"Depersonalization, or Derelaliztion Disorder." The Doctor said with a calm and rather matter of fact tone. The doctor looked into Jay's eyes and could sense that Jay was having none of this. "Let me explain," The doctor continued, "Derealization Disorder is characterized by experiencing a sense of being outside of one's own body and being disconnected from reality. People, such as yourself, who have this disorder often feel a sense of unreality and an involuntary disconnect from their own memories, feelings, and consciousness." The doctor let out a long sigh. "Does this make sense, perhaps explain why you're here today?" As the doctor asked that simple question Jay recalled what had happened. He had been at home and started off feeling fine, he got out of bed, made his morning breakfast, got dressed for the day and was out the door. Business as usual. As he was making his way to the airport to leave Chicago and assist his boss in the move to Las Vegas, he spotted a man laying dead in the street. He was surrounded by bodyguards who seemed confused on what to do next. Jay looked on from the corner of a building when for no real reason whatsoever, Jay placed his briefcase on the ground, opened it slowly and pulled his Thompson from the case. He loaded a 30 round drum, racked it, and proceeded to empty it down the street at the unemployed bodyguards. He crouched in cover once the drum was spent and a few rounds hit the corner next to him as some of them returned fire. Calmly Jay loaded another drum, stood and swung around the corner to unload it as well. When the drum was spent Jay could see that he had killed at least 18 men in his two blasts. He put his Thompson back into his case and sealed it before walking over to the pile of bodies. The man that they were protecting that lay dead on the street seemed to have fallen in front of a large building. He looked around and there was not a soul to be seen. They had all ran at the sound of automatic gun fire. Jay couldn't recall feeling anything or what his thought process was, but he then walked across the street into a convenience store that had been left empty and picked up a glass bottle of wine, poured it on the floor, he then filled it with kerosene and closed the bottle with a rag on the cashier's desk. He walked back outside and stood in front of the large building. He stood there for about ten minutes just staring at the building before pulling out a Zippo lighter. He lit the rag and threw the bottle at the wall. The flames burned brightly and Jay stared before he heard sirens in the distance. He walked back the direction he came from and was well on his way to the airport when a large truck slammed it's breaks next to him and he was knocked unconscious, then he awoke here, with a doctor. The doctor raised his eyebrows as he noticed that Jay seemed to have his whits back about him. The doctor leaned in closely, removed his glasses and smiled. "You really should count yourself lucky to be in this infirmary and not dead sir." Jay looked directly into the doctor's eyes before the doctor continued to state, "The man's building that you lit on fire was that of Jack Diamond's. He certainly has shown you some mercy today by bringing you to this infirmary. Do you understand?" Jay's eyes widened as he began to realize his situation. He said nothing and gave a slow nod. |
