A few days had passed since Kaira returned to Las Vegas to seek information about her ancestors. Walking on the streets of Vegas was not easy as she could always feel the stares of the people around. There were words muttered about her being the spiteful image of her grandmother and how her grandmother was a person connected to the devil. She was clueless when it came to her family history. She didn’t ever get to meet her mother let alone her grandmother. And she was also feeling frustrated about the fact that no one would want to befriend her over those matters. She was always a lonely and introverted person but this time she managed to find a few people willing to accept her and befriend her. For that she was grateful, and she would not let a day pass without thanking God. Those days were crazy as she was searching for a place to live. The HQs were already crowded, and she felt like it was her responsibility to give the newcomers an opportunity to stay there since she was making enough money to be able to afford place to live. It was a hot weather the day when Kaira left the HQ to search for a house. She walked a lot and saw a few places but none of them made her feel like home. She was tired, exhausted and her legs were hurting bad. The thirst gave her a sore throat, so she started searching for a place to buy water instead of a house. Her luck was awful that day, she couldn’t find a house and there seemed to not be any place that sold water. After that much walking she felt lost. Getting lost all the time was one of her things but this time was different. It was like something was calling her. The unknown was guiding her steps and suddenly everything was gone. There was only a path and a sign on which was written “Only those who desperately search for it can find their way to here!” Her first reaction was to rub her eyes thinking the dehydration is causing her hallucinations but that wasn’t the case. No matter how much she would try to snap out of that moment the sign would remain there. She gathered all her courage and followed the path. And as she was advancing more and more the sky would grey, the wind would start to blow making the nature move. It looked like the trees were struggling to release themselves from the roots that were chaining them. The air gained an unsettling feeling and it seemed like everything around her was screaming. But Kaira didn’t stop, she didn’t feel any fear, only a feeling that was pulling her towards that direction, like someone or something was calling for her. And then she suddenly stopped. There it was. A house built in the middle of nowhere. |

Pushing the heavy gates open the touch of the iron bars, as cold as ice, seized up her hands completely. The house looked untouched. It was rusty and old, and it gave a mystical vibe. It was making Kaira feel so attracted to it but at the same time made her feel like she should run away and never turn back. For a moment she turned her back wanting to run away but as soon as that thought crossed her mind the words written on the sign started echoing in her mind “Only those who desperately search for it can find their way to here! Desperate, desperately… Those who search… Find it, you must find it...” She gathered all the courage she had and opened the gates. As she walked inside the yard she could see an overgrown garden. Sickly green weeds creeping over the path and a small garden pond covered in slime. The light of the setting sun was reflected in the grimy windows. She then realized that the night was slowly approaching. The door was cracked opened. From the crack she could the small and dusty room filled with old furniture that looked like it would crumble to dust if she touched it. It had been three decades since a footstep had echoed within those walls, since the dust had been disturbed and the ghosts awoken. The only furniture was an antique pedestal table carved from local oak positioned in the middle of the chamber and on top of it a crystal globe, some tarot cards and broken cups along with some old vanilla tea bags. On the ground was something like looked like an old frame with a photograph. It was sitting upside down. Kaira leaned and lifted the frame. Between the broken glass pieces and dust, she saw something that terrified her. There was an old woman holding a little girl on her lap. Shock and terror were filling Kaira’s mind as her stomach was starting to twist. It was her. Her younger self. But how could that be. She was never here. She has no recollection of her past. With the frame in her hand she started moving around the house and search for clues about what that place was. She saw something like an old leather journal placed on an old and rusty shelf. The journal had the initials DK. Kaira opened the journal and started reading the information written inside it. Words about witchcraft and fortune telling were all over the journal alongside with records of the people who previously visited the place and their fortune. As Kaira finished the journal and wanted to close it a piece of paper dropped on the ground. Kaira picked it up and started reading it. Tears started filling her eyes. `Dear you, if you were able to find this place it means that you are ready to find the truth and decide. I first want to apologize for the life you had to live. I know it was a lonely and tiring one and I am sorry that this faith had been given to you. Unfortunately, there was no way to avoid it and it will forever follow you and your future children. You see, we have something others do not possess. And that is the ability to see the future. It brought us great misfortune but at the same time it gave us the power to change things. My child, if you decide to follow this path, to take this house and give it life then my power will guide you. Midnight was waiting for its owner to return.` |

The next couple of months were unsettling for Kaira. Every day she was tormented by thoughts about the recent events, questions that were seeking answers, voices that were whispering chants and every night the house would appear in her dreams. The dreams were more like visions of a woman sitting in front of the table and looking inside the crystal globe and people, lots of people coming in and out of the house. They were so real that sometimes Kaira could swear she was feeling their emotions and hearing their thoughts. After going back and forth on her decision she finally made up her mind. She thought that the place holding the answers and the truth about who she really was, was that house. After discussing everything with her crew leader, Kaira took her stuff and started roaming on the streets hoping that eventually she would be able to find her way back to that place and she did. But that time the house looked different. It was welcoming. The garden was clean, the grass was green and the she could even see her reflection in the water from the garden pond. There were even roses and lilies planted in front of the house. When Kaira opened the door, a bell rang announcing visitors, and, in that moment, a black cat jumped from the inside of the house into Kaira’s arms. She giggled and said `You must be the famous Midnight! I am sorry I made you wait for so long.` The house was clean, no more dust and no more spider webs. Everything was in place; dim lights were giving the house a warm vibe and there was a familiar smell of vanilla tea and freshly baked cookies. Rays of sunlight were peeking through the windows between the curtain cracks. They were shinning over the crystal globe making it look like it was holding a rainbow inside. With Midnight in her arms she went to the kitchen and grabbed a cup of tea and then sat on the table. She wasn’t going to let anyone know about the place, about her family history because she felt that if the situation was real then people in need would find their way to the house. And in that moment when she sat in front of the crystal globe the bell rang and the door opened. |

When Alejandro finally found the house, after searching for months (maybe he didn't want to go there desperately enough), he hesitated before knocking on the door. The place looked way more colourful than the first description he heard of it told. Before going, he talked about it with TheButcher, and he understood that that man couldn't dare to his fortunes foretold. Only looking at him made you realize it couldn't ever get better for him anyway. But Guevara was here, on the end. And he did knock.. He waited.. and waited.. until a very balanced Kaira opened the door. Hi.. I am not fearing anything.. but I must admit I don't feel totally at ease with what we are going to do, Alejandro said.. I am used to living in the moment, not really caring about the future. What if I get the feeling I need to live up to something. I never want to become the man they supposed me to be.. Or what if.. As Kaira smiled, Alejandro started to relax a tiny bit more |

Kaira was sitting at the table when the doorbell rang. At that moment so many thoughts crossed her mind. She felt conflicted. There was excitement combined with fear that she felt. She never thought the words written in the journal were true so she never expected someone to find the house. Kaira waited patiently for her first customer to come inside but for some reason no one was crossing the threshold. She got up to see what was happening. At the door she found AlejandroGuevara. She was pleased to see her dear friend standing there but at the same time she was hesitating. Reading someone's future seemed like a bluff to many people and Alejandro's attitude showed that he had reservations too. Kaira smiled, asked him to come in and offered him a seat.
Alejandro, first hesitant then with a bit more confidence started choosing the cards. Are you ready for this? Kaira asked. Alejandro nodded. Kaira revealed the cards and looked at Alejandro saying.
After taking a few moments and a deep breath Kaira started speaking. The first one is Strength. Your Strength lies in your ability to overcome yourself. There was a time when you were consumed by anger. I see darkness and heartbreak. You were a lost soul wandering around without an aim. But you found your strength. At that time you were capable of understanding where the ill feelings were coming from and you learned how to control them. They became your strength. She checked on Alejandro and continued.
Alejandro started feeling a bit uncomfortable so Kaira stopped to ask.
He made a sign for her to continue.
She poured more tea for her and for Alejandro trying to give her guest a bit of time to process what she told him.
Kaira took a deep breath and tried to smile at Alejandro.
When AlejandroGuevara was about to leave Kaira grabbed his arm and made him turn to her.
