The chipped ceramic mug warmed Amelia’s hands, the chamomile tea inside a pale, golden invitation to calm. Outside, the wind howled a discordant symphony against her eaves, rattling the old windows like maracas. It was the kind of night that demanded you stay indoors, preferably with a book and a cat. Amelia, unfortunately, had neither. She was visiting her grandmother’s cottage in the Yorkshire Dales, a place steeped in the kind of quiet that felt both comforting and unsettling. She’d come to escape, to silence the relentless hum of city life, the endless notifications, the unspoken expectations. But escape, she was learning, often came with its own kind of disquiet. Amelia glanced at the clock on the mantlepiece. 1:17 AM. Sleep was an elusive visitor tonight. The wind kept carrying strange sounds – a mournful sigh, a low rumble, the skittering of something small across the roof. She’d initially dismissed them as the house settling, but the uneasy feeling in her stomach persisted. Sighing, she placed the mug on the worn wooden table. Maybe a walk would help. The idea was illogical, probably unwise, but the stillness of the cottage was starting to suffocate her. Pulling on her thick wool coat and boots, she cautiously opened the front door. The air was sharp and cold, biting at her exposed skin. The moon, a sliver of silver in the inky sky, offered little illumination. Armed with only the faint beam of her phone’s flashlight, she stepped onto the overgrown path leading away from the cottage. The wind whipped around her, carrying the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves. Each rustle, each snap of a twig under her boots, made her heart pound in her chest. She wasn't sure where she was going, just that she needed to move. She walked for what felt like an eternity, the world around her a tapestry of shadows. Then, she saw it – a faint glow emanating from a small, overgrown copse of trees. Curiosity trumped her fear. Pushing aside branches, she found a clearing. In the center, nestled amongst the tangled roots of an ancient oak, was a small fire. Not a roaring blaze, but a gentle, flickering ember that pulsed with a warm, golden light. And beside it, huddled in a worn, patched blanket, sat an old woman. The woman looked up, her face a road map of wrinkles etched by time and weather. Her eyes, however, held a surprising depth and warmth. She offered Amelia a small, hesitant smile. “Lost, are you?” she rasped, her voice like dry leaves crunching underfoot. Amelia, surprised, could only nod. The woman patted the ground beside her. “Come, sit. The fire is a good friend on a night like this.” Amelia hesitantly approached, grateful for the unexpected invitation. She sat down, the warmth of the fire seeping into her chilled bones. They sat in comfortable silence for a while, the only sound the crackling fire and the whispering wind. Finally, Amelia spoke. “I…I don’t understand. Who are you?” The old woman chuckled, a soft, melodic sound. “Some call me the Keeper of the Wild. Others, just Agnes.” She gestured with her hand towards a small pouch lying at her feet. “I collect the lost things, the forgotten things. The things that have strayed.” She reached into the pouch and pulled out a smooth, grey stone. “See this? It was lost in the river, tumbled and worn, forgotten by the current. But now,” she said, holding it up to the firelight, “it's found.” Amelia looked at the stone, then at the woman, her heart suddenly lighter. She understood, on some level, what Agnes meant. She, too, had felt lost, tumbled around by the current of her life. She, too, had strayed from her path. Agnes smiled again, a knowing, gentle smile. “Sometimes, child,” she said, “being lost is the only way to find yourself.” The wind seemed to soften its howl, the shadows to recede. Amelia stayed with Agnes by the fire until dawn painted the sky in hues of pink and orange. Then, she rose, feeling strangely refreshed, strangely found. She thanked Agnes and made her way back to the cottage, the path feeling lighter beneath her feet. She never saw Agnes again, but the memory of that night, of the fire and the quiet wisdom of the Keeper of the Wild, stayed with her. It was a reminder that sometimes, the most unexpected places can be where you find yourself, and that even being lost can lead you home. And sometimes, a random night walk can be the start of a whole new chapter. |

Sat on a train that is a bit too warm, drink a coffee that is a bit too hot still. And sat in a chair that seems to be slightly the wrong level of recline, not reclined enough to actually comfortably lean back. But hey ho, at least they have bacon sandwiches |

I just beat slay the spire for the first time in a while. I got it back when it was in alpha and it seams like the game has come a long way. I'm excited to see if I can beat it with some of the other classes now. I'd recommend this game to anyone who liked rougelikes. |

I'm at work and wishing I was home playing Rebirth. It sucks getting older and having responsibilities. Plus the ticking clock that is your life seems to be running faster and faster each day. |
