It's my yard! Isn't it? Started by: RomanReigns on Dec 28, '17 02:27

It was another restless night, Insomnia always had me off doing random jobs late at night. It was tough to keep track of what I was doing let alone where I was at some times. I was getting less sleep these days with more work it seemed. Either at the airport waiting for a flight or up in the air, there just wasn't much time for sleep anymore. The flight attendant got my attention as she walked up with a small snack. Not sure why I needed a snack I was starting to think this flight was taking longer then expecting, but thought nothing of it.

My flight had just landed and as I departed the airport I just couldn't wait to be home. I had brought home a new lawn mower for our headquarters and the boss said that I would be in charge of keeping the yard serviced from here on out. I checked out the box before I loaded it into the car. Even though it was a late night I was more then excited to gas up the new lawn mower and see how it worked.

After a short drive I parked the car and proceeded to unload the lawn mower. I figured that Insomnia would see the car pull up and come out if he thought it was important enough. I hadn't slept in a couple of days so I couldn't care less who I woke up with the sound. Taking my time to set it up I was finally ready to add the gasoline and let her rip. The mower powered up right away and to my surprise it exceeded my expectations and ran wonderfully. Revving up the engine a couple of times to get the gas flowing I proceeded to start on the lawn.

Figuring right now was a good a time as ever I got down and mowed away on the yard in the middle of the night. Being all loud as hell I knew the boss had to hear the commotion I had started with the permission he had given me to purchase the mower. To my surprise seeing the headquarter lights turn on and doors open I was not standing in front of the man I thought I'd be. My eyes widened to my surprise, it was Syndicate the CEO of Goliath National Bank. I quickly turned off the engine to the mower and turned my attention to Syndicate.

Walking up I shook his hand in excitement and asked what brought him too Brooklyn at such a late hour for an over night stay. Raising his eyebrows he gave me an awkward look and kind of laughed. He explained to me that I had driven myself to Manhattan and decided to mow his yard. Telling me he couldn't believe it for his own eyes if he hadn't seen it himself. Told me once I got started that he wasn't gonna stop me figured he go ahead and break the bad news to me once I was done. He let me know that he appreciated the service, but maybe next time if it was going to be a surprise visit that it wasn't in the middle of the night. I told him I'd do my best and maybe this was one of those things we didn't bring up next time we were around Insomnia.

Just then a familiar face in Hope pulled into the driveway. Once parked she got out and walked over to Syndicate and myself. Laughing at me once she got up to us she thanked Syndicate for the call and let him know that she would get me back to Brooklyn safely. Confused as to why I was being driven home by someone else from the lack of sleep I loaded the mower into the back of her car leaving mine there. Apologizing for all of the commotion and misunderstanding I shook Syndicates hand and let him get back to sleep. Getting into the car looking over at Hope I laughed and told her this time it was definitely not my yard.

RomanReigns was definitely an interesting character, he had been over a few times to visit the headquarters and enjoy a nice cigar so it would seem that his presence in Manhattan tonight was a result of very little sleep and a cruise control or muscle memory that brought him here. He mows very well, in fact it is why I waited until he was nearly done to turn on the lights and open the door. Hector is not going to be happy when he gets here in the morning to find the grass already mowed.

A young lady by the name of Hope was the contact I called to make sure he was picked up and taken home. Poor guy has not slept in days and really shouldn't be driving, if he thought this was Brooklyn who knows where he'd drive himself. She approached us laughing and got RomanReigns in her vehicle. She apologized but it truly wasn't necessary, I was in the study looking over some blueprints when I heard the lawn mower start up. I was also good friends with Roman, got a good laugh out of it, and a free lawn mowing. The only rough part was explaining to Hector that he still had a job but just not this week.

"Hope, go grab his keys, the least I can do to pay him for the mowing is get his car home." She approached the passenger side door to see Roman carrying on a conversation with himself in the front seat, opening the door it was clear he was muttering that he was definitely not in his yard. She patted his shoulder and pulled the keys from his jacket breast pocket and tossed them back to Syndicate. It was quite late and no one was on the roads, the two vehicles pulled off towards Brooklyn driving side by side the headlights of their vehicles illuminated the road. It was quite the uneventful drive all the way to the bridge but something up ahead was not right. The headlights were starting to reflect off what seemed to be smoke in the air. Syndicate cracked the window to confirm the smell, it was indeed smoke. As the cars began to cross the bridge they noticed the dark plume of smoke and the object causing it. A car was engulfed in flames on the edge of the Brooklyn side of the bridge. Both cars stopped and the drivers side doors opened. Roman tugged at his lap belt and finally got out of the vehicle. Hope and Syndicate were slowly approaching the vehicle to see if it was abandoned or if anyone was in need of help. The crackling sound of the fire was interrupted by the sound of a lawnmower being started behind them. It was obvious that Roman was in dire need of sleep when he began to push the mower down the asphalt towards us.

It was not how Syndicate expected his night to go but he could always count on RomanReigns to make for an interesting night. The vehicle that was bursting into flames appeared to be empty, the driver either went to get help or something else was going on. There were no tire marks that showed signs of an accident or skid so the vehicle was definitely parked sideways on purpose to block the path. Syndicate readied his weapon and motioned to Hope that it would be best to get back in the vehicles. Then the night got even more interesting...

It had been a semi uneventful evening. Hope was fairly certain that she knew the whereabouts of all those she felt closer to. Her beloved family. All save for one... Their very right hand man. And it was this one who vexed her. She knew he was flying home tonight and something about a lawnmower... In theory he was safe, by not knowing it for sure was getting to her. She say up much of the night, pouring over some notes of hers. Anything she wanted to commit to memory was written down that she may read it later when either her mind was clear, or she needed a distraction other than the alcoholic kind. This was one of those nights. Ever since she had been accepted into this family she had vowed to keep them safe as best she knew how. Whatever it took. But to do that, she had to know where they were! One might ask if the petite young woman had shepherd blood in her veins. In any case, she wasn't upset in the least at the late contact. In fact she felt relief flood her. It wasn't a dangerous mission, as far as she had heard, but it only took one bullet to take one out. This life of theirs was not safe, even on the most mundane run. She received the call greatly and was in her car before the minute was up. She want certain that she understood or really believed what she heard, but she supposed stranger things had happened. Pushing the speed limit just a tad, she soon arrived at the designated place and saw the very man she was inwardly concerned for standing next to the man who contacted her. She didn't know the other well yet, but it didn't stop her lilting laughter, her eyes dancing in amusement as the sight of the lawnmower and immaculate lawn confirmed the tale.  Greeting the both and making quick work of preparing to leave.  Under no circumstances was Mr. Reigns driving home.  She'd drag him if she had to... Or at least make the attempt.

It seemed those drastic measures were not needed.  Roman seemed quite reasonable and willing to accompany her.  She'd just snag someone else and come back for the car tomorrow...  Well if Syndicate didn't have other ideas.  Nodding in agreement, she retrieved Romans keys and passed them to Syndicate.  "Definitely not your yard..." She allowed another of those rare smiles to grace her features, lighting up those usually stern eyes.

Not questioning the leader of their neighboring city, she got back in her car, started it up, and headed for home with their right hand safe with her.  Feeling some tension loose in her neck, she relaxed as she drove side by side with Syndicate.  She'd likely be taking the drive twice tonight, but didn't really mind.

Just then something caught her eye.  Smoke...  That was typically not a good thing, especially if it wasn't a tool in your own plan.  Syndicate seemed intent to check it out as well, so Hope wasted no time pulling over and drawing her own piece, exiting her own car.  She glanced to Roman, seeking direction if he had any for her.  Otherwise she act on her own accord, watching Syndicates back.  Approaching with silent steps, she kept every sense live although the smoke hindered things.  Hearing a roar from behind them, Hope jumped but as she saw what Roman was doing, bewilderment lit up her face.  She wouldn't address that for the time being, they very well may have a bigger problem on their hands than his lack of sleep.

At Syndicates indication, Hope almost scoffed.  Heck if she was leaving him without backup, but she nodded and at least backed toward her car, ready to take shelter, or drive, or something depending on what the situation called for.  One thing was for sure, it wasn't going to be what she expected for this uneventful night!

Noticing the two of them were distracted with the smoldering fire I took it upon myself to walk the mower on home. We were already over the bridge and I figured the fastest way to get this mower home was to have it powered on. I sped past Syndicate and Hope as fast as I could hoping the fire still had there attention. I was going to have to wait to show off the mower to Insomnia, it was getting late and it was my first night home.

Slowing down I mowed into a yard that looked like home, I'd finally made it. I let off the gas and the engine died on its own as I walked it into the back for storage. Once the mower was put away I made my way inside through the back door. I usually left it unlocked, but for some reason I must have locked it not thinking. Not certain what I was going to do seeing as how Syndicate had my keys still. I walked around to the front and that door was locked as well so I made my way inside through a side window. It wasn't the cleanest of entrances, but finally inside I could get some rest.

Kicking my shoes off I scratched the stubble on my face as it was nice to finally be able to relax. Putting on a robe I found hanging on the bathroom door I made my way over into the kitchen. I had only had a small snack since leaving the airport and it was nice to be able to make a sandwich. Once I got finished preparing the food I made my way into the front room to kick back. Putting my feet up as I sunk my teeth into my tasty sandwich was the greatest feeling ever. Not knowing how long I'd have to relax I had to take full advantage of the time I had to be home. Once finished eating I took the plates into the kitchen and placed them into the sink. Just then I heard a noise coming from the front room I'd just left.

Slowly walking back into the front room area I unbuttoned the button on my holster. I quickly drew my pistol to the site of not one, but two men making there way in threw the exact same window I'd entered through. One man had already made there way inside while the other was in the process. I scared the hell out of them as they had no clue I was already in the home. The second man fell out of the window to the sound of my yelling and the other was stuck in front of me at gun point. I was not about to clean up a mess of blood tonight, I was too tired.

Holding the man at gunpoint I phoned the authorities, I figured this joe wasn't worth making a mess in my own home. After the authorities arrived and noticed who I had with me they were quite surprised. He was a serial burglar that was on there most wanted list. To my surprise the cops handed me a large wad of cash as my reward and I was sure to tip all of them for there help. You never know when you might need help from a local when your in deep shit.

It was when the cops left and I started to count the money I realized that I wasn't actually home. I had stumbled into a strangers home by accident thinking it was mine. The people that lived there were either out for the night or gone for a vacation because the place was dead. After the night I'd had I wasn't going to stay here that was for sure. I looked around and looted a few things before exiting out the back door. Running with the valuables and cash in my hand I ran back into Syndicate and Hope surprisingly. Handing a sailors hat to Syndicate and putting a gold necklace around Hopes neck I made my way over to the mower and fired her back up. Continuing on my way I was destine to make it home one way or another.

The flaming car was the least of their worries with RomanReigns on the move once more. Hope and Syndicate got back into the vehicles, turned them around and crossed the median to drive the wrong way down the bridge on the path that was not blocked. Roman was nowhere in sight at this point however there was a few yards with a single track of short grass that cut through a few yards. The track was visible from the street and made it easy for Hope and Syndicate to catch up with him.

At a certain spot it was clear Roman exited the grass and crossed the road. The trail went dead almost instantly but the freshly beheaded blades of grass that were dragged into the road by the mowers tires gave them enough of a direction to pinpoint Roman. It was not long before their search ended in front of a house that clearly didn't belong to the Insomniac. A single squad car was parked in front of the house with its light on and at least one individual in the back seat.

Hope parked the car and went to check out the squad car while Syndicate moved his car a block away. If Roman was in the back of the car it would not be good for Syndicate to be caught driving his car around. It was a cold night and it was a long block away that Syndicate had parked the car. He jingled the keys as he shivered thinking to himself that he would have been home in front of the fire with a nice bottle of whiskey but noooooo, he was trying to find a man and a mower.

The police car had driven off and Hope was sitting in her car, when she saw Syndicate she opened the car door and the two stood in the street outside of the house. They were both pointing down at the blades of grass in the road and the clear end to their trail. It was a few minutes later when they were discussing what to do when RomanReigns came jogging from around the back of the house, a few trinkets and cash in his hands. He gave Syndicate some sort of sailors hat and whispered in his ear, "Not Pennys Boat". The man was clearly delirious and had taken it upon himself to rob houses in the middle of the night. "Get your damn mower, we need to get your ass home." Syndicate said to Roman who looked back at the house he had emerged from. He smiled and reached deep into his pocket pulling a gold necklace and placing it around Hope's neck. He skipped to the back yard and grabbed his mower and reached down to start it up, "No!" Hope and Syndicate yelled simultaneously, "Lets just keep it off this time" Syndicate said assuring him that it would be okay to keep the machine off.
