Tommy woke up Sunday morning feeling like a heroin addict. His head was pounding against his skull and he felt every movement like weights were strapped to his veins. Tommy had spent the night before at the local club and then the house of the girl which he couldn't manage to kick off his ass in the town he was rolling. After coffee, eggs, and toast, he slams the voicemail button on the phone. A rugged, cigarette-obsessed voice says, "You really did it now Tommy.....You've got half of New York breathing down my neck and the uppers are about as close to a off-order as you are to being an alcoholic. You better fix this shit and you better fix it now." Oh man, thinks Tommy, I barely got my coffee down and already they're shoving this shit down my throat. It was the last thing he wanted to happen from the deal but he knew it was probably inevitable. The voice on the phone was Elijah, a long time friend of Tommy. Elijah was always there for Tommy, through thick and thin, through loss and gain, and in times of incredible hardship. The most recent hardship that Tommy was involved in however, could literally be a matter of life and death. Tommy was offered a job in New York for the Bolio Family, a little known crew that manages a few suburban centers throughout the city. The job was supposed to be a simple roll on a Thug who didn't pay his damned taxes. Little did Tommy know, that Thug who didn't pay his taxes was family to the Don in downtown New York. Needless to say, Tommy is in a little bit of a pickle and the Bolio Family isn't claiming the job. Tommy is on his own. Elijah came into the picture when Tommy tried to explain the situation to the Don that he didn't know he had just off'd a made man nor did he know that he was family to the Don or that the taxes were supposed to have been cleared due to a 6-digit drug deal. Elijah was a dealer for the Don and offered to make double the earnings for the Don that he normally would in order to clear Tommy's name. As the Don considered this offer, Tommy spoke up, saying, "Sir, I would've never taken the job had i known the circumstances. I ask for your forgiveness and in return i will be in debt to you until you say otherwise." The Don certainly liked this kid Tommy. Not because of his actions, but because of his clear loyalty and willingness to do what it takes to clear his name and keep his bosses tame. The don replies, "Tommy, I like you kid. The problem is, you fucked up. I have every right in the world to kill you right now and the only reason I haven't is because I feel like you're telling the truth. The Bolio Family has never enjoyed my work or my company, however, i never thought they would take their hatred this far is such an idiotic manner. The only way to clear this up is for you to repay the favor to the Bolio Don. I'm ordering you to kill his son. If you deny this, you won't ever walk out of this club. If you accept, it must be done immediately to ensure that you aren't trying to roll me over and skip town. How do you want to proceed?" Tommy can sense the surreal vibe in the room. Everyone in the room is ready to pull a trigger on Tommy for his actions. He tells the Don, "I'll do it. It's not like i have a choice, right? Just tell me where to find him and it'll be done regardless of the consequences." Later that evening, around 9p.m. , Tommy spots Jim, the Bolio don's son, stepping out of his Mercedes 260D in a dark red suit and black dress plants at Lulo's night club. He has a misses with him wearing a bright pink dress and a vibrant white pearl necklace. Elijah, who drove Tommy to the location, comments that being the son of a don has it's advantages and clearly as is the situation now, has it's disadvantages. Tommy opens the car door and climbs out, stuffing his revolver under his black vest. Elijah stays in the car, knowing that Tommy can handle himself in a pinch. Tommy approaches the entrance to the club, trying to appear as casual and ready to spend money a possible. The doorman opens the door as Tommy passes through and Tommy hands him a five dollar bill. The doorman gives his thanks and wishes him an exciting time. "Quite the exciting time I'm about to have" thinks Tommy malevolently. The club is extremely vibrant and high class, bordered in red and black walls and decorated tile flooring. There are circular booths set up in no particular fashion throughout the club. Tommy walks towards the bar and orders a drink, noticing that Jim has sat down in a booth in the furthest corner of the club surrounded on either side by his misses and two other beautiful women. On either side of the women are two men dressed similarly to Jim, indicating business partners most likely. Tommy finishes his drink and asks the bartender to send Jim his regards along with a round of drinks for everyone at his table. The bartender makes his way over to Jim with the drinks and Jim happily waves at Tommy, inviting him over to speak for a moment. Tommy approaches the table, taking care to appear very excited to see Jim. All Tommy could really think about was what was about to happen to this man. Jim tells Tommy, "Tommy! How nice to see you! It's been too long, you know? How's that situation with our friend in New York?" Tommy replies, "Our friend has let the problem slide, seeing as how it was your father's fault and all." Jim considers the words that just came out of Tommy's mouth. "You know Tommy, you have quite a way with words and i would've expected you to be more grateful for all the work we've given you." Tommy knows what he has to do. This little prick needs this anyways. He reaches to his waist and quickly pulls his vest back and grips his revolver, raising it eye level with Jim and pulls the trigger. Jim's forehead explodes with red and massive chunks of skin and muscle. The ladies around him scream and clamber to get underneath the table. Tommy quickly pulls the trigger two more times and the other two men fall over in the booth, dead. Tommy runs as fast as he can out of the club, pushing the doorman to the ground and running to the car where Elijah remained waiting. "Well well Tommy. You really did it!" The New York don seemed to have forgot all about his dead family member and now focused entirely on how happy he was to have hurt Bolio so deeply. Tommy says "Sir, I'm relieved that you are pleased with my work. I want to again apologize for your nephew and offer my condolences. I sincerely hope that this covers the problem. Also, I couldn't have gotten away with only spotting Jim, I had to nab his partners that were with him because it was impossible to tell what reaction they might've had to what i had done." "That's all fine Tommy, the work is done. Now I've got some other important business to tend to, if you'll excuse me." Tommy sits in his leather armchair at his New York apartment, sipping his whiskey and smoking a cigarette. Elijah is in the kitchen, cutting up a loaf of salami for some late dinner. The phone rings. Tommy answers the phone, expecting it to be Sal, the dealer he was waiting on to come thru with his new batch of dope. The voice on the other end of the phone sent a deathly shiver down his spine. It was Bolio. He says "Tommy....Tommy I thought you were better than this lowly fuckin' bullshit. I hope you have funeral and burial arrangements because I'm setting your feet in cement you little bastard piece of useless shit." The line goes dead. Elijah says "Who was it Tommy? Did Sal finally set the pipe down or is he still-" "No Elijah..that was-" Before Tommy could finish, the door to his apartment smashed to the floor and slid across the apartment. Bullets rang out from a sub-machine gun and before anyone could blink twice, the entire apartment was covered in blood and death. Elijah jumped behind the iron stove to take cover. He frantically reaches for his revolver but before he would take it out, a gigantic man dressed in black jumps on his kneecaps and they snap and crack into a hundred shards inside of his skin. Elijah screams in pain but the big man stuffs a rag down his throat and tells him to shut the fuck up. Elijah stops but the pain is too much and he sits there, tears rolling down his face and shaking back and forth to attempt anything to not think about the pain. The man slams his fist into Elijah's nose and Elijah blacks out. Elijah wakes up in incredible pain. He's been drugged and there's a bag over his head. He can feel wind blasting against his vest. "He's awake, boss!" yells a voice trying to be heard over the sound of the wind. Someone kicks Elijah in the back and he is pushed over. There's no ground under his face and he can tell he is on the edge of something. He has to put forth effort to lean back and keep from inching over the edge of whatever edge he was on. The bag is removed from his head and his eyes take a moment to adjust to what he's seeing. He looks down, seeing the side of a building and a road about a hundred yards down. "They've got me on the roof of a building and they're going to push me off" Elijah says to himself mentally. He waits for someone to say something. He hears Bolio's voice "You really fucked up kid. Just as bad as Tommy. Now you pay the price." Elijah is pushed off the edge, but doesn't scream. He knows no amount of screaming will save him now. His body splatters against the sidewalk below the building and blood sprays everywhere. Bolio knows that no more trouble will come from that group of unruly bastards but can't help but feel like all this death is just unwarranted. If they had never killed his son, everything would be fine. He wonders what made them do it. "What did my precious boy do to these idiots?" he ponders. Nobody ever found out the involvement of the New York Don and Bolio forever cherished the memories of his beloved son. This story is meant to highlight the sequence of events that often folded out in the 30's. Nobody ever found out who was really responsible for what. Innocent people were often killed because the blame was often laid upon others. |
