Pike Place Coffee & Books: Detroit Started by: Thoros on Jan 18, '18 10:17

Thoros had just flown in from his business in Seattle when he craved a cup of coffee. Not having access to the same exact coffee he had just had at his own coffee shop in Seattle frustrated him greatly. So he had a wonderful idea. He would open an identical looking coffee shop here in Detroit. One that had a very similar, if not exactly identical, menu as his first location. He envisioned having such an establishment in every major city.

I'd have a legitimate business EVERYWHERE. It's perfect.

With that he procured a building(he may have had to take extreme action to get the former business owner to vacate the building) and set his staff to reproducing the look and feel of his Seattle location. To the left was the espresso bar with a fancy new Italian espresso machine and a regular drip coffee maker for those that just wanted a regular cup of coffee. To the right of the bar were some tables as well as some comfy chairs. In the rear were some book shelves with soft chairs scattered throughout.

Hello, Detroit. Today I bring you what I'm hoping will be the first of many locations throughout all the major cities of our world. Here you can get the same quality coffee you would get if you went to the coffee capital of the world, Seattle.

With that he opened the door and placed a menu sign on the counter...

Coffee $1

Cappuccino $2

Cafe latte $2.50

Add a rum shot to any of the above: $1

Having just landed in Detroit, Preeyah makes her way down into the district. "Ahhh yes, a franchise of one of the best coffee houses I have been to." Last time, she was in the Seattle coffee shop. What a wonderful experience.

Preeyah walks in through the door and queues up for a coffee while scanning the shop for suitable seating.  As usual, she eyes up the sofa seating near the window.

"Hey there, please may I have a regular coffee with a shot of rum." Preeyah pulls out her newspaper and places it on the counter then fishes through her purse for the correct change. Looking around, she asks the gentleman serving.. "Does Thoros happen to be in the area today? I would love to see him." On that note, Preeyah takes her coffee and newspaper then heads to the sofa seating.

Tony was making his way around Detroit when he spotted Preeyah through the window of a local coffee shop. He decided to make his way into the shop to say hello. Before he made his way over to the comfy couch she was sitting on he went for the counter.

"Hey, can I get a cappuccino with a shot of rum in it?" Tony pulls out the cash from his pocket and places it on the counter before heading over to the couch with his drink. He places the drink on the table to let it cool just a bit and turns to Preeyah.

"I don't want to interrupt your reading, but how have you been? Any good news stories in there? I tend to stick to the sports and the funnies." Tony smiles and finally takes a quick sip of his cappuccino. It was quite delicious and the rum was a nice touch.

Preeyah hears a familiar voice ordering coffee as she reads the newspaper. She is trained in pretending to be busy although she knows everything that is happening around her. It was Tony! She looks up and smiles gesturing for him to come over. As he sits and places his cappuccino on to the table she places her news paper next to it, picks up her coffee and sinks back comfortably into the sofa. Taking a sip of the delicious coffee she is hit with the rum. "Jeez, I forgot I ordered the shot of rum in it. My goodness, it is beautiiiful."

Preeyah waves to the gentleman behind the counter for another coffee. "I have been wonderful. Business has been good. I apologise I haven't been around Las Vegas as much but I am onto a new lead out here. Operation Danya we are calling it. I have people coming over from all over the place. Something to do with the line of jewelry. You will reap the profits, I promise you! Anyways, less of that. How have you been and what brings you to Detroit?

The Gentleman brings over a fresh coffee, this time with two shots of rum.

Report Post Tip

Tony takes another sip of his cappuccino as he listens to Preeyah's news about this "Operation Danya" which sounds profitable. He looks out the window at the sunshine that is very welcome on this chilly day.

"Ah, that's no problem. I tend to spend a lot of time outside of Las Vegas now tending to business affairs. I came out here to Detroit in order to make sure a shipment made it to a business man's warehouse without any problems. That's why there is a bit more muscle outside than usual."

Tony points outside at the three vehicles parked along the street with the 10 men standing around them and the coffee house. One of the men come in and whispers something to Tony before heading back outside...

"Speaking of which, the men got the shipment into the city alright. Later today I'll go over to escort it." Tony finishes off his cappuccino before continuing, "So you think I can get the funnies out of that newspaper from you?"

Report Post Tip

Excited, listening about Tony's shipment. "This is so interesting to hear. I am pleased to hear it went well. Had I known you were going to be here, I would of helped out with my expertise" Preeyah jokes.

Preeyah drinks the last of her coffee and orders another. "This is going to be my last coffee I think. I will be awake for days otherwise." Preeyah laughs while handing him the paper. I only get it for the funnies myself.

Her coffee is served and she takes a mouthful. "I shall be off now. Got to be on point for the big meeting of operation Danya. Preeyah stands and puts her coat and scarf on.

"So I will leave you with the funnies and see you back at HQ for a briefing tomorrow" On that note, Preeyah shakes Tony's hand and wraps an arm around him. "Laters" She gets up and leaves the coffee shop.

Report Post Tip

Tony smiles as he takes the funnies from Preeyah...

"Thank you, I'll finish up another cappuccino while I look at these." Tony chuckles from just a glance at the first one, but realizes he should finish his goodbyes before Preeyah is gone.

"Yeah, I'll see you back in Las Vegas. I look forward to hearing about everything. You take care now."

Tony watches as she heads on her way out of the coffee shop. He then turns back to the newspaper to have a bit of enjoyment in his time alone before heading out to complete his own work.

Shaggs had been traveling a lot lately. He'd been making contacts and speaking with business partners all across the country. He was getting a little worn down. He'd had the bright idea to try and take a few weeks off drinking and while the Doc said it was doing wonders for his health, he found that he needed a little pick me up every once in awhile.

Thankfully he knew that the original home of Pike's Place Coffee was in Detroit and he was hankering for a cup. He walked in and headed to the counter.

Hello there! I'd like to order a cup of black coffee and a tea if it's available!

Report Post Tip

It was a cold winter night and Tony wanted a cup of Coffee to warm his bones and give him a jolt of energy.  He walked into Pike Place and the warm air from the book store hit his face and warmed his bones.  Tony never really liked reading books but on a cold night he didn't care he wanted a hot cup of coffee.

He placed an order and walked around looking at the books available to read.  He looked around and asked for a triple shot of rum and skip the tea.  He then asked for a shot in his coffee also.

Tony picked up a very heavy and thick book the title was north and south.  He began to read it and before long he had finished both his rum and coffee and was only on page 67 as he reordered in order to keep reading.

There it was, just mocking him. Pike Place Coffee, they seemed to be swamping the entirety of America with them, but Eros wouldn't fall for it, no. He hated how the fat cats sold out and turned coffee into something so disgusting. Coffee for the masses?! No way. He had always ground up his own beans in his backyard that he got from some country in Europe you've probably never heard of.

"This tastes like dirt!" "There's a worm in mine.", they would all chastise him for just trying to bring authentic flavors to America. Pfah! They knew nothing and Eros was going to prove it. He walkekd into the store on a mission, eyeing up the menu he sighed quite loudly before slamming down a gigantic wad of cash onto the counter.

"I'll take two thousand coffees, please."

He would buy all of their stock and they'd be run out of business! It was genius. HE was a genius!

It was official: Briya had visted each one of the Pike Place coffee houses. After she finished placing her usual order for a double with a double shot, cream and sugar, she paid and grabbed both a newspaper and a random book off of one of the shelves before taking a seat. Usually she didn't stay long enough to settle in, but Detroit didn't have a lot going on these days and she had no pressing business to attend to once her singular drug deal was completed.

With a heavy sigh, she glanced at the book she'd picked up.

No Thanks, by E. E. Cummings

With a disdainful prod of her finger, she pushed the book to the floor and kicked it under the table.

"No thanks," she murmured through the steam rising from her cup.

Pike Place Coffee & Books: Detroit

He had been in Detroit for several hours doing various drug deals, committing a few acts of violence and murder, the usual daily things, when Maddix, well his newest "friend" found in Chicago, Elliot had spotted it.

Ever since literally beating each other half to death back in Chicago, while they still beat each other senseless for "fun" over the tiniest thing, both still wearing various cuts, bruises, stitches and Maddix's broken nose which seemed like would never heal ever again. Despite that they had found a connection. The Psychopath and High Functioning Sociopath had something going on. That connection was once again being tested. Maddix was bored, tired and frustrated. So when the coffee shop was pointed out to him, he gladly jumped at the opportunity for caffeine and a chance to tune out Elliot's bitching about the 2 broken fingers he was currently dealing with.

Walking inside, Maddix realised it wasn't just a coffee shop but it also doubled as a book store/library? How original he sarcastically thought as he walked over to the counter and picked up what looked like to be a menu while Elliot sat down at a table, placing his gun atop of it. While looking at the menu, someone politely cleared their throat. Looking up, Maddix noticed a young girl standing behind the counter, smiling and ready to take his order.

"Ah. Hi. Can I get 2 coffees with a shot of rum in both. Or if you're feeling generous, hold the coffee and just make it 2 rums."

The young girl laughed and turned to fill Maddix's order. While she was doing her job, he grabbed and newspaper, turned around and leaned with his back against the counter while he waited and that's when he noticed Elliot, the gun and a bag of what he knew to be Coke. He seemed to be bored and was going to play a game of Russian Roulette using his good hand while getting high.

Interesting. Maybe this break wasn't going to be so boring after all.

He was pulled from his thoughts by the girl returning with his order and informing him that she slipped a few extra shots of rum into the coffees. Maddix nodded his approval and threw down several bills. More than was needed. He motioned to the bills on the counter before he walked off with his order and the newspaper.

"Keep the change".

The girls eyes lit up as he walked over to the table. It seemed the sheep here were also easily impressed. Sliding Elliot's drink over to him, he sat down, placing the newspaper down in front of him. With a smirk he leaned back in his seat and motioned to the gun and Coke.

"So. What are you waiting for?"

Nexus had waken up early on Monday morning as he had some important meetings to attend, he had been up late the previous night and wasn't feeling fully awake, as the morning dragged on. He needed to be on top form for the meeting scheduled later in the morning.

Nexus quickly made his way to his car, parked outside. He was running late for the meeting, luckily for him the roads down in Detroit were unusually quiet. Speeding as he usually does, Nexus almost arrived at the place for the meeting, looking down at his watch he saw he had 20 minutes spare.

He parked his car, and lit his cigarette as he made his way out of the car. Across the street Nexus saw, what seemed to be a busy looking coffee shop. In fact he had been craving a good coffee, so he made his way over to the shop, and entered through the door.

The place was full, Nexus hadn't been planning to sit in anyway. He reached the counter after waiting in line for 2 minutes or so.

"I'll have a regular cappuccino, take away please" he said to the young lady serving.

As he got his coffee he made his out of the shop, just as he exited he had sip of the coffee, and nodded his head in approval.

He turned his head back and looked at the name of the shop 'Pike Place Coffee & Books'

"I'll be back here again" he mumbled to himself as he made his way to his meeting.

Tony finished his book and his fifth cup of joe.  He nodded as it had been a while since he last read a good book.  Then he walked over to see what else they may have to his liking.  He looked up and saw War and Peace and said what the hell why not.  He took the book back to the table and started reading.  Before long her was asleep.

Hours had passed before someone woke him up.  shaking his head he decided to head to his hotel room and get washed up before hitting the streets.  Walking down the street he spots a few young kids pitching pennies.  Then a fight started as always with kids.  Tony smiled as he remembers all the fights he was in as a kid.

The more things change the more they remain the same.

Thoros had just flown in from his Chicago location when he saw that the Detroit location seemed to be more popular. Who knows why. Maybe people just had better taste when they visited Detroit? Chicago just hadn't fully embraced the joys of PPCB. YET.

So glad to see that everyone seems to be enjoying their coffee.

Oh, Eros, I see that you'd like to place a massive order, eh? That will be $2,000. I think you might have a bit of a wait though.

Frankie was in Detroit on business.  She hadn't planned to stay too much longer, but seeing a Pike's Place Coffee she really couldn't help herself.  There was just SOMETHING about this coffee and she loved that she could get it in any city she went to!

"Cappuccino please."  She said to the Barista.  She pulled out two dollars and gladly paid for her drink.  She waited, enjoying the rich aroma that filled the air of the small business.  Pulling out her notebook she began writing down a few extra bits of information regarding her upcoming wedding plans which she didn't want to forget.

Hearing her name called she walked to the front, took her drink and went on her way, being sure to leave a tip before she departs.

Thoros was home for once and he decided to head on over to his coffee shop to see how business was doing. Only one customer had visited since the last time he was around but Frankie-Messina had already departed. He had heard she was getting married but he wasn't sure if the wedding had happened yet. Thoros wasn't always the best at keeping track of these things.

He also wanted to announce a new special beverage that he had developed because of Honesty in another of his PPCB locations. It was a maple pecan latte that he felt was perfect for the cold weather.

Thoros places a small sign at the coffee bar...

NEW! Maple Pecan Latte $3

"Put that flaming sword away Thoros, you look ridiculous. This is a coffee shop, not a battlefield, your going to set the place on fire"

Art3mis shoved past the Red Priest and headed towards the counter. Looking up at the menu boards, Art3mis started to make her order .

"I'll take two large Americanos, two Latte's, one with full fat milk, one with 2%. Give me one Cappuccino, with whipped cream and sprinkles, that ones for Maddy. And I'll take one of those Maple Pecan Latte's, extra milk, shot of cinnamon."

Thoros was still waving his sword, trying to extinguish the flames, and making a right mesh of it. He had already set the window blinds on fire, and a customer was patting down a flame on his jacket.

"Thoros, did you get that?..."

After a hard days work Jimmy was feeling out of energy and needed something to help keep his eyes open at least until he got a flight back to his hometown Seattle. He waved to the barista to get her attention.

"Could I bother you for a coffee with no sugar darling."

As he waited for his coffee he lifted up yesterdays paper giving it a quick read. Shaking his head while reading the obituaries not noticing that his coffee was sitting ready in front of him. He quickly downed the coffee and threw out a few dollars before heading off to the airport.
