"You know the types. Flitting around like some sort of social butterfly, though in some instances not even engaging anyone."
Jack scowls with disdain.
He finishes. "In a world where we reward appearances, it is almost unavoidable that we will end up with people splitting themselves across businesses and time zones, seemingly appearing everywhere at once. "...Almost..." He takes a deep breath, on exhale a wave of stress follows, leaving him calmer. "I'm not here to shame you, or just berate you. I want to help. Let's just have some dignity, continuity, some integrity and respect for the rules of the world. Yes, we could appear everywhere at once, but do we really want to be that person? I skipped over those attributes rather quick so will reverse and give them the time of day they deserve. "Dignity, I might be wrong here and the general opinion may well be 'if it's not against the rules, I can do it.' Sure, you could do it. However from an outside perspective, it gives the impression you've got nothing better to say and really want the credit for appearing anyway. It may be that the confidence just isn't quite there yet to appear in a discussion, or you just prefer to tell your story out of the lime light. Whatever the reason, if you feel you need to supplement your appearances, either in the streets or business districts, do it with something other than short term, fleeting visits. I hope the rest of this speech sheds some light on how to do that." Jack pauses. "Continuity. Some of you may have deep and well thought out stories to tell, or character traits that you wish to demonstrate. As someone who patrols the businesses looking for a solid story to experience or individual to engage, it is very difficult to track anyone whose story is split across multiple locations within minutes of each other. You can find much more benefit from appearing in one place and enticing people in to develop your story there. "Maybe spend time within one time zone and maintain an appearance across a couple of cities. Explain your business there and when you need to move on to another city, take your leave. "However you approach it, remember quality, not quantity." Another pause. "Lastly, Integrity and Respect. This goes for both the rules and the people you work for. I don't need to say much more on this one, we're all learning though and our leadership team should be there to support that journey. If your leader ever picks up on on something, take it on board. It is likely what they are doing is sharing general etiquette, which can apply to the streets and business districts too, and best practices. "It is clear that the enthusiasm is there, it just needs refining and pointing in the right direction. You're either going to get that from your leadership, or when some Jackass publicly points it out." Jack (ass) waves. "On a serious note, I'd be very keen to share pointers with anyone who is interested. Thanks for your time" |

What outcome would you like? Some very valid points made, in a rather well thought out speech, but what do you want to change? When you enter a bar how many variations of that action can you take? Certainly you could flamingo dance up to the bar person, but what difference would that provide other than a rather extravagant display? |

While I understand that you want quality over quantity, you must understand my dear Jack that not everyone is quite as loquacious or gregarious. To some people, asking for a drink lies outside of their comfort zone unless it is in a short and to the point sentence. They take their order, sit down, enjoy it, and then amscray outta there because being around people and talking is somewhat of a daunting task. Others, take you, for example, are very comfortable in talking to people, meeting new characters, and engaging in a thriving social life. You are the type of guy those quite ones wish they could be and yet there are many reasons why they aren't. Star pauses, looking around at her surroundings. There are people everywhere but only a few have stopped to talk with the young man who has given his speech. Some look as though they want to say something, others look as though they're unsure. "Y'see Jack, you have people from all walks of life, nationalities, and backgrounds. Maybe the language is a problem, maybe it's their comfort level, and maybe they don't find the atmosphere engaging enough. I suppose It's also worth it to make sure that the business owners are engaging their customers, checking in from time to time, making sure that they are comfortable as patrons. The long and short of it is, whether you find it frustrating or not, not everybody is going to please you all of the time. Sure it's frustrating to be met with a curt reply or even silence, and it's hard to not take it personally, but try to see the merit in what is being said and done ad try yourself to make sure that you are continuing to live up to your own standards. And, if someone takes you up on the offer to have you or anyone else willing to be a mentor, then that is in of itself a great thing! Star sighs, smiling softly at her friend, hoping that he understands her take on the matter. |

A rogue smile creeps across his face, despite his attempts to hide it, it was clear he was thrilled with the activity his approach had generated. "PeterMcNeil_ thanks for your challenge, well made. You are correct, there is only so many ways to make an entrance, order a drink and then as my dear associate Star has put it, 'amscray'. In my opinion, those elements of your appearance can/should be insignificant in comparison to the rest of your appearance that it isn't even noticeable. When you ask the question of what your appearance has achieved other than a +1 to your appearances, you're doing it right. "Some people prefer to focus on development of their story, others on dramatic events. Whatever your appearance entails, what we remember of it should not be how you entered and left, but the time and effort you put into it" Bowing his head to Star, Jack acknowledges her comments. "Thank you ma'am for stopping by. "Fully understand your points on diversity and it is something I struggled to be clear about in my initial approach. As I said, this speech wasn't just to put down on those guilty of falling into this approach. It was to raise awareness of requirement to - and offer the chance - to educate. "Am I responsible for education? Likely not, however I am more than happy to take a hit highlighting it as a development need for those of our number less confident or articulate. I'm also happy to shoulder some questions and share tips. "I think the real responsibility would lie as previously suggested, on leadership and business owners to correctly engage those who require it. Unless of course the issue I'm squabbling about isn't as much of a concern as I'm making out" |

Star returns Jack's smile, nodding at his well thought out points. "I think that's just it when push comes to shove, there will always be leaders who take a more serious tack on social presence. I often find that it is the same people over and over who appear and make conversation and I really truly enjoy it when I see new blood come to the streets and businesses to say their piece. I really think that those who come into power should have the initiative and drive to spur not just the regulars on but to coax others out of their shells and become active members in the growing community as a whole." |

Fiorenzo was walking at as brisk a pace as his legs could with the load over his shoulder. He would have kept going right on by, but a young man from Philadelphia he had recently encountered stole his attention. Sweat beaded on his forehead as he stood their listening to the discussion back and forth. There was a passed out woman draped over his right shoulder. ChelseaCrossfire's designer heels dangled and clicked together as the animated Sicilian began to speak. "I'm not the only one that sees them?" He glanced from face to face gathered around the street corner. "I had written it off at this point." Fiorenzo sighed. "Everywhere I go it's the same faces doing the same thing over and over. I was beginning to think I had gone mad! I still think I may have. How can someone be picking up the same glass of coffee everywhere I look? Every city I scour!? The same meal at every turn?" He caught the limp form of ChelseaCrossfire before she slid down off his shoulder with that last outburst. Fiorenzo steadied himself and continued. "Of course in these circles I expect to see the same faces. I just wake up to see the same thing- Every day- Every city. Their faces are the same. How are they everywhere? How can they be everywhere!? My eyes must be deceiving me! I feel like I'm being followed. Life is like a record stuck skipping back to the same groove repeatedly. It's maddening!" The man's eyes were elsewhere. They were distant. He couldn't stare at the group. Should he be expressing these thoughts out loud? An insane asylum seemed much worse a fate than a revolving door jail. "I suppose life is nothing more than monotonous tasks anyways!" |

PeterMcNeil_ tips his hat "I agree, but sometimes the aesthetics don't always lend themselves to deep thoughts."

"FioUccello, thanks for your comments and I'm glad you decided to stick around. I wanted to wait for some other comments before responding." He looks over his shoulder. "And also wh-" Probably don't want to know, Jack. "You captured my sentiment perfectly, I feel there is much more value and benefit to be taken from maintaining a decent appearance at one or two locations before moving onto another business or city entirely." He looks toward the ground. "And unfortunately I can't ask Mr McNeil's corpse to clarify his comments." |

Fio's eyes went wide looking over at Mr. McNeil. "Did it get him too?" He tried to reach behind him to get to Chelsea's purse. It was looped on her hand. Fio looked a lot like a dog chasing his tail as he fought for it. He apparently wasn't keen on setting her down at the moment. "Cazzo, sì." He muttered through clinched teeth when he finally grabbed the thing and retrieved a can. The weight of the angle had him side stepping. He caught his balance and stood straight. He panted as he looked down at one of the heels he was going to have to retrieve on the ground. He tossed a rectangular can of meat on the ground in front of Jack. "This demone is on the shelves everywhere across this nation. It's killing people; I know it. Look at it-So evil-So tasteless. It cannot be healthy for you. Can it? I'm sure overindulgence must be fatal!" Fio couldn't unlock his eyes from the epidemic. Soylent Verde Processed Meat. "I see so many people eating it up like it's delicious. I don't understand. Are we all being brainwashed? The factories they just pump it out. I'm not even sure what kind of meat it is." He took a deep breath and fetched the wayward heel. |
