The car slowed to a stop, snapping her back to reality. Her mind kept wandering today, between the excitement and the stress, she could barely focus. However, after a long few months of work, the day had finally come. It was more than just a "business," it was a testament to her family history, to the cities history. "The HM's Social Club," was big during it's heyday within the ranks of "this thing of ours," and today it would open it's doors once again.
She stepped out of the car, and gazed at the two story building in front of her.
It was nothing that would jump out at you, but that was a plus to her. She lit a cigarette, glanced around, and walked into the establishment.
Adorned on the wall, was a greeting to the patrons, one that had been there since the first day these doors opened.
-:-Greeting-:-
This greeting to you, one and all we gladly do extend!
You honor us by coming here, and act just like a friend!
We thank you, still our gratitude, we can't express in words!
Tis up to you! Enjoy yourself! Be merry boys and girls!
And make yourself at home, Boys; Let the Girls do the same.
Don't be a dead one, be alive! And get right in the game,
And when the band plays "Home, Sweet Home,"
and homeward you do stray,
"We'll not forget that dance," is what we hope you'll say,
Our "Advertisers" also: We thank them one and all,
and trust that you, our patrons, will tender them a call,
We've tried them and have found them, to do just as they say:
Their goods and all their prices, you'll find to be O.K.!
-:-The COMMITTEE-:-
As she passed through the "foyer," she made her way into the main room. A mahogany bar adorned the back wall, filled to the brim, with the finest liquors and beers. There was a seating area of to the right, a few tables and chairs for a game of cards, or a quiet talk. The walls were adorned with Mafia memorabilia; photos of old school mobsters who paved the way for, "this thing of ours."
The floor upstairs, contained a few rooms for guests that needed to stay the night, or a place to do business. The basement was the storage space for the kegs, bottles, and other supplies. There was also a room off to the back, that would be perfect for any "sit downs," that arose.
She made her way to the bar, she could barely contain her excitement, a smile spread across her face.
"I'll take the usual, place looks great," she said to the bartender.
"Doesn't it? The boys did some good work restoring everything. I think you out did yourself on this one, MS."
Bartender poured a glass of scotch and placed it in front of MS, and retrieved an ashtray from under the bar.
"Thanks; rest of the staff ready for the first day?" she asked.
"Nope, but they'll manage," he laughed.
"They'll have too," she smiled.
She looked around one last time, taking it all in. It was mesmerizing to think of all the history this building had seen. She raised her glass to the empty room, and took a sip.
"To Old memories, and to the New", she thought to herself.
