Let's Talk Last Jedi (spoilers) Started by: Frankie-Messina on Dec 23, '17 04:04

So are you a fan or not?

There are some issues I had and they were:

  1. Leia's use of the Force.  I was in tears at her 'death' moment and literally bawling like a damn baby and I did (I'll own it) cheer when she used the Force like a bad ass.  However on later reflection I felt like this was a real mary sue moment.  WTF?  When did she train in anything?  We never even HINTED that she did more than had force intuition.  More than anything it robbed fans of an epic death for our princess and most likely part three will open with her death off screen.  Not cool when we had this in the film.  We even could have still had a reunion moment with Luke/Leia in the moments before her death where maybe she reached out to him (this increasing of her force life sensitive power - I could be chill with) and do a Hammil voice over while she's sucked into space.  Hell, if you wanted to really give her  force nod, have the first order pull her into a ship thinking to use her body to discourage the rebels... only to find she's not there and they only have a pile of her clothing!  BOOM force ghost Leia!

  2. Finn & Rose's Not-So-Epic Adventure - This side plot to find a guy who used an item their already had to short circuit a door (and then have that guy turn on them???) basically sucked my toes and since I don't have a foot fetish I mean this is a bad way!  lol.  It's not that I didn't like Finn or Rose (both are great characters and I could see them adding to the universe) but I felt they were wasted and our time was wasted as we did two things there... built a romance and gave fans a nod which said "We see how star wars affected you as a kid - and we're echoing it here!"

  3. Luke Turns on Kylo - WTF!  So he wasn't willing to give up on a dad he didn't know but a nephew he raised from a little boy he was willing to shank at the first sign of the darkside?  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?  Who was this guy... and where's my Luke Skywalker who never gave up on those he loved.  "I feel there is still good in you!"

  4. Kylo's "Let's Not Be Our Parents!" But "No really let's do it!" Moment - I soooo wanted either a) Rey to join Kylo as Sith apprentice and master in that moment... sexy sith main character FTW and the real twist would be Finn and Rose and Po being the new hero trio!  or b)  Kylo to go home to his mom because our princess deserved her son back before she dies.

But... nope.  Can't do that.  What killed the moment of them turning on each other again was when Kylo lays out how he doesn't want to repeat the past... he wants to walk away from it and then... then he FUCKING TAKES UP THE MANTEL HIS GRANDFATHER HAD AS LEADER OF THE GODS DAMNED FIRST ORDER/EMPIRE!  *facepalm*  Why didn't they have Kylo kill the upstart general and walk the f out?  Wouldn't that have been BA... TWO separate bad guys (First Order & Kylo) coming after the downtrodden rebel forces and the Last Jedi?
  5. Captain Phasma - I just can't... I seriously can't understand why they have this character around and do NOTHING with it.  NOTHING.  The actress is amazing and wasted.

  6. Admiral Epic Hair / Leia's Friend whose name I can't recall because she was so unimportant - Damn it star wars you made me hope for a new Han / Leia romance... and then you tear it away from me by killing the Admiral (in a BA way btw - I approve of that death) but why the hell build the sexual rapport / tension to no pay off?  Rose and Finn feel forced together and those two had chemistry but when the writers were thinking of who needed to die OF COURSE they went with the couple that was kinda rockin' it.

Things I LOVED.

  1. ZOMG Yoda - I LITERALLY told my hubby seconds before he appeared, "Obi Wan or Yoda."  Then BOOM!  There he was.  But what the fuck Yoda.  Late much?  Why wait so long?  Where was your great advice when Luke was gonna kill Kylo or when Rey was having her secret force meetings with Kylo?  Still, such a bad ass moment him burning the tree and doing his jedi double talk about rey having everything she needs (the books!)

  2. Luke and Leia - I love that they got to see each other one more time on screen.  :)

  3. C3PO - Everyone spent the movie telling him to shut up (hell all the movies)  this time 3P0 had something to tell that was worth while and guess what he did... he shut up!  I didn't catch it right away but I kept thinking about why Luke winked at 3P0 and why he said Luke's name like it was a question - C3P0 KNEW IT WAS AN ILLUSION!  lol

  4. I cheered for scrolling intro!

  5. I bawled like a baby over Leia's 'death' and also cried at Luke's real death but felt that it was sooooooo GOOD.  I know, some felt it was a weak end for Luke but I felt like it was the kind of death Obi-Wan had.  He was old, he stretched himself out too far, he was injured by what he did and so he released his life force back out into the force.  Perfection.  We'll see force ghost luke - you heard it here first.  "Use the Force Rey!"

  6. Sexual tension between Kylo & Rey - tell me you felt it too?  I think Rey saw his future with her.  I know it's probably too hopeful, but I'm all about it.  Star Wars has always been about family drama in space... relationships over space magic...

  7. Po character growth - it's a thing.  I suspect he'll become a leader in the Rebel forces now.

  8. A reason for Kylo's moodiness - I hate that they made Luke do it but if your parents dumped you into the hands of a crazy mystic uncle who then tried to cut off your head with a light saber... you might be a bit emo too and go to the dark side too.

  9. Leia hugging Chewie - Overdue but at least we got it into this movie.

  10. Leia feeling the burden of years of leadership - this felt real to me.  She's a woman who can FEEL people dying so it's more than just a normal burden of leadership and to me that would be hell.  I was so happy they addressed it.  She's been carrying that burden of leadership and watching people die for her whole life.  To me that was very much appropriate and Carrie Fisher played it epically.

  11. Carrie's daughter - Saw her in more scenes, wish they had decided to develop her into a character!

  12. Visuals - soooo pretty.  My eyes were in a wonderland of epic and win.  The colors, the movement... wow.

  13. Finn closing his eyes at the moment of 'death' serenely - Finn almost looked like he was letting himself go into the Force just as he was saved.  Am I the only one who is wanting to see him tap into the force?  I mean he's used a damn Light saber and such so doesn't that mean he has some amount of force sensitivity?  That would be a big deal for a trooper, right?  Though he's not technically a clone... right?  Someone star wars obsessed help me understand the epicness of Finn being able to rebel against his first order roots.

Over all I liked it.  I walked out of the the theater with a huge grin, but on reflection there is a ton the last movie will need to do in order to justify some of the plot holes here and that's a lot to expect from one movie... of course with a run time of 2.5 hours, you can do a lot!

So... what's your thoughts?

Has a major star wars fan, I am I am really glad to see more Star Wars movies and such come out. I try to ofcourse have an open mind to new things and changes that they wish to add.

I love the exspanded universe content and know alot of it so some of these changes makes me sad but i can adjust just like marvel and dc has alternate timelines and such that's how im viewing this.

Whats killing me the most is the subliminal bs disney political slight of hand crap they are going out of the way to add.

1. That death scene would have been a great way to send her off and definitely be a tear jerker. Im curious if kylo will kill her. The force thing she did was completely retarded in my opinion...if you wanna showcase or give her some "force spotlight" anything mental/emotional would be great like arguing with kylo like rey and him was.

2. The side plot was completely stupid. I whole heartedly feel it was to A. to check the ethnicity box with roses charchter and B. Make a slight at "The Rich People".... the plot was dumb we need a master coder (sneak off they main ship in the middle of being attacked amd chased by heavy first order)  we dont find him yet we find another coder wtf.... and he backstabs them wich is fine but then the "oh hes not such a bad dude when he used her sisters necklace" was pointless. Also what the hell did they give him as a reward anyway???

3. The whole perception on luke and what they turned him into completely pissed me off. I was hoping he went into the more of a grey jedi type state maybe or understood the jedis shortcomings. I feel they pretty much castrated who he is and belittled his role/status. Plus his "hermit" was nerfed with island nuns? and weird creatures lol was really confused at all that.

4. Kylo man... i was hoping from his defeat and killing of his father he would become less tempertantrum and more "sinister serious"

5. I agree, they really are letting this great charchter go to waste all that bs with fin and rose they should of had cut all that and made more use of Phasma going after Fin. She reminds me of the fett role (some what) but intially they didnt know fett and the mandalores would be something so popular. However eith phasma they knew from the jump she was a role people took an interest in, and would of been a great female leadish role without "forcefully" working it in.

6. The way they depicted the whole take over and etc of the ship and all that was usless and when all tge mutiny happened she could of told poe then also but know they choos to shoot stun guns and fight potentially harming eachother in a uneeded plot filler told crapily lol

8.

I am disapointed in Snokes build up and death....Im hoping he's not dead somehow. In exspanded universe Palpatine figured out to transfer himself into a cloned body. I Feel like snoke death was to easy and cheap and left me unsatisfied.

I am also disappointed at the island part with her and "the dark" area..... not really sure if i understood that part...

wished for an epic lightsaber fight with luke and kylo but meh...

Oh and to answer #13 you dont have to be force sensitive to use a lightsaber it has a button lol

Overall I thought it was a descent movie...there was a bit too much comedy in it...but I thought it was still pretty good. Didnt make my top three though.
