Death and Deliverance Started by: Olivia on Feb 11, '18 17:27

When Olivia arrived in Chicago, it was chaos. Buildings were burning, there were bodies lying in the streets. People were running to and from, dynamite flying towards the headquarters where she’d once visited her mother’s friends. It was terrifying, but Olivia didn’t have time to be scared, she had to get to South Side and find her mother.

When she arrived at the headquarters of Marie Costa, the woman who had taken their family from the streets and given them shelter, she frantically searched room to room. It was Marie who she found, leading the war effort with those of her family that remained. She took a moment to quickly explain that her mother was gone, one of the first shot. Why she was picked above others wasn’t clear; the only explanation is one that involved a game her mother liked to play, running around chasing rogue members of their world and racing others for the kill. She’d done well at the game and it appeared that it brought unwanted attention to herself and perhaps her entire family.

There was little she could do for the family now. She was weaponless, her mother’s bodyguards were scattered and all she would do at this point was be a distraction to those still fighting. She thanked Marie and wished her luck, giving her a final hug before she found her mother’s room.

In a drawer by her mother’s bed Olivia found an envelope; on the outside of the envelope was her mother’s nickname for her, Olive. She sat on the bed and opened the envelope, finding inside a letter and a decent amount of $100 bills.

Unfolding the letter, Olivia read her mother’s last words.

My precious Olive. If you’re reading this, the rumors were true – CH was attacked. It seemed to be building for days, the signs of our impending deaths. Why we were targets isn’t clear to me but you know as I do that the life I chose to lead was a dangerous one and that death was always around the corner. Don’t be sad my dear. I’ve left you enough to give you options. While my mother’s instinct is to tell you not to get involved in this thing of ours, you are your mother’s daughter and I know you well enough to know you won’t listen.

I don’t know if everyone in CH will be dead along with me. If not, stay here. Help them. But if CH is destroyed, we have friends in other places. During my limited time here, I have tried to leave a good legacy for you, but this isn’t an easy task. You will have to forge your own road, make your own connections. But you can feel safe in Las Vegas. Go to a man named TonyCastelli. He’s one of the first I met on these shores and he’s been a friend to me even with the distance. Tell him you are my daughter and he will help you.

I love you Olive and I know you’ll make the right decisions. Stay strong but don’t let your heart grow bitter.

And that was it. She read the letter a few times over but the sounds of explosions around her and the screams of people running through the halls told her that it was time to go. She took the money her mother left, as well as her mother’s journals and the letter she’d written, and she hit the road.

Arriving in Las Vegas the next day, Olivia spent time searching for information on the man her mother had named. She learned he was a leader based in Summerlin and she tracked down the address to his headquarters. She had only a small bag with her when she arrived at his doorstep, the knocks seeming to echo down the street. A large burly looking man opened the door, his questioning glance removing any need for words.

“I’m looking for Don Castelli. He’s not expecting me and I’m sure he’s very busy right now, but if you could tell him that the daughter of Olivia Grey is here to see him, I would appreciate it.”

Tony was sitting in his office taking calls all day from people in Las Vegas and across the criminal underworld. There had been a lot of death and destruction which left him and others scrambling. When things had finally died down the calls, letters, and in person visits began. He barely even had time to go visit his delicatessen that was placed over near the new headquarters of Frankie Messina and her Ivory Tower crew.

Tony was taking a break to smoke a cigar and have a drink when he heard a knock on the doors downstairs. He motioned for one of his men to go check who it was. There was a short while before he heard two sets of footsteps coming upstairs to his office. The office door swung open and coming in behind his bodyguard was a young woman who seemed to be familiar.

Unable to place this feeling of familiarity he finally breaks the silence, "Okay, who is it that has entered my office?"

Before this stranger could answer his bodyguard interjected telling him of the relation to Olivia Grey. When he heard that name it created a somewhat sorrowful look on his face. He had come to know Olivia Grey since the first day she had done some jobs for the Mystery Machine. They had no more room so he encouraged her to try to find work elsewhere. She found it under the leadership of Marie Costa who had also been a good friend to Tony.

He shook off the sad thoughts of the friends he had lost and a smile appeared on his face. It was not one resembling pure joy, but something similar to relief. He looked at the daughter of Olivia Grey and felt some happiness that maybe he could help her the way he had not been able to do for her mother. It was at least a small gesture of what he could do for a friend that he was unable to save.

"So, you are the daughter of Olivia Grey? I can see the resemblance." Tony finished the last bit of his whiskey before continuing, "So I assume you have come here in order to seek my help as I have heard the news of your Mother and Marie Costa. Am I correct?"

Tony looked across the desk at Olivia waiting to hear what she has to say....

Olivia was escorted up a flight of stairs into what she correctly assumed to be Tony's office. She wasn't exactly nervous, more just tired and still in shock over the death of her mother. She was relieved to see him smile; at least it meant she wasn't walking into danger. Well, unless he was one of those sadistic bad guys that smiled when doing evil. But she doubted her mother would be friends with someone like that...right?

He looked tired, which made sense given the chaos of the past 24 hours. Parts of Las Vegas had been wiped but it seemed this district had gone untouched. She couldn't possibly wonder why but she also wasn't sure she cared. Politics were never her strong suit and right now her time was better suited looking out for herself.

"Yes. I was in Chicago yesterday and I...well my mother left me a letter that I should come here to find safety, that you and she were friends. I'm not looking for any handouts, I work hard and would contribute to the family. I'm just not sure where else to go and this doesn't seem the ideal time to be running around the country looking for work."

She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, her hands clutching her bag in front of her as she waited. Worse case scenario she would be told there was no space for her in his crew and she'd be out on the street. Well no, there was always worse, but she was trying to be a little less morbid these days.

Tony looked at Olivia and listened to what she had to offer. Hard work was one of the things that he asked of his people over almost all else. Besides that it was loyalty and secrecy that mattered in his crew. He tapped his fingers on the desk slowly as he thought about it. For him it was hard to allow the daughter of Olivia Grey join the life of crime that got her killed. On the other hand it was hard for him to turn her out and see her end up somewhere else where they may not protect her or help her as much. He sighed....

"I think we can find a place for you here. If you work hard then you can keep it and we will see where everything goes from there. I know that if the blood of Olivia Grey runs through those veins that you will be able to accomplish great things." Tony stood up from his chair and walked around to sit on the edge of his desk.

"Now, even though I was friends with your mother and she had made her bones in Chicago. You will still need to prove yourself. I cannot show preferential treatment whether you are working hard or messing up. Until you've earned your way into being a TRUE member of this family, you will have to work just as hard as anybody else here. It will take time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears. Once you do though, you will find great satisfaction in living up to your mothers legacy. Maybe even surpass it."

Tony shouted for his bodyguard Alphonse to come into the office. Once inside he stood at attention and waited for his orders.

"Olivia, this is Alphonse. He will show you to your room here at Villainy Incorporated Headquarters. You may stay there until you find your own place to live. Feel free to do with it what you want. Whether you want to fully redecorate or just add a few personal touches. If you want new furniture then just let Alphonse know and he will get you the cash for it."

Tony smiled and motioned that they may both leave to go check out the room....
