Martini's hand trembled as she poured sugar into her coffee. Not even the morning chatter of the dinner could keep her nerves down. She pushed all her thoughts out of her head as her food came. Her mother always told her she would have a good day if she started it out in a good way. That's all Martini wished for at the moment, a good day, but it wasn't happening. Her breakfast sat heavily in her stomach as she faced the harsh wind. Maybe eating wasn't the greatest of ideas as her stomach turned in on itself. Martini took refuge from the chill in a telephone booth. She slipped change into the greedy slot and phoned up a close friend. Whoever was on the other end did not know how to speak english or know how to tell someone they had a phone call. A few seconds after Martini had been put on hold the phone clicked and a dial tone spun it's way through the phone. She dug in her pockets and gave the money eater what it wanted. Hi, no don't talk. I just called, I wanted to speak to Eddy. Ohhhhh Eddy isn't in. Are you sure? Well I guess we'll just have to see about this little problem later. Martini hung up the phone and checked the change return out of habbit. She sighed as her hand came out with nothing, not even a lucky penny. She really needed one today. Pulling up her coat sleave her watch read 10:30. Martini walked back to the dinner she had just left. It might have been a little noisy, but the coffee was good and the place was warm. The same waitress brought her some coffee again. Back already? The waitress's red lipstick open into a sweet smile. Martini told her she was waiting for a friend and feared frost bite if she waited outside. Ah yes, the winter chills, I think this is one of the coldest we've gotten in a couple of years. Good idea staying in here hun, let me know if you need anything. The waitress said with a wink and walked away. Martini dared herself to stop the waitress and ask her if she had any pot, but she really didn't need the cops in her way when she had business to take care of. Eddy owed Martini some money, some drug money. Said he would get it to her yesterday, but no one showed up. Now she was on the hunt for Eddy, she had something to give him. Martini sat in the booth for a few minutes before another idea popped into her head. She had sold drugs to a chick named Jordan in these parts before. Maybe Jordan knew Eddy or where he hung out while trying to evade the cops or worse. Martini paid the waitress once again and caught a cab downtown to the address Martini always dropped the drugs at. |

Jordan left Zig-Zag's office with information he told her weighing heavily on her mind. Over the years she was careful about covering up her work in the organized crime business, but the local authorities recently found out she was connected to Oliver_McTavish when they saw her leave a wedding with him. The authorities would have busted her for drug dealing and closed down her new business, The Chicago Butcher Shop if it wasn't for Zig-Zag's contact in the city inspector's office. Damn that wedding! Jordan cursed quietly as she walked towards her car in the parking lot next to The Jackles Lounge. Two children ran past her, one chasing the other in a game of tag. Hey! Stop running around here. You should be playing in a park, not in a casino parking lot. The two kids stopped near Jordan's car as she took her keys out of her purse and continued talking to them. Here's some more advice for you. Never ever get married. Weddings and marriage are nothing but trouble. Jordan despised the institute of marriage. To her it seemed worst than jail. It might be comforting to have someone to go home to everyday, but Jordan didn't feel like happily ever after was cooking, cleaning and answering to a man. She was too independent for that. She liked the kind of relationship she had with Johnny. They were both free to work and live their lives without feeling obligated to call each other a dozen times a day. When Jordan arrived back at the butcher shop she noticed a police car parked across the street. Fucking cops, she thought and shook her head. She would have to do less dealing out of her shop now that they knew she worked for Oliver. As she tried to figure out how she would rearrange the deliveries and sales of drugs she normally did in the butcher shop a taxi stopped near her car and a woman got out. Jordan recognized her immediately. It was one of her suppliers, Martini. She was Jordan's best connection to drugs in New Orleans, but Jordan wasn't expecting a delivery from Martini today. She wondered why the supplier was there. It wasn't to collect money from Jordan. She always paid Martini up front for any drugs she bought. Worried about the police who were watching the shop Jordan quickly got out of her car and approached Martini on the side walk. Hello Martini, good to see you again. Jordan stepped closer to her and quietly spoke. I can't do any business here today. We're being watched by Chicago's finest across the street. I'll meet you at the shoe store on the corner in thirty minutes and I'll buy whatever you have. The cops won't suspect we're breaking any laws while shopping for shoes. Jordan smiled and winked at Martini then turned to wave at the police men across the street before she walked into her butcher shop. |

Martini watched Jordan walk into her butched shop after waving to the undercover car parked across the street. She pulled up her sleeve once more and checked the time. It was now eleven thirty, took her twenty minutes to get across town. Martini sighed as she was dying to give Eddy a piece of her mind, but it could wait. Plus shoe shopping would cool her head and let her work out what she wanted to do to Eddy. Martini moved towards the shop next to Jordan's place. The sign in the window read Nancy's Beauty Salon. Martini shrugged and pulled open the door. It would look a little suspicious if Martini hopped into a cab as soon as Jordan approached her on the street. She didn't need anyone trailing her, plus she needed to kill some time. Twenty minutes later Martini stepped out of the place looking like a whole new person. The girls had a grand time making her over, as Martini had no idea how she wanted her hair and told them to do whatever they wanted. Her mood dimmed a little as she looked up and down the street and saw no taxi. 'How can this be?' She wondered to herself and then spotted the unmarked car in the same spot. Quickly she crossed traffic and taped on the drivers window. The window creaked as it went into hiding, a man leaned out. Hey hunny, what can I do for you? Martini wrapped her jacket closer to her body and bent over so she could give the police officer a smile. Well I seem to be in a fix. I had a cab drop me off her just twenty minutes ago so I could get my hair done. Martini paused and fixed a strand of golden hair that had come undone. I asked the gentleman that had let me off if I would have trouble finding a cab home. He assured me that I wouldn't, but now I think he was just looking for a bigger tip. The girls in the shop were gossiping about how you fella's are undercover cops, doing a big mob stake out. Gosh if that's true you must lead a very exciting life and I'd hate to ask you such a favor, but I seem to have no other choice. At this point Martini knew she had already charmed both men as they didn't argue about her knowing they were undercover. The man on the driver side ushered Martini to continue. I will loose everything I just had done to my hair if I don't get out of this cold soon. I was wondering if you find gentlemen of the city could give me a lift downtown. Martini almost lost it at that. Asking a cop to bring her downtown, but she managed to keep her laughter within. They jumped at the chance right away, the man on the other side of the car even got out and opened the door for her. Silly boys, if only they knew. Martini figured this would also be perfect for Jordan, she would have a chance to sneak away from her shop without anyone following her. The ride over to the shoe shop was short and when they opened her door again to let her out they reassured her that she would be able to flag down a cab on this side of town. Thank you so much again and I'm sorry if I pulled you away from your work. Martini said and waved them off. As soon as they turned the corner Martini walked into the shoe shop. She quickly found Jordan trying on a pair of cute pumps. When Jordan saw Martini shock fell into her expression. Did I just see you get out of the undercover car? Jordan hissed. Martini nodded and let a smile slip across her lips. Why would I pay a cab when I could get a free ride? |
