KoNvIcT listened to the waves crashing onto the large boat,which contained many foreigns from the old country. KoNvIcT lay on his bunk, examining his arms and legs of all his war scars. How long ago was that, he thought. KoN thought the waves were soothing, and he soon found himself in a deep sleep. Dreaming of what had caused him to be on the ship to New York.

"Mother....Mother." KoNvIcT called, as he ran into his tiny home, gasping for air. "What is it?" His mother asked, a worried expression on her face. "Father....He...he" KoNvIcT paused, "He just got shot." KoN's mother gasped. "It was Pablo Binicci... They were talking about business, and then one minute I saw Pablo pull out a gun,and I took off running. I heard two gunshots and saw papa fall to the ground."

KoN's mother was now in tears. "We have to get out of here, we have to--" KoN stopped when he heard a vehicle stop in the front of the house and a car door open. KoN held up his finger to his lips,when all of a sudden a loud BANG! rang, and glass began shattering. Then more gunshots...Must be an automatic. KoN thought to himself. The two jumped to the ground, and laid still until the gunshot's stopped.

Once KoNvIcT found it safe, he moved from his position on the ground to the front window to make sure they were gone. It was clear. He then rushed to his mother, which he noticed had a gushing wound in her chest. "Mama..." KoN said, holding her head into his lap. "You must..." She paused to cough up blood, "Go to New York...You must go...You're not safe here any longer...A boat leaves here tonight...Until then, I want you to lay low, at Rico's house." Rico was KoN's cousin.

"Ok mama....I love you." He said, as he kissed her on the forehead and rushed out into the streets.




KoNvIcT jumped up from his slumber, covered in cold sweat... He looked out of the ships window to see the sun rising...The boat would be stopping soon... KoNvIcT stood up and put on his coat, and made his way to the deck, which was covered with Italian's waiting to step foot into America. The boat stopped, and KoNvIcT was quick to run out to be one of the first out, so not to wait for all the others. As he laid his foot onto American soil, he said to himself, "This is my new life."

Whatsername had received word from an old friend back home, Rico, that a young man named Kon was on his way to New York. She was asked if she could help this gentleman get on his feet when he arrived on the shore. She asked one of her trusted men to see that Kon was greeted at the dock and made to feel at home in New York.

After a short wait cola-man came through as she knew he would. He walked into the building with Kon trailing. Whatsername smiled and welcomed the new man to New York.

"It's a pleasure to work for you and to work with the rest of the crew as well, Whatsername. I hope I can accomplish great things here in New York working under you."


And with that, KoNvIcT walked and talked to cola_man, learning the ropes of This thing of Ours.

He wanted to make his boss proud so he was telling Kon every thing he wanted to know about the way we work and helping him feel at home here in New York
