Who Murdered Lord Richard Darlington Started by: Kelly on May 20, '18 10:06

A week ago, I hadn't even heard of Lord Richard Darlington. But after a week of investigating his murder, his ominous estate and his contrived friends and guests, I have gotten to know the man and his secrets better than anyone. But I'm getting ahead of myself, the facts must be written down before I can jump to the conclusions.

He had invited several guests to spend the week at his Estate in the Austrian Alps. Suffice to say the relationship with several guests had been stressed to begin with. Secrets and money as well as affairs and the like. It seemed to me that every guest had something to hide. These guests had seen an opportunity to cover up their sinister motivations of personal gain under the pretext of the Lord’s social gathering. And as he tried to win their hearts and minds, so did a murderer take his and made sure it would never beat again.

Although I'd never met the Lord before his death, I'd still like to write down the facts regarding the lord: Richard Darlington, age 47, was a pale thin man with a very small moustache, dark eyes and dark neatly combed hair. He was often seen in a neat tux, but wore a red suit the day he died. He had been married to Catherine Wentworth, a minor lady by descend, for twenty years and he had several femme fatale mistresses that his wife pretended not to know off. Due to his personal charm and restless wit he became an accomplished business tycoon in the textile industry during the early thirties. Many of his guests described how he generally positioned himself in the centre of attention; I've always pictured him smoking cigars and drinking scotch while bragging business or hunting stories in front of his audience.

The Darlington family was never a house of any importance however, and most of the finance had resulted from business successes. His wife had assured me that his quest to become an accepted person of nobility had become an obsession over the last few years. Allegedly, it was her father’s disapproval that was haunting the Lord from beyond the grave. Even in the moments before his death the late lord Wentworth had refused to acknowledge his stepson Richard as a true lord. I suppose this summer retreat had been a way to restore the family honour.

And now he is gone. Murdered by one of his guests. At one point in the investigation I thought they were all guilty of murder, even the dead lord himself doesn't seem that innocent anymore. To further the investigation, I shall describe all the suspects that were present at the place and time of the murder.”

I met her first in my questioning of the guests staying at Lord Darlington's estate. She seemed to be a nice enough girl, but it was obvious she was hiding something. Her looks and her charm were just a little overwhelming for her not to have some sort of "relationship" with the Lord, or so I suspect. She's tall, olive-toned skin, and the most striking green eyes you've ever seen. Her smile is filled the dazzling white teeth and beautiful, she also has the curves of a top model. The time I spent there, she wore nothing but fancy dresses and definitely looked upper-class.

Her reasons for being at the estate were, as she said, to catch up with an old friend and meet other people of the upper class, hopefully boosting her business; which she didn't ever really tell me what was. She said she was in the "distribution" business, distributing what is the question. Josephine insisted that the relationship was strictly platonic.

"I was not only good friends, as well as business partners with the Lord; but shared a friendship with his wife, as well. I would never do something to betray a friend."

I'm not sure at this point whether or not to believe that statement.
