If you're ever wondering when to use a semicolon, aka the famous "comma with a hat". which is ";"...

Generally speaking, you would use a semicolon when you have two complete sentences on either side that you want to link to each other.

For example: 

The man paced silently in the hallway; his target continued to snore in her bed.

Usually, commas are used to link fragments to a sentence, while semicolons are used to link two similar complete ideas.
