I was sitting there in my office atop the second floor of the headquarters. The heater hadn't been turned on for days, Insomnia liked the cold feeling when he came over for a visit. It was one of those "or else" things. I hadn't been getting out much recently, I'd been finding my answers at the bottom of a scotch bottle. I felt like a ghost wandering the halls as the family would come and go yet I stayed home. I was so tired from the lack of sleep, but sleep was for the weak. Pouring what was left of the scotch into a small glass I had on my desk I threw the empty bottle against the wall watching it break. Topgun poked his head into the room to see if everything was alright, noticing me downing more scotch he just shook his head and went back to what he was doing. Seeing him through my glass I called him back in after he thought he was getting away and I had asked for him to bring me another bottle of scotch from the cellar. He knew my blood had been boiling for some time, I wasn't a drinker so it was out of the normal for me to be doing this. Never questions what I was doing he came back up with the bottle and pulled up a chair along side me. Pouring a glass for himself as well this time he sat there quiet. Asking my what my problem was he threw his drink back and waited patiently. I looked up from my seat and starred straight at him. "Their whole world is gonna burn", Roman said with a stern voice. "There was no turning back from this one TopGun." TopGun poured another round as I bounced another drink back without a problem. He looked at me for a moment as I waited for him to respond. Looking away he cracked his knuckles before turning back around to respond to my drastic announcement. "Bossman, you've been staring at a broken clock for hours, it's about to be 3'o clock in the fucking morning. Enough drinking already, get some rest," he yelled back at me. I put my hand to my neck and cracked it from left to right. I took his drink from him out of spite and drank then both, that'll teach him. I popped the cork back onto the bottle and threw it into his lap. He knew my attitude most of the time, but at this point he could tell it had become more serious then anticipated. "Your right, no more drinking. We will have plenty when we get back.", I told him. I need you to dial Syndicate for me and make sure the transaction went through on what I bought and placed in the warehouse." "You've gotta be fucking kidding me", he asked as his eyes widened. Taking a deep breath he could see that I was beyond pissed already and my patience was dwindling. I scratched my goatee, but before I could let him have it he picked up the phone and made the call. Syndicate was a night owl, I knew he would still be up working hard. Seemed like none of us ever took the time to sleep anymore. TopGun hung up the phone and looked over at me with a blank face. "He said your shit is there, but your not actually doing this are you?,He asked awaiting an answer. You've had a long night sleep on it and we will talk it over when your sober. It's gonna be fine, they have him locked up this time!, he says" I couldn't believe how careless he was about something that meant so much to me. I knew there was gonna be more then enough heat coming my way after, but this man was destine to pay. I stood up, picking up the wooden chair I was sitting in simultaneously and throwing it against the wall. "That's fine, I've got someone for the job.", I said as I laughed" Still in shock from the chair being smashed TopGun opened up the bottle of scotch and began to pour himself another drink. I wasn't sure if he was trying to piss me off at this point or he just wasn't sure what I even wanted him to do so he was just gonna get drunk too. I picked up the phone call and made a call to an old friend. It had just so happen that he was in town on business of his own. Picking up on the other end I kept it short and sweet I knew he was someone I could always depend on. "Meet me at the corner of Church and Main, the big brick building", as said with a serious tone. "Isn't that the police station?", he asked" I said yes and hung up the phone. I wasn't about to give them crooked cops the opportunity to tap one of my lines. Looking across to TopGun I grabbed my glass and took one last drink. I asked him to stay back and keep everything in order. He laughed from being buzzed at this point and told me it was 3 in the morning there wasn't much to worry about other then that I was getting back alive. I hopped in the car and made it down to the docks where my warehouse building was. I had some barrels of gasoline I had purchased in bulk order in case something serious had to happen. Opening my car door I got out and made my way into the entrance of the warehouse where I met one of my family members Sho_Nuff. He handed me the keys, letting me know that the barrels had been loaded like I asked and the truck was all gassed up and ready to go. He was going to take my daily driver hack to the headquarters and wait for further orders. Turning the key in the ignition symbolized that there was no going back. Sho_Nuff closed the big warehouse door behind me as I excited the building. I had three miles to drive, my accomplice should have enough time to get there and be waiting for direction. Manhattan was unusually quiet even for this time of the night, but that was all about to change shortly. Knowing the police had someone in custody that had murdered one of my family members in cold blood didn't sit well with me. I am the law in this neighborhood and I was not going to let this guy rot in a cell. They told me they would give him the death sentence, but my favorite corrupt officer was babying this man and taking care of him on the inside for killing one of mine. The affects of drinking all day and into the night were finally starting to take over, it felt like I was sleep walking. I'd finally made it to my destination and across the street my accomplice was waiting for me. He was someone I knew who would come threw when I needed someone the most. Formerly of Detroit it wasn't everyday you caught a millionaire playboy out walking the city streets let alone wreaking havoc. OliverQueen walked over and we nodded to each other as he put his cigarette out. We walked around to the back of the building where I uncovered the barrels containing the gas. He laughed to himself and looked over at me with a smile on his face. "Did you really have to bring this much?, he asked as he shook his head. Needless to say I think you've gone fucking mad my friend, but I like it." There wasn't much time to talk we had too much work on our hands. I took a brief moment to explain in detail what I needed from him and we proceeded. Getting the barrels out of the truck and onto the ground seemed to be much work, but with time we had them unloaded. I pointed to a stair case that led down to a set of double doors. Oliver and I both took the barrels across the streets, I ran up and kicking the door open breaking the dead locks. Once the doors were open you could hear a commotion from inside as they had heard us. Getting up the stairs as quickly as I could I began to help Oliver take the caps off of the barrels of gasoline. Tipping both of them over on there side we rolled downs the stairs one after another watching them go inside. The sound of them bouncing down the stairs was not quiet at all and some of the cops from the inside started walking up from there stairs to see what was going on. I quickly un-holstered my pistol and shot at the barrels, igniting one sending an explosion through the building rocking the block. They were trapped inside with no way out. Oliver took a cigarette out and offered one to me but I declined. We stood there for a moment watching the cops and that bastards world burn. It brought so much satisfaction knowing that I was going to be the one who had the last say. Hearing the sound of fire trucks sirens in the distance was our cue to get the hell out of there. Oliver wasn't planning on returning to Detroit anytime soon so I offered him a place in New York. He kindly reminded me that he was full of money and had already purchased his own residence there but would be by the headquarters in the morning. |
