Memorial Day Started by: Karnage on May 26, '18 21:54

It was a relatively cool day for the end of May. Karnage had been in his office doing paperwork and seeing some visitors from all around. some were looking for protection, others were seeking retribution for wrongs done against them. Solum was out doing some errands so was not available to assist at the present moment. There was no telling where Cleo was. One day Karnage received a telegram from her in Los Angelas and the next he may get one from New York.

"Ferdinand, if anyone else comes tell them I am busy"

Ferdinand nodded as Karnage walked outside. He didn't get to enjoy the sights very often. His HQ was located on top of a hill overlooking Seattle. The city was still buzzing despite the recent torrential downpours that had been plaguing the city for the last few days. The occasional gunshots would ring from a drug deal gone wrong and in the far distance, you could see the Mayor's mansion. The sunlight was glaring off the windows and the workers were busy tending to his yard.

Karnage turned his head and looked to the south. The smell of the pine trees was refreshing to him as he took in his surroundings. After about 25 minutes he saw a plane getting ready to land at the airport just outside of Tacoma. Sea-Tac was not as busy as it usually was. The city was still rebuilding from the devastating war that had ravaged the city the week prior.

As Karnage was thinking to himself he realized that Memorial day was only a few days away. It was a time to reflect, to remember those that had lost their lives in wars past. World war 1 was brutal enough and the newspapers were constantly flooded with reports that the world was on the brink of a second world war. Karnage wondered what came to other peoples mind when they thought of Memorial Day.

Karnage walked over to his mini stage and grabbed his megaphone. That to him was an excellent question. What comes to the mind of the masses when they think of Memorial day?

"Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen! Today I come before you to ask a simple, yet sometimes a difficult question for some."

Karnage takes a moment to light a cigarette

"What comes to your mind when you think about Memorial Day?"

Kittie was walking in the late afternoon sun when she heard a man call out a question that deeply moved her.  She stepped closer to the gentleman and adjusted her hat, before taking it off.  She fumbled with the felt brim and silk flowers, finally coming up with her answer to the question posed.

"Sir, you have asked what Memorial Day brings to mind.  Well, personally it reminds me of my brother Eoghan.  You see, he died during the Great War and was buried overseas.  So this Decoration Day I have chosen to go to a local cemetery and volunteer my time decorating the graves of soldiers who don't have friends or family to remember them.  Remembering the fallen is so very important.  It lets those who are still alive know that we honor the sacrifices made by our armed forces and that we won't forget the high cost of war or the greatest sacrifice, that of life, that these men have given to their country.  I'll also be lighting a candle for my dearly departed brother Eoghan and praying for his soul."

Kittie nodded to the man and put her hat back on, then walked away, brushing a tear from her eye, the thought of her brother simultaneously making her proud and sad.

"What comes to your mind when you think about Memorial Day?"

That's what the man on the stage asked. I did not like thing about it, but it took me back to my 8 years in the army. '90 to'98 were some funny times for a young man. I joined when I was 17, saw my first bit of action a year later. Two tours in another country later, I made it back to the states. I was angry, depressed, unemotional ... hard to explain.

I walked back into the bar for another drink. "What comes to mind when you think about Memorial Day?" Damn, my mind raced as I thought about those I served with and saw die. As my eyes teared up, I ordered another drink.

I think about friends lost, the pride I feel in serving, my family. I think about how much the world has changed sense then. Damn that Karnage fellow for making me remember .... I love him for it. I ordered a double this time .....

OOC- My real life, tried to keep it RP. Love and respect to all this Memorial Day. - jtc
