Apache was known to go out and fish with his spear. One day he was leaving to go on a journey to northern United States. He ended up in Michigan after a long 3 week journey. He traveled there because myth has it that Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes has the biggest northern in the whole country. Every time Apache heard a story like this he had to go to check out if there was any truth behind it. During his journey he ran into all sorts of problems. There was a coyote pack that tried to stop him while on his journey. But instead of fighting the wild pack of coyotes he decided to use flight as a tactic. He jump and climbed a tree while the wild dogs jumped and snipped trying to bite his legs. He stayed up in the tree until he fell asleep. Once awoke the wild animals were gone so he headed back on his journey. After he finally got to Lake Michigan he made himself a spear and a fishing pole. Putting a worm on the oak tree pole he casted our as far as he could into the lake. He mounted the pole in between 2 boulders. And stood on a rock in the shallow part of the lake with his spear. After about two hours fish finally started heading toward the shore. Apache caught about 3 or 4 with his spear but none were the mythical 8 pound northern he had heard of. Then his pole began to pull and tug, He had a bite. Apache jumped up onto the two boulders and got a grip on his fishing pole. Using one of his hands to pull in the line and the other to hold the pole steady. The fish had to of been big it was tugging almost hard enough to give Apache a run for his money. He finally got the fish In and to his excitement the rumors were true. An 9.5 pound northern came off the end of his pole. After straining the fish up he began to start making his journey home. he started heading back after collecting all of his equipment. While rounding the lake the Native man heard something behind him. He looked around but could not see anything, but his body told him otherwise. He had a chill go down his spine his subconscious self could feel someone or something watching him. Right when Apache turned around it was too late. A wild grizzly bear was diving on to him. As the beast pummeled him to the ground it began clawing at the chest and neck of Apache. The tears to his upper body began to leak blood everywhere. After eventually being able to slide out of the grizzlies grip, Apache drew his bow and loaded it. Sending a shot into the bears right eye. The piercing arrow only seemed to piss the bear off. “Grrrrah” The bear began to rush again. Apache moves out of the way but not without the bear taking the leather satchel with the arrows with him. Apache threw the useless bow to the ground and pulled his hatchet out from his waistband. After about a ten second stare down with the bear Apache decided to take the offensive. He rushed the bear hacking at him with all of his force, catching the beast in his neck with the sharp head of the axe. The bear did not give up he dove at Apache knocking him back to the ground this time clawing at his face. While Apache was taking four inch claws digging through his cheeks he kept hacking at the bears back and sides. Luckily he caught the animal in the right place at the right time making him go lifeless on top of the Native man. Apache pushed the grizzlie off of him and decided to get back to the lake to try to clean his wounds. He was too weak to travel anymore today so he decided he had to make camp right where the fight had happened. |

As the night grew and Apache was loosing blood he knew he had to gain warmth. He decided he was going to have to skin the bear for his fur. Apache was shaking and had a tremendous amount of blood loss. He started loosing cautiousness a little bit. Before he could skin the animal for warmth he had to stop the bleeding from his ches and ribs. He decided to gather vines from nearby bushes and mended them all together. Tying them as tight as possible around his upper body. Then the man started drinking as much water as he could to try to regain blood cells. His attempt to stop the bleeding worked somewhat but still had drops dripping from the vines. As long as he kept drinking water he should be fine. Now for the warmth. Apache pulled out his fillet knife that was made from deer bone. He started to sharpen it on a nearby stone until he was sure it was able to do the job. He went to the carcass of the dead bear and began to cut from the neck straight down the torso. He proceeded to skin the animal until he had from the lower back to the head all removed. He grabbed a piece of left over skinned fur and got it wet with lake water. Then Apache wiped away any leftover blood on the inside of the hide. Wrapping himself in the bear fur he decided to go to sleep. The next morning Apache headed out on his journey home. The rest of his trip went smooth, besides the fact that he was injured and moved a lot slower than normal. He would have a story to tell his tribe when he returned that was for sure! |
