Bensonhurst, Brooklyn Fresh Start Started by: Brancer on Feb 19, '18 06:49

Brancer’s apartment building was in the heart of Bensonhurst on 18th avenue. He loved this neighborhood in Brooklyn. He grew up just on the outskirts on 14th. This particular apartment building wasn’t anything too special, but that is just the way he had picked it. It was a nine story building filled mainly with families and a few elderly widow’s that Brancer would sometimes bring fresh fish back for when he had been to the docks in hopes they’d make him a decent meal. He lived on the second floor first door to the right off the flight of stairs. Next to him on the adjoining wall were Sully and Donovan. They were his two main hired hands and tough as they come. He felt good knowing they were always close by if need be. His driver Danny had an apartment on the first floor. He wanted his driver as close to the door as possible.

His apartment itself was nice enough. He had two bedrooms and a living space. The kitchen wasn’t anything special, but he didn’t do a lot of cooking anyways. It had practically been turned into a full bar at this point. He often wondered what he was ever going to do with his second bedroom. He had turned it into a poker room for now. He almost felt bad winning all the money on the regular back from his hired hands, though they didn’t want for much that’s for sure.

Brancer took his time getting ready today. He opted for a nice brown suit with a matching homburg hat. As he adjusted his blue tie he looked at himself in the mirror he had set up in his room. “Looking good Brancer, looking good.” He said with a chuckle. He took his hat off and looked at his hair. He ran his fingers through the black mess a few times and fixed it before throwing his homburg back on his head. “It seems as though I need to pay a visit down to Pailni’s.” It had been awhile since he had seen him and it would be nice to get his ears lowered a bit.

He walked over to the wall that separated his and his bodyguard’s apartments. He gave it three solid taps and within about thirty seconds there was a knock at his door. “Come in.” He said as Sully, a hulk of a man, stepped into the apartment shutting the door behind him quickly. “Yeah boss?” He asked knowing it was time for the day to get moving. Brancer didn’t like to sit in his apartment much at all unless it was poker night. “Should I have Danny pull the car around?” Brancer smiled and nodded. “Yeah, and tell him we will be headed to Pailni’s. Its time I cut this mop back into something presentable. Don’t you think Sully?” He said with a wink. “You could use a trim yourself. Hell we have all been looking a little rough lately.” “Course we could all use trim. I’ll get Danny and the car ready. Donovan will wait for you by the door.”

Brancer pulled his hat off and tried to fix his hair again with a shrug. He walked over to his makeshift bar and poured himself a glass of gin to start his day. Three fingers gin seemed to be just the right amount to get him out to the barbershop. He lit a cigarette and after a pull from it took down half the glass of gin. He smoked the cigarette down for a minute thinking about the stops he needed to make today. He had a couple of debts that just weren’t being paid back right to check in on today. He finished the cigarette and soon after the rest of the gin. As he sat the glass down he walked towards the door, almost forgetting to grab his gun on the way out. “Hope I don’t have to use this thing anytime soon.” He mumbled as he opened the door. Donovan was standing there waiting for him just outside the door. “All set Mr. Brancer?”
