Not Leaving by Mistake Started by: Mistake on May 23, '18 19:37

Mistake was on his way home after having a meeting with an old friend that let him know relationships had turned sour and London is no longer a safe place for him. He turned onto his street, dragging his feet as he approached his house. His mind working overtime as he wonders what his next move will be, he was low on money and no longer safe in his own city. Walking up his drive, just before he got to the door he started to hear footsteps coming from the side of the house. Instantly his heart rate increased, beginning to panic as he fumbled with his keys. His hand shaking, trying as best he can to get the key in the door and open it. The footsteps getting closer and closer!

Finally managing to unlock the door, he flung it open and sprinted into the kitchen. Opening the draw he pulled out his .357 magnum and fired off 3 shots towards the door, grabbing his journal before making his way to the back of the house. Two men entered the front door and responded with rapid fire from a Tommy gun. Knowing he is out-manned and out-gunned Mistake bolted out the back door to try and escape, spotting another armed man waiting around the back he let off another two shots in his direction and ran down the side of the house. Hopping over fence after fence and eventually out onto the street. His heart pounded as he just kept running until he physically can't anymore.

He found a payphone nearby and called up his friend, still catching his breath.

"What the fuck... is going on?! I've just been fucking shot at in my own house! You need to come get me."

"Mistake, there is nothing more we can do for you. You're on your own now."

At that very second, Mistake knew what was up. His protection was non-existent now, sold out by the very people he put all his trust in. He needed out, fast.

He made his way to a shabby looking hotel and paid for one night. Flicking through his journal, he came across a name and an American phone number... He remembered being given it a few days before, told he could call if he wanted a change of scenery for a while. Figuring he didn't have many other options, he decided to call it.

"Hello? Hazel speaking."

"Listen, I'm in a spot of trouble. I got this number from a reliable source and I could do with some help. I need to get out of London and I need a place to stay for a little bit until I can get back on my feet. I'll owe you one."

With that, Hazel hung up. Mistake could do nothing but sit back and hope, drinking from a bottle of Jack Daniels to take the edge off.

"Hello? Hello?"

The phone went dead or at least it seemed like it. This happened some times in the casino, it was something they needed to get fixed but wasn't super high up on the priority list. She would have just shrugged it off as another non important call but the urgency in the mans voice was something she hadn't experienced yet. She was also a bit intrigued by the situation at the same time, who in London needed her help? London of all places, a place she had never been. Hell she didn't even know anyone from London.

She sat there for a moment and tried to figure out how to get back in contact with whomever was on the other end. It took her a moment, until she realized that all calls coming into these upper offices had to be transferred to these lines. She just had to get in contact with the operator and reverse the call.

Immediately she picked up the phone and dialed down to the operator.

"Hey Georgina, it Hazel. I just had a call come up here. Was wondering if you could have us call it back somehow?"

"You mean that call from overseas?"

"Yes that's one, can you do that for me?"

"Of course, give me a moment."

Hazel held the phone up to her ear with her should, as took a file out of her drawer and began filing a couple of her nails. It took only a moment for the phone to begin ringing. It rang three times before someone picked up.

"Hello?" Hazel spoke up.

The mans voice replied back. "Hazel?"

"Yeah, its me. Who is this?"

"My name is Mistake, a colleague of yours gave me your name is I was ever in trouble and lady I'm in trouble."

"A colleague you say? Who?"

There was a bit of a hesitation on the other end before he blurted out the name.

"Listen, Hazel. I can't get into too much detail right now, however I have booked a flight out to Vegas. I am hoping you can sort out a place for me to stay for a while once I get there. My plane lands at 0800 hours on Tuesday, I won't be able to contact you until I get there."

Mistake hung up the phone and started packing his things, he didn't have much, just the essentials. He had a bad feeling about the whole situation, however it was his only option left.

The next morning he grabbed his stuff and left the hotel, heading for the airport. He had barely slept, bags under his eyes and a pale complexion accompanied his drunk stumbling and mumbling as he got into his car. He looked at himself in the rear view mirror and sighed to himself

"How the fuck did things get this bad Mistake?"

During his drive to the airport he had the feeling he was being followed, he blamed it on silly paranoia and lack of sleep... Either way, he kept his piece close by. He pulled into a gas station to grab a coffee, trying to sober up. As he was waiting for his coffee and looking at the newspapers he spotted a car pull into the gas station, he was certain this was the same car he saw a few miles back. Trying to brush it off, he picks up a paper and starts to read it, still looking out the corner of his eye at the car.

The clerk shouted over to him.

"Your coffee is ready, sir!"

"Wh...What?"

"Your coffee, sir..."

"Oh right, yes. Thank you"

Mistake walks up to the counter to get his coffee, his head turned looking at the car as two men in suits get out. It was at that moment he knew they wasn't just here for a coffee, he grabbed his gun from his waist and held it down by his leg as he moved slowly towards the door. The clerk went pale and hurried into the back.

Next thing mistake saw was one of the men raise his arm, then he heard a loud bang and glass shattering. It deafened him for a moment as he crouched, stunned. After the initial daze he came back to his senses, hearing another 2 shots before popping up and firing back. Mistake knew he could never come out on top in this position, so he stayed crouched and moved to the back of the gas station, locating the back door he went outside and around the side. Catching them off guard he managed to get 2 shots off, both hitting one of the men. He quickly crumbled to the floor, with very limited movement. The other returned fire but didn't hit, he kept shooting as he ran backwards to his car. Jumping in and driving off.

Mistake ran to his car, not even bothering to check on the man he just shot. He wanted out of here more than ever, he needed to catch the flight. The rest of the drive and check-in at the airport was a blur to him, his brain was completely fried. He used the flight to catch up on a bit of sleep.

Once he arrived at the airport, he waited at the main gate. Looking worse for wear and unsure if Hazel would even turn up.

She still wasn't quite sure what the hell was going on here. The man on the other end still didn't give her any clues to whom he was and what he actually wanted and or needed. Though she could sense the panic in his tone, it was a panic unlike anything else. It wasn't something that you could fake and if you could you might want to consider an acting career. This wasn't an acting man though, at least she didn't think he was. Then again maybe this was someone playing a trick on her.

Her mind began to work overtime as thought after thought went through it. Every scenario she could think of played out in her head. None of which she could pinpoint as being the actual reason for these phone calls.

The rest of the day and the rest of the night, this played out in her head. She barely had gotten any sleep and still was unsure if she was actually going to go to the airport at 0800 to pick up this guy. "Even if I went to pick him up, how would she know who he was?" She thought about that for a moment as she laid there in bed. She knew it would have probably been best if she had just ignored the situation in its entity but there was still something about it all that was intriguing.

Someone that got her name and was looking for her help. She had only been around the MGM Grand a couple days now and already people were reaching out to her as if she could help them. It was actually kind of amazing how quickly she had made a name for herself. Doll had given her a chance of a lifetime.

"Hmm, a chance of a lifetime." She thought to herself.

Maybe this was her moment to pay it forward. It was a marvelous idea, she would just make sure to bring some muscle with her to the airport, just in case. Feeling content with that decision Hazel closed her eyes and managed to get a couple hours of sleep.

The next morning after doing her morning ritual, she grabbed up a couple of guard and headed over to the airport. She left them in car and headed inside. She really wasn't worried about someone getting off a plane, they weren't allowed to bring any weapons aboard so the risk of getting shot was very low.

She still though wasn't sure what this guy looked like but figured she might be able to point him out if she saw him. Finding a spot against the wall she stood there just watching as people filed out of the terminal. One by one she watched as none of them seemed to fit the mobster build, that was until she saw him. She watched him for a moment, he kept of turning his head to the left and then to right as if he was looking for someone and he just had that gangster look. Though she just continued to stand there watching him, it did only take a matter of moments before their eyes locked on one another.

Almost instantly a smile went across his face, he slowly made his way towards her.

"Hazel?"

"You must be Mistake, come on I have a car waiting outside. I'm sure we have a lot to talk about."

Mistake followed Hazel, as he got closer to the car he noticed two men in the back seat. Hazel was walking a few steps in front of him, he slowly unzipped his bag and pulled out his gun that he had hidden in there. Gently placing it on Hazels back caused her to come to a complete stop.

"Lets not do anything stupid, Hazel. I need you to turn around slowly and act as if this is just a normal conversation. Okay?"

Hazel turned around slowly, the gun now placed against her stomach. She fearlessly takes a step closer to Mistake and gives him a stare of confusion and anger.

"You're right, Mistake. Lets not do anything stupid. Now tell me what the fuck you think you are doing?"

Mistake looks over at the car to make sure the two men hadn't noticed, then looks back at Hazel.

"Do you always like keeping two men in your car, or is today a special occasion? I don't fancy having my brains splattered onto the windscreen."

"The men are here for MY protection, I don't know you or what you wanted. You think I would just turn up alone to meet a strange man from another country?"

"Oh yeah? Seems they done a fantastic job! Hope you aren't paying them too well."

"Well go on then hot-shot, pull the trigger. What is your next move after that smartass? Even if you make it out of this car park alive... You're in a foreign country with no friends and no money!"

Mistake smirks then continues staring right into Hazels eyes, he knew she was right. Not only that, but Hazel was showing no signs of fear. The only look on her face was that of anger and disappointment. He realised at this point she really was there to help him. He slowly lowered the gun and turned it around, grabbing the barrel and offering it to Hazel.

"Listen, I'm sorry. The past few days have been hectic, it is hard to trust people right now. Take the gun, if my brains end up on that windshield, you will have to live with it. Not me."

With that hazel took the gun and put it in her purse, then they headed to the car and got in.

"Get me somewhere safe and I'll tell you everything you want to know."

Hazel was terrified with the feel of the gun barrel in her back. It was the first time anyone had ever pulled a gun on her and it wasn't a pleasant feeling. Even though she was terrified she composed herself and quickly defused the situation. In a sense she could understand why the guy was on edge but in the same aspect he was the one that called her and not the other way around.

The moment he handed her the gun a sigh of relief went through her core but she still maintained her composure. She motioned for the guards to get in the front seats.

"We will sit in the back, ok? This way you don't have to keep looking over your shoulder."

Hazel walked around the the backseat behind the driver side. The guard opened the door for her allowing her to step in before he closed in. She peered out the window towards Mistake who was still standing there, she motioned for him to get in. She could see he was still a bit hesitant, whatever happened to him over in London must have shook his nerves something fierce.

She shimmied over to the other side of the car and opened the door.

"Well? Are you coming or not? You know, I have a lot of shit to do today and waiting around here for you to decide if your getting in or not is hindering my day. So let's go, get your ass in the fucking car already."

The tone of her voice made him snap to his senses, he quickly got into the car and closed the door behind him.

"Alright Tony, let's head back to the MGM Grand."

She patted the guard in front of her on the shoulder, before turning her attentions back to Mistake.

"The casino is just a couple minutes up the road, we will be there soon. I have a room being held for you, nothing fancy but I assume at this point something is better then nothing. I don't even want to talk anything over right now, when we get there I will give you a key to the room. Please go shower and freshen up, take a nap do whatever. I have a couple things to do for the boss."

Mistake just smiled and nodded. The rest of the car ride was a pretty quiet one which only lasted a couple of minutes before they pulled up to the valet. Hazels door was opened for her as she stepped out. The doorman handed her a key, she pulled out a couple dollars giving him a tip. She motioned for Mistake to to come to her, when he did she handed him the keys.

"Room 314, there should be some clean clothes laid out on the bed. Multiple sizes of course just to make sure something would fit. I'll meet you up there in a couple of hours. Ok?"

Mistake took the keys and gave Hazel a nod, heading into the Casino he takes a look around. It was a lot more grand and classy than he was used to back in London. He headed over to the elevator and went up to his room. As he stood in the elevator his heart sunk and he quickly started patting himself down.

"Fuck..."

He realised that Hazel still had his gun, this made him feel uneasy. He was in a foreign place with no form of protection at all. Getting off the elevator he opened the door to his room, as Hazel had promised there was a range of clothes laid out on the bed. The room was an average size, rather plain, however he didn't need anything fancy at all.

Mistake went and had a shower, the first one in a few days. For a solid 5 minutes he just stood there under the shower, arm against the wall... Listening to the sound of the water hitting the tiles beneath his feet, he still couldn't believe this was happening. Getting out of the shower, he dried himself off a bit and wrapped the towel around himself as he looked around the room.

Spotting a telephone next to the bed, he went and sat next to it. Staring at it for a few minutes before finally picking it up and dialing in the number of a man he used to call family. The phone kept ringing and eventually went to the answering machine, Mistake left a message.

"Sometimes integrity is seen as a threat by those who desire control. Until we meet again, friend."

With that he hung up and picked out some clothes in his size, putting them on in front of the mirror. It felt as if his worries and anxiety were slowly fading away as a smile grew upon his face, the thought of a fresh start out-weighed his previous worries. After getting dressed, he ordered some food and read the newspaper. The headline article was talking about the rising figure of mob related crimes in Las Vegas, letting out a little laugh as he muttered to himself.

"Guess this place isn't all that different from home."

Two hours of crosswords and boredom passed before Mistake heard a knock on the door. He gets up to answer it.

"You again? You just can't get enough!"

After about a couple hours of running around Hazel finally had the time to go meet back up with Mistake. By now he should have had enough time to gather himself enough to be presentable. Not that he had to be overly presentable but any semblance of normalcy is a good thing. She grabbed her bag off her desk, tossed it over her shoulder. It was a bit heavier then it usually was, it wasn't until she opened it up that she realized why. She still had Mistakes gun in her bag.

Taking it out she gave it a look, there was definitely a lot of wear and tear on it. Meaning he's used it quite a bit, doesn't mean he knew how to use. Just knew it was used. Suddenly the thoughts of it being pushed into her back ran through her head. Instantly the rage filled her up.

"That fucker did pull a gun on me, didn't he?" Was a thought that ran through he head.

"Calm down Hazel, Calm down... Just imagine being in his shoes." She said to herself

She took a deep breath, calming herself down a bit. Giving the gun one more look, she opened it up removing all the bullets from it and tossed it back in her bag, before heading up to his room. Now she wasn't really sure what their conversation was going to be about but she knew she had to figure out what the hell his story was.

Her stomach rumbled on the way up to his room, she had been so busy today she had forgotten to eat. Perhaps a conversation over some food would be good.

It was just a matter of a couple moments before she found herself in front of room 314. She lifted her hand and gave a slight rap onto the door. She could hear him shuffling around inside and made sure to stand back so she could be seen through the peep hole. A moment later the door opened

"You again? You just can't get enough!"

Up until that point she was calm and collective but for some reason that comment hit a nerve. He stood there with a smug look on his face as the rage filled her. Clenching her right fist in a tight ball, she swung at him connection with his jaw. The right hook made him stumble backwards a bit.

"Me again? You should be lucky that I came back. Oh and don't you ever point your gun at me again, unless you're expecting to use it and you better not miss. So help me god."

Before he was able to say a word Hazel pulled the the gun out of her bag, holding it in her palm she pushed it into his chest.

"Here is fucking gun, I took the bullets so you know. I'm hungry so let's talk over some food. Ok?"

Mistake wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and laughed a little.

"Yup, that was a good hit. I deserved that one. Although, most women hit me after our date... Not before they ask!"

"Shut up and follow me before I hit you again."

With that, Mistake put his gun away and follow Hazel down to the restaurant. They skipped starters and ordered a steak accompanied by some red wine. Mistake sighs and begins talking.

"I suppose you want to know who I am and what happened back in London. I'll start from the beginning. When I was young I got into boxing, I enjoyed fighting. After a few years of getting into trouble for minor things and having street fights, I got approached by a man that started teaching me how to make some real money. I would run little errands for them, just petty things. Of course, things started to escalate as I got older, you are no stranger to that side of life, you know how it is. I was always ruthless, so I ended up being used to teach people a lesson. Beat downs with my fists turned into breaking peoples arms and legs with a bat, then eventually.. Well.."

Mistake mustered up a slight smile and took a sip from his glass of wine.

"Anyway, things got pretty serious. Money was coming in, life was good. I was asked to pay some nobody a visit, of course I had no problem with this, it was an everyday thing to me. However after the job was done, I found out who the guy was. This wasn't some nobody. So the people I worked for, rather than taking the wrath for their actions... Left me out to dry, claimed I done it for personal reasons and it wasn't on them at all. The people I considered my family threw me out as if I was nothing."

The anger on Mistakes face started to become very apparent, he sat there still sawing through an already cut steak with his knife.

"I knew the moment they told me that I had to get out of London, I built up a lot of enemies thanks to those guys. They wouldn't touch me whilst I was protected, however now I was an easy target. Later that day as I got home a few gunmen showed up at my house and tried to kill me, was also followed on my way to the airport and had another... Altercation. So I doubt I'll be going back to London anytime soon."

Mistake and Hazel finished up the meal. She handed him $2500 in an envelope and told him he could stay in that room for two months, plenty of time for him to get back on his feet. With that she left, promising to stay in contact.
