From Boxer To Mobster Started by: Jack_Mcgurn on Mar 13, '18 06:55
Jack Mcgurn was walking down the busy Brooklyn street of Fulton Avenue, when about three shots rang into the city air. Everybody screamed and ran in panic, but not Jack he was used to that kind of commotion. This was a regular kind of day for this Italian-American mobster. As people were running past him in every direction a small child about 9 or 10 years old tripped and fell on his face right in front of Jack, his book bag spilling everywhere. The poor young man looked up at Jack with his wide light brown eyes for about two seconds before he scurried to his feet and took off in fear again. Jack looks down to see a interesting title on a book the child had left behind, “ From Boxer To Mobster.” He picks up the book and continues down the street. Once he found a bench at the trolly stop he sat down and began to read.

Vincenzo Gibaldie was born on July 2nd, 1902 in Sicily, Italy. His father died when Vincenzo was only four years old. His mother decided to migrate to America in hope of a better life for Vincenzo. In 1906 the family arrived in Brooklyn, New York. Not soon after his Mother got married to a Chicago man and began the new life she dreamed of.

At a young age Vincenzo loves to fight by the time he was ten years old he was in boxing classes, but that didn’t stop him from getting bullied at school by the local gangs. He had to fight everyday to protect himself. Until one day his mother decided it was best for them to leave New York and go with the new love of her life back to his home town in Chicago.

Italian boxers did not get anywhere in Chicago. Vincenzo realized this when he was in a boxing match with a Irish American and the crowd went wild for the Irishman even after Vincenzo beat him in the second round. At this point Vincenzo Gibaldie would start to go by the boxing name of Jack Mcgurn.

“Excuse me Jack do you happen to have a light a soft voice says from the sidewalk.”
Jack looks up and sights his boss Briya standing in front of him holding a cigarette.
“It’s unlike you to be smoking boss.”
as he is pulling out a book of matches.
“It’s unlike you to be sitting in the middle of the city reading.”
They both laughed.
“What are you reading anyway Jackie.”

“Nothing just a interesting book I found on the sidewalk”
Jack holding the book up so Briya could see.

“ Don’t think to hard I’m going to need you back at the compound in about an hour.”
Jack nodded and opened the book back to where he left off.

After Mcgurn got his reputation in his boxing career he was approached by a local enforcer for Jonny Torrio, His name was Al Capone. Capone wanted to hire Jack as a enforcer for the bootleg business, to protect the shipment drivers. Jack respectfully denied knowing that it would get in the way of his upcoming career in boxing. Later that night Jack over heard his mother and stepfather stressing over how to pay Bugs Moran a local enforcer for a Irish crew on the north side ran by dean o’ banion. He couldn’t believe his step father was being extorted. The next week he realized that he had to take the job with Capone to help his family pay the extortion money.

Capone sent Jack on a few bootleg runs where jack occasionally had to rough up hijackers or policemen. After a few weeks Mcgurn got his first paycheck from Al, on his way home he seen police all round his step fathers shop and his mother crying on the sidewalk. He ran over there frantically only to see his step father has been shot multiple times in the head and chest. Although he told the police that Bugs Moran was behind it, they must have been paid off because they didn’t seem to care. That was when jacks mindset changed and will later become one of the most ruthless murderers in mob history.

Jack McGurn moved up the ranks of the Chicago Outfit and became a mademan in no time. During this time O’ Banions northside gang was at war with the Outfit and attempted to assasinate the leader of the outfit Jonny Torrio. While Torrio was in the hospital he appointed Capone as the new Don of The Outfit in 1924. Capone wasted no time ordering Jack to come with him to Dean O’ banions flower shop on the north side. Once inside Jack and Capone said nothing to Dean. Capone just lifted his revolver and shot O’ banion twice in the head.

For the next couple years Capone and Bugs Moran went at it. There were a lot of casualties from both sides of the crews. Then one day Capone sat Jack down and gave him a list of 3 names that were the enforcers that killed his step father. Jack was furious starting a fight with Capone for withholding this information from him.

Moran attempted a hit on Jack in March 1928 for his part in the killing of O’ Banion. Mcgurn was shot once in his ribs, and recovered fairly quickly. That is when he started plotting the most violent murder in mob history, St. Valentines Day masacre.

On February 13th Jack approached one of the biggest alcohol distributors for Bugs Moran at gunpoint demanding that he set up a huge shipment to Moran. The distributor did and the plan was set, with a order that Bugs Moran would have to come to make sure it went down smooth. On February 14th 1929 the truck was off to make the delivery at Morans warehouse in Lincoln Park, Chicago. Moran was stuck in traffic so he was running late to the meet. Once the truck arrived Moran’s crew started to unload it into the warehouse, That is when 4 men exited the Cadillac across the street two were dressed as police officers and in the other two was Jack Mcgurn holding a Thompson machine gun. The police dressed men entered first getting everyone to face the wall with their hands up. That is when Jack came in and emptied 50 rounds from the tommy gun into the 7 nothside crew men. Then dropped the machine gun and had the other two men dressed as policemen escort him out as if he was under arrest.

Jack “machine gun” Mcgurn was later questioned about the murders but had an alibi that he was with his girlfriend all day. After all it was Valentine’s Day. When the media asked him why he was arrested he replied “Tell them I was arrested for carrying concealed ideas.” It is now 1930 and nobody has any idea where Jack Mcgurn has went, Maybe he had family or friends back in Brooklyn, NY or maybe he went back to Italy?

Jack chuckled to himself threw the book onto the sidewalk, lit a cigarette and started heading back to briya’s compound.
