"Seems to be a lot of activity on the streets as of recent."

Jack is young, familiar with this life however wary of any recent changes. He stands small, in moderately over-sized clothes. There's a slight catch in his throat on approaching the public.

"I'm not sure if there has been a change in the incentive or benefits earned from stomping around the streets on our various adventures, however I am noticing the impact of it.

"Until now, I've avoided appearing in my own speech, charade or adventure, as I do not feel it brings anything to the table that isn't already out there. It would get lost, be unappreciated and remain largely unnoticed. I do enjoy observing the antics of others, or getting involved directly. I also long for a good discussion though, exchanging of opinions on areas of our work or moral challenges. This fundamental aspect of our life is getting drowned.

"What we currently have is a cluster of footfall. Without taking the time to invest in each and every appearance, It's difficult to tell who is seeking your insight or making an announcement and who is engaging on some wild endeavor. I don't know about you, but in this life, I certainly don't have time to visit every appearance."

Jack pauses for the passing crowds.

"I encourage street activity, regardless of what is driving people to appear here. However if this is the way it will be, I propose we find a way to manage the content of our streets. Perhaps highlight significant and contributing discussions and allow them to be easily identified above the individual adventures of others.

"We could suggest hard changes to the tools available to us, or agree among ourselves on an approach to instill. For example; getting to the point. If someone has something to say, let's say it. Let's not waste time admiring the detail of the world around us or stand idly while recalling a recent conversation or event in our heads. If we're coming out here to talk, let's do that.

"Or the soapbox? What happened to the humble soapbox, anticipating that someone was about to directly engage with the population?

"For me, things like this would make it clear I have an opportunity to be clued into the recent and relevant meditations of our street speakers.

"And for those on their adventures, they can continue to enthrall us with descriptive tales and daring feats, all of which we can enjoy at our own leisure."

He shuffles, raising a brow to open the floor.

"But If we don't do something, regardless of the targeted audience, all of our content will just become litter."

“You best be careful, lad.” Dar whispered to the young man. “I hear the National Writers Association enlisted some heavies that might not take kindly to you hinting their work can be considered litter.”

The young man stumbled forward after Dar patted him amicably on the back while laughing.
It’s a good thing he wasn’t standing on a soapbox or things might have been awkward.

“Ha, I’m just kidding, lad. I appreciate it that you come out here bringing a topic like this to our attention. While your words seem to hint to concern, I actually see positivity in it. The newspapers have reports of plenty men and women voicing concerns about the streets being too quiet. I see them being chaotic as a healthy improvement over utter silence.”

“The fact that there is much content shows that there is a willingly to participate on that level. Apparently effort and attention isn’t an issue for many. However, telling a tale is very different from voicing opinion over actual matters. While the first entertains, the latter affects and in that it has my preference. Increased examples of voicing opinions and their appreciation might lead to more people following on that path. After all, each of us will have opinions and insights about what we experience. Some more mature than others, but we all have them. Assuming we care about our experience, dialogue about it would be most natural to happen.”

“Now I think as that type of dialogue picks up, the separation you seek would happen automatically with it through activity. A larger and more diverse crowd will be involved and that draws attention. For now, while I recognise what you say, I’m okay with how things are. I just make my rounds on squares and in speakeasies and linger where interesting words fall upon my ear. One day that might be entertainment. One day it might be debate. The thing we show collective interest in, will eventually be the easiest to find.”
