Do you think it's going to be a mainstream thing, and how long till it's here? Arty:) |

By mainstream I mean we will no longer use a console to play games, or use a TV / monitor to view want we are playing. Could it used for social aspects, like media and news outlets? What about shopping? Just pop on a visor as away you go. The possibilities are endless. But will it be the end of real face to face social interaction? |

We have all seen the movies where that is the case. It could very well come to everyone just using visors and not inertacting at ll in real life. |

I think eventually VR for gaming will be cheap and maybe they'll branch out to movies and such, but I doubt it will be applied to many non-entertainment areas on a non-gimmick scale. |

I don't want to see it. Why would I want to substitute RL for any action I choose to participate in |

I think VR is the future of gaming, it’s more exciting, more immersive and probably going to be easier to bring along everywhere It needs some upgrades thought |

| I think it will be commonplace in about 3-5 more years at which point I'll only be diving into Aincrad! See you there | |

I wouldn't hold my breath on VR coming to any real prominence in for at least a decade, but that's probably just me being pissed that virtual reality still doesn't work like something out Sword Art Online...not that I'm an anime fan, I just like the abridged series. |

If VR ends up being developed just to make a game like in Sword Art Online, then Jesus Christ, the market will die before it starts. :| |

I was talking about this with a friend recently. I think it will become increasingly common, but I too think it's easily a decade away. |

| Okay, think about it this way then, what technology did we have ten, fifteen years ago, and how much it has progressed in such a small amount of time. | |

Could very well end up like in Surrogate. Everyone staying home plugged in to their body doubles to stay safe from disease, infection, war, anything they can't control really. Leaving their more durable factory made "bodies" to sustain any blows from the real world. The only damage humans would suffer would be emotional and psychological trauma, well their bodies would weaken substantially but at that point I don't think they would care. As Eros said, I doubt they would take it much further than the entertainment venue, maybe a little for help in increasing sales and things like that. Could be neat as long as it's not taken too far. The military will however be going above and beyond, no doubt resulting in some terrifying experiments and projects. Who knows. That's just my thoughts. |

I think VR is going to be a large part of our lives in 5 to 10 years. The technology is already there for the visual sense of VR. I think gaming is going to move squarely in the VR direction. They are already working on the systems to make you actually feel sensations within the game. That will take it to the next level. Who knows if it gets to the Sword Art Online level of craziness where people live in VR, but I could see it being possible. As Vito above said with governments, military, and large billion dollar corporations all investing and experimenting with it who knows what could happen. I do know that if humans throw enough time, money, and research at something we ultimately perfect it, almost to a fault. I could see VR becoming more than just an entertainment system and turning into a training ground for soldiers and the like. I could see drones being operated via VR. |

I think it will be soon to where it's easier to use and maybe without a console or PC. Microsoft has one for other things not just games, Windows Mixed Reality headsets. |
