Nothing ever happens in this town Started by: Kelly on May 20, '18 10:12

Nothing ever happened in Willow's Woods. Nothing interesting, anyway. It was an unusual thing for a Sheriff to wish for something to happen -- a crime, perhaps. An attempted robbery, or a small accident where no one actually got hurt. Even natural causes couldn't kill the older generation, with many living close to the three-figure mark. It had been three days since Frankie Dupraz, the recently promoted Sheriff, had had anything to do. In fact, the most productive thing he had did in the preceding month was finishing the large novel he had been given as a Christmas present three years ago.

A place like this brought on a recurring schedule that he couldn't quite break free from. Although having a fully-functional kettle in his house and kitchen in his house, Frankie was a regular at the local diner. With little to do during the day, he would make an appearance at least two or three times every day of the week, and that was a minimum. That was another thing -- he wasn't much of a coffee drinker in his old police job down south.

Sitting on a stool at the counter, Frankie placed the hot mug to his lips as he attempted to turn the page of his book with the same hand that was holding it in place. His multi-tasking failed, and he made it look a lot more complicated than it actually was. Eventually, he gave up and returned the mug to the counter and used both sets of fingers to do what one hand couldn't.

With the morning still young, Frankie -- sitting in his usual beige sheriff's attire and thick brown jacket -- was one of only two customers for now. He didn't know who the other man was. He didn't seem to be shaking, however, and going through cigarettes like breathing in tobacco were the only thing keeping him alive. A voice quickly broke the sheriff's stare.

"Morning sheriff," Kelly said as she walked over. Her black hair was pulled into a strict ponytail. She absently smoothed the hem of her black skirt. Her uniform was completely black. She was wearing a black skirt that stopped at her mid-thigh and a black strapless top. Her name tag was fastened on her left side of her bust and simply read "Kelly Logano Manager". She had the coffee pot in her hand as she poured the man next to Frankie a refill.

She set the coffee pot down and turned toward the sheriff with a smile. She used to the small town feel but she hadn't been here since she graduated from high school. Now she was back and she realized how boring it could be. She nodded to the sheriff's book.

"What are you reading?" She asked. Her cerulean blue eyes scanned the nearly empty diner. She was used to the hustle and bustle because she used to wait tables back when she was little. Now her parents had relinquished control to Allen and herself. Allen did most of the paperwork. She settled onto her own stool. Wearing the two inch heels and standing on her feet all day warranted her a few minutes of rest when it was basically empty.

She even had her own book stashed under the counter in case she got too bored. That was possibly the one reason she had wanted to leave in the first place. To do something exciting with her life. She'd come back though because at one point her father had gotten sick enough that someone needed to watch the diner. She had never dreamed that only a few short years after she left she'd be back.

Luckily there was never much going on this early in the day. She had basically a few period in which to let her mind wonder or to read. Then again she did have the occasional chat with someone she'd known since she was little. Her life had been normal but sometimes she'd always been a dreamer. The one thing she always wanted to know was if she could do something outside of this small town. She'd been close but home always had a way of bringing her back.
