"I swear to God!  I swear on my mother's grave!"  The man screamed out, but no one could hear him this side of the Ford Plant.  It was too damn loud.

Isabella nodded to Nails, whose given name was Neil.  Neil was nearly seven feet tall and made of solid corn-fed-midwestern-US-muscle.  He was a living breathing tank and he was deathly loyal to Isabella who had saved his mother's home from foreclosure and prevented the elderly woman from being put on the streets.  Neil was a little slow, simple - not stupid, but brutally violent... and oddly soft-hearted towards the innocent... animals and children.

Nails saw the nod and pushed McNally's face into the brick wall hard, causing it bleed and teeth to crack.  Isabella walked into the man's line of sight - though she suspected with the strain on his eye sockets he couldn't make out too much.  She held up a hand for Nails to ease up.  "See, I wish to God I could believe that, I was so very clear on what would happen if you didn't have Don Luciano's tribute.  Don't you care for how much time and effort he's put into the Auto Unions?  Do you have any idea what sort of conditions you'd go back to, what sort of pay scale your men would have if not for the help of the unions and Don Luciano?"

McNally coughed a huge gout of bright red blood.  Isabella stepped back just in time to miss being hit.  "I... do.."  He choked out.

"Now, I've got a pretty good idea what your take has been.  5,000 employees.  Dues are $2 a month per worker.  That's $10,000 a month.  Now you need administrative fees, I get that... you got a family to care for but McNally I can see how nice those shoes are and if there is one thing I am... more than good with money... is I'm a DAMN good shopper.  Those loafers aren't from Sears or some other department store.  Those are custom made - good quality leather too.  So I'm gonna guess your family isn't hurting for food or necessities."

McNally continued to sob.

"I want your shoes."  She said decidedly and she nodded to Nails who let McNally collapse at her feet.

"Wha... my shoes?"

"You're a size 9?  My father is a 9.  It's father's day tomorrow.  He needs a new pair."

McNally takes off the shoes, one at a time and offers them up to her trembling.

She looks at his socks.  "Oh!  Those are cute too... give me those."

He took off his socks and bit by bit she demanded each article of clothing the man was wearing until he was down to a white t-shirt and underwear.  He covered himself with his blood stained hands, clearly feeling more vulnerable than ever.

"My God man... you must feel so - dear me.  You know what... I'm going to give you clothing to wear."

"Thank you Miss.  Thank you!"  He said excitedly as he waited for his clothing back.  Instead she gave it to Nails to hold.  Then she turned to McNally who seemed confused.

"Oh!  You thought I meant now.  No.  I mean, I know I gave you the impression that this thing you need would be given to you today... but I just can't.  I promise I'll get it to you soon though."

McNally tried to hide his fear.

Isabella smiles.  "I imagine it'll be hard for you to explain to your wife why you're home with all your clothing gone... and that son of yours too.  Damn.  He's what... twelve?  Nearly grown."  She shrugs.  "Well, I guess we both are going to have a hard talk with our family members tonight, right?  BUT... let me tell you the difference between you and me."

She walks into his personal space and lowers her voice to a whisper that can barely be heard.  "Unlike you, who has an sweet understanding wife and charming son to go explain your failure to come home with something you SHOULD have rights to; I have to go home to a Sicilian man with a temper whose known to make people who fail him, disappear."

"I'm so sorry, Miss."  He began, but Isabella put her index finger on his lips.

"Don't worry about me sweetie.  I'll be okay... I'm a strong girl.  Its YOU that you need to worry about, because if you don't have those union dues for my father come next week... well, let's just say you won't ever have to explain your failures to your wife and son ever again.  Capisce?"

McNally nodded and tears ran down his blood stained cheeks.

"Go home McNally.  I need to figure out how to explain your failure to my Dad so he doesn't come looking for you tonight."

McNally kissed her hands.  "Thank you Miss Luciano.  Thank you."  He said scrambling away.  Isabella wasn't sure she'd ever get use to men weeping and thanking after having beat the hell out of them or demeaned them past the point of all reason.  As she watched McNally's back disappear in the distance she noticed Tiny stand up a bit straighter and Nails' eyes go wide.

Isabella didn't have to turn to know who they were looking at.

"Checking up on me while I work,"  She said as she turned, "Dad?"

"Just wanted to see how your fairing," he said with a big smile.

Lucky had been watching for a while. He wanted to see how she handled things and from what he could tell she was handling them just fine.

Lucky walked over and kissed his daughter on the forehead and then saw she had some of this mans blood on her new clothes. Lucky looked down at the man frowned at him and then pulled his gun and put a bullet into the man's head.

Lucky turns to Nails

"Bring me the next man in charge of this union," he says to him.

Lucky smiles as the man run off to find the next guy inline. He turns to his daughter and can see that Sicilian temper flaring up in her eyes. Lucky just stepped in on her thing.

"I know I know sweetheart. You had it handled. But we are all new to Detroit and I needed to set an example and this seemed to be as good a chance as any. They need to see what I am going to do if they don't do what you all tell them to do." he says

"Make you seem like the nice one to deal with."

Isabella tilts her head to the side, "And what do you think the other union guys are going to say about that poor widow and her son?"  She crosses her arms over her chest.  "You could have been the hero who helped them get their fair shake with the company bosses... now you're the monster who kills the only earner in a desperate household."

She shakes her head.  "You really need to trust me to handle these things.  Let me make them love you... people who love you are loyal as fuck.  Fear, fear can make men do desperate and stupid things.  You want loyalty given from the depths of their hearts - let us, your men on the street, get our hands dirty."

She sighs and looks down at the guy's corpse.

"Maybe I can have him dropped into a machine, look like a work related accident.  That way his family will at least get his pension."

She looks back to Sal, "Will these little visits of yours be routine going forward or do I owe this one to some special occasion?"

Report Post Tip

"Well, I can make these little visits whenever I like. A perk of being the boss and your father," he said giving her a wink

"And as for this," he says pointing to the guy on the floor.

"Well they will learn I can help them or I will kill them, either way, I get what I want out of it. So what they will do from now on is what we tell them to do."

Lucky stood looking at his daughter.

"You have made me proud through all the shit we had to deal with so far. And you have been working hard here in Detroit since the move. I want to give you some more responsibilities within the family." he says to her.

Isabella startles.  "Wait?  You're NOT here because..."  She swallows.  "I mean, thank you."  She decides it's best to say thank you when the boss is complimenting your work rather than asking about shit you've fucked up.

"I'm going to do everything I can to make this family something you can really be proud of."  What she meant, in her heart, was that she was going to bust her back making sure he was proud of her - though she didn't dare say it that way.  Everything was about the Luciano name, EVERYTHING.

"What I can I do?  Anything you need... anything at all, you know I'll handle it."

Lucky looked at his daughter he obviously caught her off guard which was his intention. He liked seeing peoples first reaction.

"WEll I am going to make you my LHM. I think it is high time you learned how to lead," he told her.

Ever since Isabella had joined the family he had a reoccurring thought that one day he would like to leave the family to her. Things, where going well and taking over Detroit, was not proving to be as difficult as he had thought it might be. But he knew one day he would want to retire or possibly... No, he would not think of that. It was far early for those thoughts.

But she needed to learn to lead and be respected by the members underneath her.

"But Vincent he..."

"He'll be joining Kris."  Her father noted and, to this she had no good retort.  Everything she thought of asking pointed out her own weaknesses and flaws - things she never wanted her father to see when it came to her abilities in the family.

While her future brother or sister would always hold the first place in his heart as the child he raised, she wanted him to KNOW she was the one he could lean on in the illegal side of the family affairs.  In this way she'd literally carve out of other men's chests a place for herself in her father's heart.

"I'm honored.  Deeply and truly."  she met his eyes and with utter conviction said, "You've made a good decision.  You won't regret this.  I swear it."

"I am glad you think so," he said to her with a sly smirk.

"Now handle this and clean up this mess. Why would anyone shoot a man right here in the open? You need to not make these mistakes in the future." He says before turning around and walking away. chuckling to himself.

She looked to Tiny as if to say, 'What the actual fuck!?!'

Tiny just shrugged.

"Well, if it's my mistake - then we clean it up my way.  Find me a big machine Tiny... something that can mangle up a body good.  If Mrs. McNally is gonna be a widow, she'll be one with a pension.  I won't be the one who associates our family's good name with the terrorizing of those who earn us our comfortable living."

She looked after her father, who was getting into his car to drive away.  He was undoubtedly a monster... but he was the only father she had, and for better or worse, she wanted and needed his affection.  "Happy father's day, Dad."  She said to herself as his car pulled away from the scene.
