Luca had come to LA with his wife Marie to join with the LA family after the death of his cousin in Chicago.  Luca's cousin had been a leader in Chicago's crime families and used to that influence to provide protection for Luca. Luca was never a member even though his cousin had tried recruiting him many times but Luca preferred to run his own operation and paid his respect to his cousin by sending him a share of the profits for the protection. When the war happened and Chicago fell things in Miami were heating up Luca decided it was time for him to join a family and get out of LA.

He sold off his smuggling operations and he and Marie headed west to LA. Joining with the newly appointed leader Adorkable he quickly went to work. In the beginning, he did work for the others of the family, collections, numbers running gambling. After a while, he started putting his own money on the streets as well as using his smuggling knowledge to help bring booze into LA businesses. 

Luca quickly starting making a life for himself and opening up his own business "Marie's" a traditional Italian restaurant. This business allowed him to sell booze and move and clean his cash from his other operations. Marie was buying a race track that would help them clean even more money and also allow them to have a legal gambling establishment. Luca, of course, would be running a loansharking business out of the track as well. 

Life was good for Luca and Marie. They were rising through the ranks and making money, the sky was the limit for them.
