Lucky decided that it was time to remember the fallen. With the number of people who lost their lives, there was no way to make it to all the funerals so he decided that Marie and he would drink to all the fallen as a way of paying respects. Plus they needed a night off with the war and setting up they needed to relax a little and blow off some steam and tension.

He grabbed a couple bottles of Tequila and headed over to Marie's new office.

He walked into her office and closed the door, he walked over and set the bottles down on the desk and sits down.

"Hows things going Marie?" he said to her.

Marie looked at the bottle and her eyes lingered for a bit.  Looking back at Lucky she asked, "Why Tequila?  You usually drink whiskey."  She stood up and opened the bottle before pouring herself and Lucky a drink.  She moved out from behind her desk and moved to give him his glass before leaning back against the edge of the desk.

"It seemed appropriate," he said as he took the glass from her.

Marie took a long deep breath and let it out slowly.  "To be honest I don't know how I am doing.  I have thrown myself at work like I usually do and there has been so much of it to do.  It is easier to just not let it all in.  So many lost."  She looked at the glass in her hand for a long silent moment and then she slammed about half of it in one shot.

"To all the fallen on both sides," he said raising his glass.

Lucky downed his drink and poured them both another.

"To Kathleen may she rest in peace," he said raising his glass again.

Marie nodded and raised her glass.  "To Kathleen, the fieriest red-head I have ever had the pleasure to know."  Marie drank the next shot and watched as Lucky filled it again.  She knew that at this rate it was not going to be long until she was drunk and right now that was exactly how she wanted it to be.  Tears welled up in her eyes as she raised the glass again.

"To RomanReign,  the man who took a chance on a nobody and saw me through to where I am today.  May he rest in peace."

"To Roman may he rest in peace," he said before downing his drink and refilling the glasses.

"so much fighting how did we make it?" he said before drinking his next drink and refilling the glasses.

Lucky headed to the couch bringing the bottle with him and signaled for Marie to follow. He knew at the rate they were going she would need to sit down. Hell, he needed to sit down his body was sore and tired from the long hour's countless flights of the past days.

Marie gladly followed him and sat down sideways with a leg tucked under her so that she could face him. “I honestly have no idea. It is all such a blur. It seems to large a thing to even procress. I got the news about Roman and...” The words would not come and she simply just shook her head in disbelief before drinking another shot. She winched and coughed a bit as it went down. “I just know that I would never had made it with out you”

She offered her glass to him to get more.

"I just did my job... what I have always done. Protect the ones I care about," he says before finishing his drink.

Lucky poured himself and Marie another then lit a cigarette.

"That was twice now I did not think I would survive. At least this time you promoted me," he says with a smirk.

She smiled and put her elbow on the back of the couch so that she could lean her head tiredly against her hand.  She could feel the effects of the alcohol start to come over her.  It was starting to numb her senses and that was a good thing.  "I am going to need you now more than ever.  There is so much work ahead of us."

Lucky watched as he could tell the alcohol was causing Marie to relax, it was causing him to finally calm down as well. Things had been moving at such a fast pace he did not know how they managed to get through it all.

"I am always here for you, you know that," he tells her in response.

"You and me the way it has been and should be," he says taking another shot. Lucky takes a drag from his cigarette before pouring another.

Marie reached out to take his hand in hers and she just held it as they sat silently for a while.  After a time Marie quietly spoke.  "Everything has changed hasn't it?"

Report Post Tip

Lucky sat there and held her hand not knowing what it meant if anything. They sat silently he finished another drink and his cigarette as he thought back to the last few days and all they had been through.

"the whole world has changed.we have changed, our positions in this thing of ours has changed. But some things, the important things never change" he said looking at her.

Lucky was feeling the alcohol in his system and it was starting to make him say things... or hint at things he knew he shouldn't. But times like these where death was on the doorstep made him unable to push away what he felt and wanted.

Lucky took a drink and tried to pull himself out of that place. He would not go there unless she started it. He would not do that again without knowing for sure where it would go.

Maria nodded, she was needing something solid to grab onto.  He was that something.  He had always been there for her even when she had pushed him away.  "I was wrong."  She said softly.  "In the end it did not matter.  All his bodyguards, his crews, his allies.  None of them had been able to protect him.  He was just as vulnerable to death as the rest of us."

Report Post Tip

He knew who she was talking about... Roman. Marie had thought that his position and protection would keep him safer than Lucky would be.

"This is the life we chose. With it comes danger and none of us are protected from that. All the forts, bodyguards, allies and crew tend to give a false sense of security. We have to remember that and always stay vigilant." he told her

Lucky slid next to her and held her. He knew she was hurting over all this.

Marie closed her eyes and laid her head against him. She had no idea how long they sat there in silence before she quietly told him, "I am sorry."
