Writing Prompt #2 - Ends June 9th, 23:59 Started by: Squishy on Jun 02, '18 20:33

Midnight. Los Angeles. City of Angels- allegedly. Don Parmigiano had seen far more devils in his day, even made deals with a few of them, like the one that had landed him here in this shitty job. Tied to a chair that creaked under his behemothian form, Don Parmigiano thought back on what had brought him here.

The planning was flawless, the execution not so much.  A jewelry store hit gone wrong; Dustin and Tony were the trigger man going in the back, while Don Parmigiano was supposed to act as a distraction inside the store. Maybe that's why he was still alive. Tony is dead, Dustin is just lying there bleeding out. What the fuck happened?  Was there a rat or simply shit luck?  Don Parmigiano had dealt with enough cheese in his life to know when a rat was nearby.

Either way, the score is 1/10th of what it should be and the heat is on. Literally. Sweat poured down Don Parmigiano's doughy cheeks as he sat inside the attic, roasting due to their host cranking the thermostat. The cool night air was just on the other side of the window, but it might as well have been on the moon.

He heard the door slowly open and turned his head to see the two owners of the jewelry shop walk in. How the hell was he going to talk his way out of this one. Wolfsheim, the older one, spoke. The younger partner just glared at him.

"Don... or should I say Caporegime... Parmigiano. You've protested your innocence quite vehemently, claiming to have never met these two men who attempted to rob us in our lives. You can understand our skepticism, since it appeared that you were doing everything possible to occupy our attention inside the store as these two degenerates snuck into our vault..."

The younger partner untied one of Don's arms, took out a gun, and handed it to Don Parmigiano. Wolfsheim continued to speak.

"If you truly don't know these men, perhaps you'll assist us in putting Mr. Dustin here out of his mis-

Before Wolfsheim could finish speaking, Parmigiano had already pulled the trigger four times. Only one bullet fired, but it was enough- Dustin, who was already slumped over, fell to his side. Wordlessly, the two men untied Don Parmigiano, whose sweat had bled through his shirt, his jacket, and even made the ropes slightly damp. After a short, terse conversation he walked outside and tried to hail a cab.

As the car drove away, he stuck his head out the window to cool off, jowls slightly flapping in wind as he muttered.

"Shit. Sorry Dustin, but I would have shot my own mother to get out of that oven."

Tucking the matchbox into your coats inner pocket for later reference you proceed to leave the scene. No need to hang around, you would not want to inadvertently become a person of special interest. Under the moonless sky you easily manage to slip unseen from the alley way.  A casual walk down the few blocks takes you back to the car that you abandoned for not starting as quick as needed.  A tired smile crosses your face as you slide back into the driver seat. Your head automatically rests on the steering wheel as you hope the lead of the matchbox which is obscure to you is not to your boss after the massive failure this job was.

You start the car up easily this time and pull out into the road heading back to the safe house.  Your mind races on the drive there. What will the boss say, will you be blamed for the failure, will you get in trouble for the death in the alley or will they see that as necessary. You could not leave any witnesses after all and he killed Tony and when you left Dustin he was bleeding out rapidly, he was sure to be dead by now. Maybe the guy you left dead in the alley had the same idea of leaving no witnesses.

Just a bit nervous about your first meeting with the boss you finally arrive at the safe house near the end of town.  Only to be met by the largest wall of a man you have ever seen, his bulk just adds to your nervous tension as he escorts you slowly and quietly into the backroom of the house  He leaves you in the room alone as you hear the door on the opposite side of the room open slowly. An authoritative figure enters the room and slowly strolls to the oak corner desk that was the prominent piece of furniture in the room. The figure sits comfortably in the overstuffed office chair.  She has such authority around her you feel it must be the boss.

Without a word she indicates that you take the seat on the opposite side of the desk. You oblige and sit as she pours two glasses of what you think is whiskey handing you a glass she then proceeds to calmly ask.

“So, what happened?  I am assuming you completed your job and there are no witnesses? “She paused just long enough to take a long sip from her glass.” That is one thing I like about you, you never leave any witnesses. So, tell me why my men are dead?”

Slowly you finish swallowing your last sip setting the glass on the desk. You start in a quiet tone explaining what had happened as you hand her the matchbox.  Her eyes seemed to sparkle in recognition as you continued to tell her you found it on the man who had killed both her men. That indeed you not only left no witnesses you also avenged the death of her men.  She set her empty glass on the oak desk between the two of you. Smiling broadly her voice full of praise she compliments you on your cleaner abilities. Then continues quickly with her next concern … the money.  “How can the monetary value be recovered? “

The door opens slowly; Peter pulls his gun in preparation.  With the amount of bad luck that had gone down he wasn't going to take any chances, he lined up his shot, ready to squeeze the trigger.  Suddenly he stopped.  It was Antony.

“What the hell has taken you so long?” Peter exclaimed.

“I got cut off, a blockade went up just behind you and I had to find another way around.  Shit is that Dustin?”

“Yeah he caught one in the stomach.  If we can’t stop the bleeding soon he’ll be a goner.”  Peter was holding onto the bullet wound with his left hand as he holstered his pistol with his right.  “There is no way the police could have gotten to the Alberghini families warehouse so quickly.”

Dustin let out a cry of pain, turning whiter by the second.  Pointing to the backup car Peter said “Get that started, I know a doctor who owes me a favour.”

The drive was long and excruciating, the slowly muffling moans of Dustin were still echoing through the vehicle even with the engine revving.   When they finally arrived at the doctors, scratch that, the veterinarian’s, they unloaded Dustin and took him in.  Dogs barked as they made their way to the operating room.

“Excuse me gentlemen, I need you to clear the room.”

Over the next few hours Peter and Antony paced the hallways, occasionally smoking a cigarette in the poorly ventilated waiting room.  Finally the doors opened and the doctor emerged.  “He is going to be OK, I will be opening in a few hours and need to clean up.  Get him out of here.  Oh and don’t move him around for the next 72 hours once you drop him off.  He’ll need rest.”

Back at the safe house Dustin was slumped into one of the cots.  The money, what there was of it, was put onto the table.  The boss opened the bag to take a look and instantly the look of fury swept across his face.  “What the hell happened?”

Peter explained what went down.  Everything had gone according to plan in the beginning, but suddenly 3 cops appeared from around the corner.  Tony had panicked and opened fire, killing one of them and that’s when all hell broke loose.  Suddenly, in the middle of explaining everything, the room filled with the lights of several cars.  It was the cops.

“OK boys, these here scumbags killed one of our own.  No need for arrests.”  There was a sound of multiple guns being cocked.  “Fire at will boys!”

Everything suddenly went black...

Every morning me and the guys would get together to plan another one of our flawless daily heists. Tony and Dustin had a perfect record on jewelry store hits. Both Tony and Dustin studied the blueprint of the business. They were told other pertinent information to assist in their success.

The three of us packed up our gear. We arrived and parked out back as planned. We synchronized our watches and exited the vehicle. Tony and Dustin entered the back entrance, while I headed towards the front entrance.

The salesman was nowhere in sight. A stocky man was at the counter who appeared a bit nervous. I heard the door open. Alarmed with the  2 masked men who entered. The man at the counter shouts, "Backroom Now!" Seconds later, the sound of guns could be heard from the back of the store.

"FUCK!"

I reached for my gun and laid to rest the stocky man at the counter. I headed towards the backroom where Tony and Dustin were and quickly discovered we were not the only ones with an agenda to hit this store up. I fired one shot and took down one of the 2 masked man. The next shot grazed the other masked man. He escaped out the backdoor.

I knelt down next to Tony. There was no pulse. I worked my way over to Dustin. His pulse could be barely be detected. He was bleeding out. I made the sign of the cross and covered their faces.

Vengeance is mine!

Artur steps right up to you and backhands you right out of the chair you were currently sitting in before taking a look around the room. The mess of the organized crime that should have been a sinch clearly visible. He sent a crew of three into an art museum guarded by 1 patrol officer, and only 2 return. One of which was clearly not going to make it through the night. Worst of all, they hadn't even stolen anything. Artur looks back at you with disgust on his face, reaching into his coat jacket he pulls out a gun and before you can even say a word he pulls the trigger ending your miserable existence. Two quick steps bring him around the chair with a clear shot at the man bleeding it, for just a second Artur considers letting him bleed out on the floor. However, professionalism wins out and Artur puts a bullet in Dustin's head as well.

Inside the MGM Grand compound, beneath the floors of the casino, Laffy and his team were gearing up for the battle to come. Six men, each counting their bullets and inspecting their rifles. Murmurs of prayers scattered about as they surely knew not everyone was making it home that night. The chaotic silence was finally broken by the clacking footsteps that proceeded Viviana’s entrance into the room.

All right boys, let’s go over the plan once more before you move out. Laffy lay it out,” she says with a bravado in her voice. Laffy nods his head and begins. “We’re going to ride out in two Studebakers. Vinny, you and your boys ride out in one, the rest of us in the others. Once we get to the warehouse, we got to split up. They got the numbers here but they don’t know we’re coming, so we strike at two angles. While Vinny is hitting the front, Dustin and I will come around the rear end to get the meds.” Laffy gave a stern look to everyone before continuing, “We know the people who pay us for protection need these, and these fucking pussies took it from us. Let’s go get what is ours.” Everyone nodded their heads and began to move out, paying their respects to the Right Hand before leaving.

Once everyone is in the car, ready to move out, Viviana comes knocking on Laffy’s car window. When he rolls down the window she says “One more thing, you know they took Tony when they attacked our storages. He’s made, the family needs him home, no matter what. Bring our brother home.” Laffy simply nodded his head and rolled the window back up, and started following Vinny about a minute behind.

During the ride, Dustin and Laffy have small chats trying to calm each other's nerves. “Man, I’m just happy my aunt finally let me go out on a mission for the family. I finally get to prove my self.” Dustin said while chuckling.

How is it having Doll for an aunt man? Has to be some pressure.”

Fucking right it’s pressure. Imagine trying to get made but having every little move you make judged by the Godfather. Not only that but Lucky likes to stick his nose in every once in a while too. Make sure I’m not fucking up the family name and what not.

Shit, I wouldn’t be able to handle that honestly, I get enough shit with Viviana on my case all the time.” Laffy sees Vinny’s Studebaker take the right and shuts his mouth immediately, tapping Dustin on his shoulder to signal that it’s about to start getting bright in Summerlin.

Everyone is lined up on their stations, Laffy sporting his shotgun to bust down the back door under the cover of the firefight taking place up front. There’s an eerie silence, crickets can be heard in the nearby field, each heartbeat becoming increasingly louder before finally the tension is cut by the sound of rifles firing towards the front of the building. Vinny’s started, so Laffy and Dustin follow suit. The break down the back door, going unnoticed. The opposition is moving out in full force to stomp out the team up front, so Dustin begins searching for the meds while Laffy covers his ass. A few minutes go by and you can start hearing the groaning of grown men as they fall still from their wounds.

WHERE THE FUCK IS IT!” Dustin screams in a panic.

They must have moved it already, we need to find Tony, now,” commands Laffy as he grabs Dustin by the collar. They make their way through the offices where they finally meet their first rivals. Dustin clears a path as he heads forward with a head filled of youthful pride. They come to the end of the hallway when Laffy attempts to stop Dustin from opening the door before he is properly set up for a breach, but to no avail. As the door opens a shotgun blast comes blasting through the front, piercing Dustin in the chest. As he rolls on the floor screaming in agony, a man comes walking through the door shotgun aimed down. Laffy recognizes him and drops his shotgun yelling at the top of his lungs, “TONY YOU FUCKING TRAITOR”.

Grasping at his side for his pistol, Laffy launches forward in an understandable rage. Tony simple smirks before raising his gun to aim at him. On the floor, Dustin, still in terrible pain, scrambles to grab at the feet of his would-be murderer and manages to trip him up for just a moment, just long enough for Laffy to reach him and smack Tony in the nose with the butt of his pistol, knocking him out cold.

No one else is in the room but a few boxes have been tucked away in the corner. Laffy takes a moment to check on Dustin, noting that the has passed out due to blood loss, or maybe he’s dead. The adrenaline wont let him sit and think on it for too long. He moves throughout the room in search of anything of use. It would seem they kept one pack of meds for themselves, it’s not much but it would be better than returning empty handed. As he returns to Dustin’s body he realizes the fighting has stopped, no more gunshots. Knowing that they were severely outmanned Laffy begins to contemplate his options. With little time for debate, he takes his gun out and aims it steadily at an unconscious Tony. Without a word, two shots are fired at the head of Tony, both connecting at point blank range. He chooses to carry out Dustin’s mangled body over the meds, in hopes that he still lives. As Dustin is thrown over his shoulder, with his gun holstered, the door at the opposite end of the hallway begins to crack open. Stunned, Laffy is caught like a deer in headlights, unable to move.

Who was it? Could it be Vinny? More likely it’s these fuckers coming to check in on their turncoat and prizes.

Familiar voices begin to pierce through the darkness as one man yells, “Hey, the boss’s nephew is down here.” Laffy breathes a sigh of relief. It’s Jim from the Strip. Lucky must have sent a clean-up crew to assist.

Laffy collapses to his knees as the sounds of sirens blaring in the background and a flurry of made men come rushing in to move everyone living out of the area.
