Admission of Guilt Started by: Whatsername on Oct 16, '10 18:16

After some time walking these streets and reading old journals, Whatsername realizes there are many things not cut and dry in this thing of ours. She knows how she had handled situations in the past and how she believed she would handle them in the future but she also knows that not everyone handles things the same and wonders if a friendly debate could be sparked by one topic she has in mind. She begins putting her ideas together and finally steps out to ask her colleagues and fellow Mafioso their opinion on one topic given a few different scenarios.

Ladies and Gentlemen I step out today in hopes of hearing some ideas and practices regarding admission of guilt. I propose three scenarios for your consideration but please feel free to add anything else into the debate you feel is pertinent.

Scenario 1

You are a member of a crew or a family. You mistakenly fire your weapon at a target frowned upon by your leader and most all city heads. You may realize your mistake immediately or you may realize it when a request for information on the incident is asked for. At this point your leader does not realize you have done anything wrong. Do you admit your guilt to your leader before they find out another way and hope your honesty will be rewarded in some fashion? Or do you keep the truth to yourself hoping the single witness you left behind will quickly fall into a coma and never be able to report your mistake?

Scenario 2

You are a crewleader. A member of yours has now reported their mistake. Do you instantly punish them? Do you go to other affected parties and explain the honesty and hope for a deal? Do you hide the member in hopes that no witness will come forward?

Scenario 3

You are a crewleader or Godfather. As you were getting out of your limousine your gun fell out of the holster on your belt. The stray bullet that was discharged as the gun hit the road has killed a bystander that was affiliated with another crime regime. Do you go to the head of that regime and explain the situation and try to work on an arrangement to remedy the situation? Or instead, do you run into the building as fast as possible hoping the one person in the crowd you cannot pay off did not see your face.

I know there are many more scenarios that could come to mind very quickly. There are also many factors that may influence how a decision is reached in one situation over another. However generally, do you trust that honesty could help in relations with other leaders, as well as, your own or do you believe that a Mafiosi has no reason to admit mistakes and should wait for others to realize them and hand down punishments?

Whatsername takes out a piece of bubble gum and begins chewing and blowing bubbles waiting to hear people's points of view on her topic.

Within this thing of ours, it is very much mandatory that we are 100% faithful and trustworthy with our Crewleaders. That being said, I would most definately confess and admit up to my guilt eye to eye with my leader before he finds out through a witness statement that I mistakenly fired my weapon by accident. How does that make me seem as a loyal and faithful member of my family, if witness statements are beating me to the plate in admitting to my guilt before I can admit to it? Nevertheless, if I choose not to confess and admit to my guilt, wouldn't my relationship with my leader from that point on be a lie, being that I have now lied under oath, and im no longer faithful and trustworthy to him? Thats not something that I won't. So to answer the scenerio question, I would be the one to inform my leader in regards to the mistake that I happen to have made.

Personally, a mistake with the gun should never happen, but we all know it does and if it was me and was an honest mistake, I would STFU and hope no one saw or if they did, it was someone who, like you said, slips into a coma.

Scenario 2

I'm stuck on a loop on this one, I want to say I would do what needed to be done, go speak with the victims leader ans try and convince them it was an honest mistake and hope all would be forgiven, but then on the other hand, if someone came to me and told me that one of their members had just shot and killed one of mine, I would want to know why the hell that person is still alive and why the hell that leader would think I would want any other punishment than death, so with that, I would explain to my member that would he done was not expectable, thank him for his honesty, but then explain why I still have to kill him, because I would want the same done if one of my members were whacked.

In al respect I'm just a Gombaa. So I really have no purpose of saying my thoughts on this. But, I would like to say what I would do. I remember someone doing these things one time. Just can't remember her name.

But anyways. I would first say it's a warning. The second time would of been a going a rank down. The third will be decided on the godfather's rule. That's what I believe.

Have a Nice Day.

I shall start with Scenario 2. If I was a crew leader and my member accidentally shot another member of a crime regime my punishment would be more painful than death if they didn't end up dying already. If you hide the w/s and act as if nothing ever happened and the regime that lost the member finds out then that puts me and my whole family in the hot seat. However, if I go to the other regime and try to negotiate a form of compromise then it still makes me look bad on the fact my member shot one of theirs. However, I do find that those who accidentally do shoot someone from another family, especially miss should be given some consideration on how new they are. If a bloodline is fresh off the boat from Italy how are they to know there way completely around already? Yes it's my job to make sure they know the key rules however they are extremely new. Maybe make them pay money to the victim and or crew leader that was affected?

As for Scenario 1, always go with honesty. Let your leader decide whether or not to hide the mistake or go forward.

Scarion 3, If I was a crew leader then I'd keep it under wraps until speaking with the Godfather. If I was the Godfather I'd go to level Orange and start preparing to defend against an attack or be ready to attack if something comes of it.

Good questions Whatsername, I like them very much. A lot of food for thought there. After a lot of food and a lot of thought though one thing comes up over and over again in my mind, and that is that every individual case deserves its own individual attention. Huh? I hear you say. Well, in my opinion, your family is your family, and like any family each and every member has their own traits and ways of behaving etc. While you really should treat all members the same, in practice it doesnt work out that way. If you have someone in your family who is habitually breaking the rules, are you really going to go out on a limb for them? Or if you have someone who is hard working and co-operative and working well within the family, are you not going to do all in your power to save their feet from the cement shoes?

In my eyes the whole question of loyalty and valueness (there's a new word for folks, and no its not an Irish word, its one i made up myself:-P ) must come into play when making a decision about a family members fate. I would totally stick my neck out a lot further for a made member of our family than I would for a Wise Guy or below. That might raise a few eyebrows among folks but like I said, this is MY own personal opinion. The rank of Made Man is a special rank among us and it signifies among other things that you are now part of a 'FAMILY'. Until you achieve that status you are just a member of a 'crew'.

As far as your scenarios though, I like what Robin had to say about Scenario 1 as those thoughts and feelings pretty much match my own. I have been in situations before like you have mentioned and I feel that time after time I would do the same thing over and over, and that being, to man up and confess immediately to my Boss because at worst, my mistake could prove to be the downfall of the entire family should another family attack over my transgression.

Scenario number 2 is a little more tricky in my opinion. While I fully think that 100% honesty must exist internally within the family for it to survive and bond, if a member of our family came to me immediately and told of a mistake, Im not going to go running to another family straight away. Why put myself in the firing line like that? We are in the business of crime, its not like were children at school. Be assured that the member in question will be punished internally for breaking a rule, but as far as seeking out another family to explain the situation, Im not so sure I would readily be so willing. Should a leader from another city come to me and tell me what has happened, then at that point I would do all in my power to come to some kind of agreement about the incident.

Scenario 3 in my eyes is much the same as Scenario 2. I wouldnt necessarily hide myself away but I wouldnt exactly advertise my guilt either. If and when the guy who seen me shouts his mouth off, then I will readily admit my transgression. Im not going to make problems for myself until I have no choice in the matter.

my question is how do you accidently shoot someone?

Report Post Tip

By not paying attention to what you're doing, that's how.

Report Post Tip

Oscar, there have been many many times where I have accidently went for my gun, when instead my intention was to pick the persons pocket.

Thankfully, I think before I act and my gun is yet to accidently go off, but I can understand how some unfortunate people may find themselves in such a predicament.

Report Post Tip

Embarrassing as it is, I have had ancestors find themselves in each of these situations and I couldn't see them handling them any differently.

Concerning "Scenario 1"  I always feel and/or felt, you owe your crew leader everything.  If you accidentally fire your weapon rather hitting a target or not you owe him/her at least the courtesy of letting them know your mistake.  Sure you may be swimming with the fishes shortly there after but at least you showed the due respect to your crew leader and hopefully didn't put him/her in danger.

Now concerning "Scenario 2" I have always believed that you should go to that crew leader and see if he calls for the persons death.  As someone else said, perhaps it's a new criminal on these shores and just made an honest mistake.  At times I would prefer to have the assailant perhaps set up the victims son/daughter to make his/her arrival to these shores more comfortable.  I.E lots of money.

Now concerning Scenario 3.  I believe if a crew leader fucks up and shoots the wrong target honesty is the best policy.  My great grandfather made this mistake by shooting a 3 day old gangster on a Godfathers "Protection List"  Within minutes he knew he fucked up and fessed up to that Godfather immediately.  For his honesty he was fined a shit ton of money but at least he escaped with not only his life but the life of his fellow crew members and his city for that matter.  We've all seen at one time or another what can happen when a city tries to hide the kill of someone from a strong city.

SINGERROURKE walks in and decides to listen to the crew leader. Its not every day a crew leader comes to the streets with a good question. SINGERROURKE decides to participate he listens as everyone chimes in there thoughts. Finally SINGERROURKE steps in

Scenario One. This is not really an opinon. This is a story of what has happened in the past and what could happen again if people didnt make the right moves. A while back there was a city that was starting to build back up its organized crime. It was looking pretty powerful to. Almost impenetrable. Everyone thought that this city would destroy even the great Godfather Deimnes reign. They were wrong. One of there highly trusted members made a mistake. We all make mistakes right? Right. Well his was big. It was so big that an entire city got wiped out because he didnt take the blame of his own actions. He killed a made man in the New York crime families. The entire city fell when Godfather Deimne learned of this and that the man never confessed his actions.

Scenario one again. Once upon a time there was a great city under Jim Levenstein. He had a crew that was Of the Trabottis. Now Luigi Trabotti had a great man under him by the name of MARCO KRAY. Marco was a mafioso to the fullest. First of his bloodline to ever enter into this life of ours. He shoots and kills a made man in New York what happens to him? He admits his mistake and allows them to take his life. A true man of honor right there. He said Ladies and Gents i apologize for my screw up. I wish that you do not hold this against my city rather me. Marco Kray died that night. The next day his son took the reigns of new Right hand for Trabottis Gang. Because men who screw up and take responsibility are true men of honor and keep there city alive and prosporing.

Scenario one. There is no this way or that, its if you screw up you take responosiblity and face the consequences. I believe that with my heart.

I will not touch on scenario three so i will end with scenario two.

Scenario two. A member of yours makes a mistake? What do you do. Well because the mistake is not specified i would say it depends. Punishment is very valuable. It teaches the sons and daughters of great mafioso not to make those mistakes. Now Punishment dosent always have to equal death but a crew leader should never have to hide his members like stolen goods. His members should be able to walk in and out of a courtroom making the judge wonder why they cant get things to stick, thats how clean they should be in everyones eyes.

SINGERROURKE takes out his guitar and starts singing some songs walking down the street.

Sits at his desk, with a golden pen he writes a letter to a business partner across the nation. hearing of business booming, alcohol flowing and police busting down their doors to take that alcohol!!

Pondering the scenarios in front of him.. he had thought about them during dinner and finally made a quick memo to respond to the great New York leaders discussion

Scenario 1

Well, in this scenario it is going to depend on the bond I have with my leader if im going to admit guilt, or play the dice and hope I don't get caught. The closer the bond to the leader, the more adept I would be to let him know, and see what options we have from there (sometimes being 'friends with those in power' or Made in the family can come in handy.. I mean this is the mafia, so hell yes it helps to get known by your family structure). Its a matter of respect, no leader wants to be blindsided, just like no member wants to get shot without at least giving their side of the story.

Scenario 2

I think I answer this scenario in the above statement, mostly, except for the fact that no matter what there must be a punishment. You bring the heat on the boss, and the card topple' ya know?, it goes both ways and people must learn that one way or another. I would most likely sick Taurus on them, as he is a beast.

Scenario 3

Its all about respect, business and survival. Who did I shoot, who are they connected too and what can they do about it, and if I got caught how will it effect the city I work for? Quickly I would make those decisions, and then go buy a new holster.

Quickly puts his golden pen down, pulling open his top desk drawer and exposing a mirror, a line of cocaine, a razor and a few aspirin

Tony quickly grabs the aspirin, taking two with some water, folding the memo up to go into public to express it to the masses, then off to AA and Gamblers Anonymous, then the casino and bar with his friend Cav

With all due respect...to all you who are much OLDER and MORE EXPERIENCE...

In the first scenario, just like Sir Bruiser had said , I for one will confess my mistake to my crewleader , one of my ancestor have done a terrible mistake, probably because of her old age that she forgot to wear her spectacles or she got a hang over....she did confess her mistake , and she got the reprimand that is equivalent to the deed . With that she learned a valuable lesson that she inculcated to each of her generations. One thing to remember is that, we make mistakes one time or another, one form or another. And what REALLY MATTERS is that we LEARNED from them. And that we should not make the same mistake twice.

Report Post Tip

As I contemplated all three of the scenarios already given, I came up with a fitting answer for myself for each of them. But I wanted to challenge myself and come up with another scenario to throw into the mix. Lies and betrayal are nothing new to us and they play into each scenario that has been given and also the one that I've come up with.

You are a crew leader and the deciding factor of taking out another crew leader lies on your shoulders. It's your call to make the devastating blow to a city, it's mob boss and all of the family members that belong to that boss. You'll be putting him in the morgue in other words. The only reason you hesitate is that everything doesn't add up, but the rumors floating around that this other crew leader is plotting to take you out, you can't let that happen. At the end of the day you are responsible for the members of your own crew.

So the deed is done and a few days later behind closed doors at the funeral interesting information is passed your way. Some of the information that was given to you about the crew leader you took out was false or twisted. Looks like a few people didn't like this guy and wanted him to sleep under soil. You'd worked with this guy in the past and he had never given you any problems. That's why things didn't add up, but now you know what is really going on.

But the guilt of taking out an innocent man, well as innocent as a mob boss can be, is taking a toll on you. Do you find his next of kin and set him up with a bunch of body guards and a life of luxury? You can't make up for everything that persons father or mother had lost, but it's the lease you can do. Or do you keep your mouth shut, your guilt locked up and go about with your business like you didn't know any better?
