Domencio Mancini was born in Messina, Italy September 12, 1907.  His parents took the long trip to America only a few years later.  When Domencio was only 10 years old his father enlisted and was sent to World War I.  Domencio was an only child.  His brother died at childbirth a few months before his father was shipped overseas.

Domencio's childhood was spent being tutored by his mother who assisted two other women with home schooling young Italian-American children.  In 1912, word was received by letter that his father was killed in action.  It wasn't too many years after his mother died from Smallpox.  A close friend of the family took Domencio to Chicago.  As soon as he arrived he was put to work alongside his new caretakers.  Juan and Barbara Marion took good care of him and taught him the basics of breadmaking.  Though unfortunately, they were unable to keep him away from organized crime.

Only a few months prior to leaving the comfort of the Marion's home and family business, Domencio began bootlegging with neighborhood friends.  His success became recognized by the Aiello Family.  The Aiello Family used Domencio or known then by "Soldiers" and "Associates" as Domenic, as one of their drivers, who would supply sugar to those illegally producing the liquer.  Domenic successfully did this for nearly 3 years without any issues or arrests.

Before making a late night supply run, a Soldier informed Domenic that his Capo took notice to his work ethic and wished to speak to him upon his return.  Domenic knew that this meant he was close to becoming a member, but throughout the night remained focus on the "run" he had to do.  Upon Domenic's arrival that early morning to the distillery he assisted the unloading and joked with those he had met over the years of his work.  It was then, upon finishing his good news to an old friend inside the factory, when the police arrived.

Domenic was heavily interrogated, but thankfully charged with packing illegal substances rather then the charge of bootlegging.  Domenic was sentenced for 5 years in jail.  While completing his sentence he met many different members convicted of multiple different crimes.  After spending only a few weeks inside prison he realized that he was going to have to make connections to be established when he got out.

His first attempt was to get close to those who were connected in the Aiello Family, but after making some friends he realized of the war between Capone and Aiello.  Domencio was never the one to wage battles or seek them out and wanted nothing of the bloodshed he heard about during his time in prison.  Domencio spent much of his time studying strategy and politics.  How society and economy developed around certain influences in religion and culture.  On many nights he would dream of his own family and the success he would make.  His focus on making connections left him his final years in prison and began to rally around those who made smart choices and decisions with the money and power they have accumilated.

Domencio Mancini was released nearly a month after Al Capone was convicted and put in prison.  Domencio got a job in a bakery near downtown Chicago and began quietly getting to know the neighborhood looking for a family that would benefit him as much as he could benfit them.
