying another plan, one more tactfully done and perhaps on a day more fitting for such a hostile takeover, but they would hear nothing of it. Besides, they needed Eros and were willing to pay a lot of money -- his skill with rifles and bows was otherworldly and he had been paid to do many assassination jobs in his young life, but this one was something else. Nearly one million dollars and a spot in their family, and all he had to do was take one simple shot through a window. Something he had done a hundred times before, albeit in generally more loving circumstances.

"So I'll ask again, did you get the stuff?"

He seemed a bit annoyed and perhaps jealous, the tone of his voice was almost angry to a point. Maybe it was Eros' perfect looks or the skill that he possessed, or both? He wasn't sure, but he didn't like the guy and could tell the feeling was definitely mutual, but he had a job to do and he did all of his jobs well. Pulling the key from his pocket, he handed it to the man and flashed his signature smile.

"Of course I did."

After a few more minutes of what was a lot of awkward silence, the car finally stopped, but they weren't near where they were supposed to be and Eros knew at that moment that something was wrong. All it took was a single bullet, and the ringing sound began -- and it was definitely not carolers this time.

"Sorry kid, but this just wasn't your holidays. Thanks for the key."

December 24th, 1934 - Los Angeles... still.

He couldn't see or hear a single thing, in fact, he was still not completely certain that he was still alive, the only thing that convinced him that he wasn't completely gone was the song. It played again and again in his head, and the voice that accompanied it was only getting louder and louder and so he did the only thing he could do, he followed. He wasn't certain where he was going, or if his body was, in fact, moving at all, but Eros knew that this wasn't the time to give up.

"Eros..."

Then it all came back. His head still a bit numb, but there didn't seem to be any holes. Not sure where he was, he continued to walk for a few more moments until he finally noticed a small television illuminating through the window of a store and what he saw made his eyes light up brighter than the north star.

"...four men from Gambazino's Crime Family were caught today attempting to assassinate real estate mogul Calvin Bosa but a faulty rifle was used in the attempt, killing one of the men, the other three were later rounded up by LAPD and taken in for questioning. More at 11."

It was a Christmas miracle. Looking up towards the sky, Eros flashed a smile as snow began to drop down onto the city streets around him as if on cue. Walking into a nearby diner, he went to get something to eat and enjoy the rest of his day.
